Don't do it kid - leave the Christians alone about the whole thing. Why be stupid and ruin a good housing deal? Oh boy. Why not drop the atheist crusade and enjoy their company? Now if you want a real challenge miss sweet and innocent, I suggest you talk to William Bell or other preterist scholars and they will set you straight about your biblical misunderstandings - you'll be fascinated and enjoy learning from them. I double dare you with a cherry on top and a side order of a caramel latte.'
Preterism is a bunk ad hoc view to save the failed prophecy of jesus christ. Don't fool yourself by the cunning rhetoric of these "scholars" trying to make a buck on their books.
Wow. I think it's great that you want to meet people with different perspectives and 'pick their brains', but I hope you are careful and keep a check of how you're feeling in the house. If you feel pressured or stifled then don't stick around there. Because if you can't be yourself at home then it's gonna get you down. I hope that the flatmates are easy to get along with and that you have a great time.
I'd be very careful in that living situation... I think you'll find yourself feeling overwhelmingly pressured, and cornered. From how you've described just one of your SEVEN roommates, it doesn't sound like you'll be surrounded by people who respect or tolerate religious views that differ from theirs. However, you have a great personality, so I'm sure you can make it work and get along... PS, If you wanna see Santa Cruz in your travels through CA, let me know!
Coming out here to Seattle, eh F&F? It's okay, if you like Limbo. Nothing poisonous, never very hot or cold, no hurricanes or tornadoes, rarely even heavy rain.
But every once in a while, just when you've let your guard down . . . BAM! Volcano! Earthquake! Zombies!
What a cool adventure. I wanna go, too!?!? I don't know how a get along with that many christians... then again, since most of the christian bible is the Jewish bible, I suppose I'm "mostly christian," as well. Have fun. It should be a bomb [which would mean something totally different if they were "mostly muslim."
Sounds like you're gonna be living with some interesting people. As the complete egocentric I am, I'm of course looking forward to that situation spawning some interesting videos ;o)
Ah, I can't wait to see videos about your experiences in the "mostly Christian" house. As an atheist with predominantly Christian friends, I know how interesting and exciting it can be to expand someone's horizons... even if you just end up being a Christian's token atheist friend.
Oh, and when they start giving you the Christian sales pitches... stay strong! Keep your BS-detection kit handy at all times!
Moving is always well a strange time but remember home is where your heart lays.
Moving into a house with others, not bad I like being around others myself. The idea to life all just alone...*shakes head*
Good Luck wished and lets hope no troubles come to you. Oh and don't worry about that Christian issue, I mean really many Christians are great persons. And many do see how contradictory things can seem.
So it occurs to me... is it possible YOU are hoping to be the one to change? I know you're an atheist, but you are also so right in there pushing for feedback. I wonder if you are hoping to find some substance or truth to religion. Otherwise why bother, unless you are a glutton for punishment. You KNOW you won't win any comverts, right?
Tolerance is a virtue, you know. If you want people to respect you as an atheist, you have to respect their views as gnostics. (I'm Atheist/Agnostic, btw... I'm also xeno from twitter).
If you end up in Orange County CA, send me a direct message on Twitter and I'll show you around if you want.
Hey, hope the move goes well, etc. I moved to seattle a year ago. Seattle's really nice, the people are really friendly. Check out some of the freethinker/atheist groups around town. We're small, but growing. I've been going to some on the East side (east of lake washington) occasionally.
They sound like nice guys but just to be safe you probably shouldn't drink the Kool-Aid. You might want to check out some of the missions on your way through California (San Antonio de Padua is remote but particularly worth seeing).
Good luck. Theists can be a . . . interesting bunch with the way they think about things. If I were you'd I'd wait until they asked before saying anything. Of course, you shouldn't have to . . . but that's the way this country is unfortunately. Good luck, and send us all out some coffee.
Actually my friend at my college lives back in Salt Lake City.
I don't mind liberals, I feel much less comfortable around conservatives. Plus the Chicago music scene is really getting bigger and I know a few people involved in it.
Winston Churchill said: "At twenty if you're not a liberal you have no heart, by fourty if you're not a consevative you have no brain." So by my count I'll give you another 15 or so years and you'll hate liberals too.
Are you jocking this Frisbeesandflipflops broad? I thought brainpolice called her first.
Do you mean "gay" as in the way the kids use it today to mean just silly not worth anyone's time or actually physically gay?
But since were away from the lights of main channel and the trolls there's something I've been meaning to discuss with you. I don't know if you were screwing around with that "I wish I was gay" stuff but if you were curious you wouldn't put out to that Cap'nSalty guy would you? That guy has gay sex-predator written all over him. He...
seems like he'd be a real bruiser type and you wouldn't want to have your first experience with a dude like that. It might scar you for life.
But if you are curious, and mind you I'm not gay myself and I've been accused of being the biggest Stodles sycophant and cheerleader on the planet, but even the worst Stodles critic would have to admit he'd be a sensitive gay lover. I mean Jackdoodle or whoever hates Stodles if you asked him he'd have to begrudgingly admit, 'yeah for a first time, you..
..really couldn't ask for a better gay lover. Sure his politics and world-view is messed up but I have to admit he'd probably break a fella in real nice and slow like, maybe buy you a nice guy-gift the next day, nothin' to make you feel like you've lost your masculinity in one fell swoop...'
But this CaptainSalty guy, you don't want any of that at all--and mind you I'm not gay or anything myself--not that there's anything wrong with it. What 2 people do in private...who am I to judge, etc.
whoa, CULT HOUSE!!! Seriously though, be careful. A bolt on your bedroom door would be a good idea if there isn't one already, just to keep the proselytizers out!
Good luck and have fun. BTW the weather in Seattle isn't that bad. I guess it depends on what you compare it to. I'm from Michigan and I'm overjoyed that it seldom snows and the temperature rarely gets below freezing.
Your a brave woman moving in with a bunch of people you don't know. You will love Seattle, its a fantastic city. I live in eastern Wash. but go to the Emerald City often. Have Fun.
Girl, I love how you enjoy walking into the lion's den.
Seattle was one of my favorate places I have lived. And I've lived in quite a few. There are a lot of good jobs if you are tech savy, so you shouldn't have much of a problem. It can be expensive though but I'm sure you are used to that.
While you are there, I bestow upon you a quest. It is a simple one but rewarding: Visit the Aurora Troll (note: it's under a bridge, but not under the Aurora bridge) ;) Also, hike Mount Rainer!
