Ravindran-Yesudas combination produced so many HIts of all time. Like wise, M.G. Radhakrishnan- yesudas in the early 80- mid 90s. Now we can recollect those memories and live that ONLY..
There is no parallel in Carnatic - it has been adopted in Carnatic by usage of some familiar combination of notes - the closest is Tilang - Natai is not the aligned raga.
You Can hear the beauty of Karnataka Music in the Beautiful Voice of KANDHARVA GANA Shri.K.J.Yesudas. No words express my feelings.Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw
Still remember when I saw this movie in 1989-90..after the song ended there was pin drop silence in the jam packed theater for 2 minutes.. people were wonder struck.,. by the song and lalettans per formance,,
Thanks a lot for sharing you experience at the theatre..I remember the first time i watched this move and when this song ended I was sitting there, awestruck, jaw-dropped and totally unable to digest what I has just experienced!! I think no such things happen now a days as nobody creating anything magical now.Which is so sad!
@Celiabphilips exactly...jawdropping and awestruck..are the best words ..yes..that was the mood in the theater.. for some reason..filmmakers think malayalee taste has changed and so called "adipoli" songs ae being made. In fact tastes are still the same as far as melody is concerned..They only need to look at the number of hits these songs get on u tube.
In yet another story, amidst the Yamuna river, I have flowed like a mirage of the forest
Yet why I am raised through this celestial musical melody festival so unique.
Main Line again...end
As with most languages especially a high-context one, you lose a lot while literally translating into a low context language..more evident when it is an abstract poem like this.
I repost my free translation of the song... The woods are aflame With the colors of spring, again. The twilight flickers Like a flame amidst the growing shadows. In the lores of yore... I was lost, like a teardrop, in the churning waters of Sarayu.. Then I was crowned, like an emperor, in the heady flow of the poet's song. In the lores of yore... I was a fallen flower, unsung, unseen, drifting in the Yamuna... Then I was the soothing melody in the Shepherd's flute, heralding the dawn.
It is a wonderful song..evry tme I hear it, my mind drifts away...but dnt knw wr....nd all d actors hve done justice to dre part in dis clip.......nd d traditional 'kottaram' is amazing.....kudos to all dos people who wre behind dis song...SIMPLY MARVELLOUS!!!!!

Those who wanted the English translation of this song. The lyrics are simple, beautiful, and evocative, I am attempting a translation in free verse (not literal), in two parts.
Part 1
The woods are aflame
With the colors of spring, again.
The twilight flickers
Like a flame amidst the growing shadows.
In the lores of yore...
I was lost, like a teardrop, in the churning waters of Sarayu..
Then I was crowned, like an emperor,in the heady flow the poet's song. (cont'd)
Brilliant.. I'm a malayali (speak fluent malayalam), but I've never learnt malayalam literature as I didnt grow up in Kerala. Never understood a word of this song until now. Many thanks.
One more marvellous song by the god of singing, K J Yesudas: Manichitrathazhu - Pazhamtamilpatizhayum. It has English Subtitles for those who cant understand. Excellent song.
THANK YOU YANNI........ for the beautiful video from my country. What a surprise! I remain in awe!! "Music is an international language".......and that's where we stand.
With deepest respect and delight, I have subscribed to your channel.
Mohanlal's expressions could have been better, when yesudas is singing the high notes (innithaa), mohanlal seemingly sings shows singing with ease, but practically it is not that easy. Kudos to yesudas & raveendran for this fantastic song, what a great combination
I agree with your comments about Mohanlal's expressions during the high notes... But once done is done I would say it was different when these talents united in Araamthamburaan for Harimulraleeravam.
what a song. probably the best song malayalam film industry have ever produced. this from the raga JOG. what a creation from raveendran and this is sang to perfection by ganagandharvan dasettan
Definitely..Except national awards are filled with politics..I remember an interview i saw with Thilakan..He recalls that won more points than Amitabh Bacchan for the national award, but ended up losing, due to Bacchan's influence...Thilakan is one actor who deserves more than 1 national award..Ive heard that Yesudas himself backed out of the Hindi music industry due to underworld threats,
Ponnamma chechi has always been the best mother of lalettan and in the new movie MADAMBI shez a crule mother to mohanlal, would be really interesting to watch..!
@vpadmana forgive my ignorance, but is there any difference between the two? i thought they were the same- that jog was the Hindustani version of Gambheera nattai?
@aashraya1 The answer to that question is mostly "yes" especially when you compare the Classical Nattai with Classical Jog. It is as close as you can get. However, depending on the "school of thought" and rendition style you will find subtle differences. In cine songs however, music directors do flatten out gamakas for example, and even introduce an "anneya swara" (or non traditional note). These are done to appeal to a broader audience and fit with lyrics etc.
One of the greatest musical compositions ever! Superbly composed by Raveendran master and superbly rendered by Yesudas. Thank you for this for all eternity!
Raveendran master has scored for a tamil film Rasigan oru rasigai (Styaraj). There is one great song by KJY (yezhisai geethame...). I am unable to get it. There is also an equivalent number in malayalam, I hear. Will somebody post it?
Vbalakrishna is right. How can this song be sung by anybody else but KJY? Full credit for composition goes to Raveendran. Full credit for singning so beautifuuly and soulfully goes tof course to KJY.
Hard to translate. Very poetic. I'm malayali and I don't even understand most of what is being sung. But basically the song is about how he's singing a beautiful melody that comes from the heart...and he compares the melody to various things like a sunrise, a story, a raindrop, a flowing river, etc
Just about every single word of this song is loaded with meaning. If you understand even a bit, you can understand its beauty. Even without understanding the words, the music itself is very well done.
@endofdays5767 dear endofdays, it is not poetic, the lyrics is absolute stupid. It got masked by the music... Words are being arranged like matchboxes. It's not your fault that you didn't understand anything. Third rate lyrics.
A priceless composition by the late Raveendran master, composed in 'Jog' raagam! No one could have sung it better than KJY and as always beautiful lyrics by Kaithapram!
I am a Telugu guy, but KJY has proved that music is beyond language. What a song. I dont know the meaning, dont know the lyrics, but when I listen to it I can see GOD. Long live KJY.
Thanks. I found Reghu Vamshapathe and Ramakatha of Bharatham in youtube. I read somewhere that Great singer Jesudas called Raveendran Master in the midnight and said that he is ready to sing "Ramakatha" and they did the recording in one take. Great music director and a Great singer.

English translation in slightly literal sense would go something like this:
"The evergreen woods has yet again adorned a hearty melody;"-main line
It is an auspicious occasion when the lit lamp-flame's playful shadow fills within my hand;
As in some lost story, within the Sarayu river, I have become a teary dream to adorn.
And yet why am I adorned like an emperor's crown within the intoxicating songs of a poet?
