very, very informative video! Though, the slightly more left wing fundamentalists would say he's paid, or an Indian in disguise. All he is saying are basically insults to Pakistan, but they all seem to fit in place of history.
where pakistan is but an eventuality.if u trace back their nation building, u could it literally put ur finger down to where they are.its the only logical possibility.
100 % i agree with you. We have lowest literacy rate, no energy source, in short we have no leadership. But don’t miss the opportunity of leg pulling. We interfere in India, Afghanistan, Israel, and Bangladesh … but we expect peace form other. And crying for piece..
@TheAbidkhan sorry bud, but Pakistan is in huge debt with large number of illiterate Fundamentalist and may endanger sovernity and congruinity of India. India merging with Pakistan will be decline of India as well because of prejudices of Fundamentalists.
lol... the thing i dont understand...so basically the army is the elite force in pakistan... welll someone give me an example in the civil government who has the eligibility to guide the path of the country... u guyz basically wnat the king of corruption to lead the country.. is tht what ur telling ur viewers... everyone knows how much influence america has on the elections in pakistan... so u want zardari... to decide for pakistan..
@Aliwali14 : I'm sorry, but isn't your army corrupt too, while also being heinously cruel and adept at snuffing your civil rights? Have you forgotten Zia-ul-Haq already? I acknowledge that Zardari's hands are dirty funneling money account and the average Pakistani is disgusted with him, but you must stamp him out using ONLY your civilian right to universal suffrage. You need to let democratically elected govts. complete their terms and let democracy flow in society.
Ahmed Rashid is one of the few Pakistanis who talk truth and knows the facts about pakistan. He clearly does not follow the delusional pakistani armies Mad-rasa education where Facts are hid and only False Glorifications are taught even though defeat after defeat, Bankruptcy, Failed State Status, perpetual Civil Wars, Epitome of Terrorism etc!
@ALANSARALHAQ yes, send hassan nisar, pervez hoobdoobey, nijam sethi, and all thinking brains to India and you may take all of fundamentalist from India.
I really hope Democracy prevails in Pakistan and we Indians, I think, have enough love left for our Pakistani brothers to open our gates to commerce and cultural ties with them when the mutual trust is regained.
well i dont know respected speakers background, but if i am not wrong then founding fathers of pakistan r muhammad allama iqbal and muhammad ali jinnah.......and correct me if i m wrong they never wanted british or so called modern democracy in pakistan if some one is sayin this than either he dont know allama iqbal n jinnah or either r blind.........basis of iqbals whole poetry is raisin a muslim state which would lead the muslim followin islamic econmical, political and social system.
The thing is, you can either have a military controlled regime or a democratic one. Not both. Democracy takes a while to set in, that is the period of 'unrest'. Its easy to get disillusioned, but the end result is always better. What was Pakistan really meant to be? Definitely not what it is becoming.
Pakistan Army is serving self-interest and nothing else.
Pakistan is a poor country and most of the money in Pakistan is spent on Military upkeep. Pakistan Army is the biggest danger to the prosperity of Pakistan.
Pakistan is a poor country cuz of other countries involvement in Pakistan... and you know the reasons of involvement... they know that if we are developed we gonna rule the world as we have done before
being in pakistan and as a pakistani i knew the facts much better then mr ahmed.
in pakistan army is behind every major institution and project. for example the 2nd best university of pakistan ehich is internationaly recognizaed is NUST and its under army.
and its fir everyone, civilians can get admission in it on basis of merit.
Dear hassan, i think Ahmad is more Pakistani than you. By the way, does Ahmad need pakistani certificate from you? I dont think so.I am also pakistani and Ahmad is very true. We just cannot handle critisims and specially agaist militry the holy cow
@RanaQuetta I don't mean to be provocative or sound like a person professing an ideology in any way. All I want to say is its good to find rational Pakistanis like you on youtube.
I hope you guys take your country to glory and be friends with us (INDIA/US).
I am an Indian kk its f9 its ur army.U love it and u should love it.But dont u think democracy can solve problem better than army?army is to protect borders not to rule inside country.Agree ?
you are right and our army is doing the same... there are some black sheep but you cant blame the whole army... Like now our army got alot ov reasons to impose marshal law but they are not cuz they want democracy
@hassansardarshan.. All other democratic nations with globally rated universities and institutions do not rely on their army for such basic functions. In Pak, the army makes sure that most significant funding in billions comes solely to it - any minor/major development will have to come from there - this does not justify army's inordinate economic control/power.
