Acetone works pretty well on melting polystyrene without the heat - giving you more time to experiment - just don`t light up near it.

how do you weather the rims like that at 1:15?

this may sound kinda weird, but i used cinnamon... i covered the rim in model glue, and then sprinkled cinnamon on it...
