  • That is scary and lethal, it looks so cool too. I wish I could do mine that good!

  • lol

  • The infamous corkscrew RPB loop that makes the opponent think it's topspin but really it's a deadball, causing them to put the ball in the net.

  • lol

  • it is actually pure sidespin with no topspin, it is not deadball

  • No it's corkscrew + sidespin. That's why I called it the infamous CORKSCREW RPB loop.

  • but how can it be a deadball if there is so much spin, i am not trying to prove you wrong i just know that it is pure sidespin with sometimes a little backspin depending on what angle you do it, many good chinese players have learned it after they see ma lin do it and now they all know it

  • that makes 7 idiots. it's not dead. it's mostly sidespin. corkscrew = topsin + sidespin. and whoever determined that's what it was anyway just likes to aggrandize their description. you say corkscrew to any pro player and they'll think "you're retarded, learn to play". topspin shots all have sidespin first of all. then depending on the angle of the rotation and direction, the return has to compensate. that was a very normal rpb and not hard to do if you're a decent player.

  • The Chinese national team coaches published an article on Ma Lin's corkscrew RPB ... They stated he was brushing UNDERNEATH the ball to produce a corkscrew effect. While there is a lot of spin in the corkscrew direction, opponents trying to hit it back thinking topspin will feel a dead ball in that direction.

The training partner put both of the corkscrew RPBs in the net.

  • To correctly understand why the opponent feels a deadball even though there is massive rotation on the ball, you need think of spin in 3-dimensions, after all we're not playing with 2-d cutouts, we're playing with a spherical ball.

Put your hand flat on the table, Turn it back and forth, We'll call that the x-axis, which is sidespin. If you receive the ball, the ball's spin will bite the rubber and go sideways.

  • Put your hand pointing towards the monitor with the thumb on top, pinky on bottom. Move your arm up and down, this is symbolizing the y-axis. Topspin and backspin. If it bites the rubber facing perpendicular, the ball with either go up or down.

So what is corkscrew? Where is this z-axis? Turn your hand 90 degrees to the left so your pinky is on bottom still and your thumb on top as well. Now it should be facing left. Move it back and forth while moving your hand towards the monitor.

  • The last point as well, Lee Jung Woo puts it in the net. So want to refresh your statement about corkscrew = topspin + sidespin?

  • @jkillashark thats no lee jung woo

  • @haydonlee93 Oops. This was a while ago, I meant in the WTTC 2006 : Ma Lin vs Lee Jung Woo video.

Watch at 4:35 and you'll see the Corkscrew RPB loop that LJW puts into the net.

  • @jkillashark I saw Ma Lin use the very same trick against Joo in a Killer-spin Invitational. It took Joo by total surprise, and it awed me.

  • @17teacmrocks Shut up and stop talking shit.....

  • wtf malin was cold i think, he normally trains with no shirt :D

  • lol