If people keep believing that without the army, India would destroy Pak, you will only see how your country/army does it on their own
He must be pathetic patsy if the US does not hate him like Dr A Q Khan. He is a fool like Hamza Alavi. Hamza Alavi wrote a chapter in a key book "Ideologies and ... in Pakistan." which gave account of our splits to the enemy. Another such professor at BU is Hussain Haqqani. I write this to clarify the distortion of our values by such selfish people in a "competitive" rise by trampling, zero-sum society of ours who are total loss to our civilization.
the problem in kashmir has to do with islam. Once islam is banned peace will come back to kashmir and also all over the world. I am open for your discussion. let me know your views.
i would just like to say that if you think that Islam is the problem for peace then soon there will be civil war in whole world because Islam is the fastest growing religion of the world... moreover i would suggest you that you sould study Islam... i admit that there are some muslims who are creating problems but you cant blame a car because of its driver...
@good1976 , bs, kashmir has to do with water irrigations supremacy over pakistan. india is tryin to have upper hand over pakistan. religion has nothing to do with any conflict of the world wars. its all human beings acting like animals. for greed, wealth, power, etc.
@good1976 : thaz the sliest idea ive heard in a long long time.islam is not a pakistani monopoly.if anything,it belongs to india more than any other country in the region.we need to embrace indian islam and wax india's identity out of the philosophy too. pakistan is a fucked up state.if they were a hindu state, theyl still be the same.
@good1976 I completely agree. The problem is the political use of religious Islam.Everwhere from Chechenya to Xinjiang to Kashmir, whereever muslims have problem ,the issue becomes Muslims vs Non Muslims.
@good1976 What? Ban islam, how can you do that without massacring and terrorizing muslims because muslim don't take shit from non - muslims that threaten islam. Instead you can ban Foreigners to end wars in muslim homelands.
I think you should consult Hadith to know if army rule is recommended by our Holy Prophet SAAW. Allah's Apostle SAAW said, there will be Khilafah after me, then Monarchy, then military rule and then Khilafah again on the footsteps of Nubuwwa ... so the Khilafah is the preferred regime.
In fact, listening to Mr. Rashid, it appears that US is simply incapable of nation building given the structural reorganizations of its relevant departments such as USIS and USAID after the collapse of the Soviet Union. This is sad considering the critical role played by the US in reconstruction of post-war Europe and Japan. It is also a serious strategic weakness on part of the US as most conflicts in the 21st century are likely to require a healthy dose of nation building.
@KashifHKhan 100 % i agree with you. We have lowest literacy rate, no energy source, in short we have no leadership. But don’t miss the opportunity of leg pulling. We interfere in India, Afghanistan, Israel, and Bangladesh … but we expect peace form other. And crying for piece..
@KashifHKhan Hahahaha ...Nation building ? Hay man Japanese built thier own nation ....europeons already had thiers and post war they did it on their own.......So you guys have been waiting for America to build your country.............Hahahahaha
It is also worth noting the massive strategic blunders of the US in Afghanistan. (It proves - if ever proof was needed - that even superpower status is no protection against fallibility!) America did not foresee the consequences of using radical Islam to fight proxy war or of abandoning Afghanistan after Soviet withdrawl. It failed to appreciate the threat posed by Taliban to Karzai government or the necessity of undertaking agricultural reconstruction to revive Afghan economy.
As Mr. Rashid points out, it is extremely ironic that a country whose founders were secular Muslims, risks becoming a theocratic state. In fact, if there is a social breakdown - a reasonable supposition given lack of nationalism, weak state institutions, sinking economy, and state bankruptcy - Pakistan will become a theocratic failed state. That would have catastrophic consequences for regional and world security. No wonder India views Pak as future "Somalia of South Asia".
Military control over the country has not only arrested its economic development, army's anti-India defense policies have created serious social and diplomatic issues. The nurturing and backing of Taliban in Afghanistan - shockingly, even after 9/11 - to gain "strategic depth" against India as well as to fight proxy wards in Kashmir, is fueling "Talibanization" of the country. Diplomatically, Pak has to fight charges of exporting terrorism and risks becoming a pariah state.
"All countries have an army. In Pakistan, the army has a country", says Mr. Rahid. I couldn't agree more! The Pak Army maintains absolute control over the country's foreign policy and has been steadily increasing its influence over the civilian society. As a result, urgent needs of the country's masses - such as education, health-care, transportation, employment, energy, etc - have been (and are being) consistently ignored in favor of national defense considerations.
bear in mind, the Kashmir issue also has a dimension of control of rivers. all rivers flow from kashmir to pakistan. before, we had SIX rivers flowing in, before India started building dams on three of them...and eventually the Indus Basin Water Treaty made India cut off three (Ravi Sutlej Beas) completely....this was back in the early 1960s. the fear of losing water prompted pakistan to make kashmir an issue because india could and is doing it again with Baglihar dam etc
a sensible man with sensible views...
