Just found myself listening to a whole bunch of these, and I found yours to be one of the best performed. Despite your shying away from the little trills and fills. From the two you included, it sounds like you were a little unsure of them, maybe lacking a little confidence? See next comment:
My trick for strengthening that kind of muscle memory and confidence;
- "mash" lower end of keyboard with left hand (random groups of notes, random intervals), for a little while. Keep doing this until your left hand is very much doing its own thing.
- single-finger peck something out with your right hand. Doesn't have to be tuneful .
Repeat until you get a decent amount of right/left independence.
- Keep going but at random points, play the trill/roll while still mashing.
@kfsone You're absolutely right at the time trills were not the most confidence. Though in the last year I've been playing a lot of French pieces and now those trills and fills are second nature.
@surferartchick Awesome :) Give the mashing technique a try next time you're learning a piece, you'll be amazed at how it liberates your movements; I picked it up from an old jazz/blues pianist. It works either way around too, I found it allowed me to play crazy bass-riffs that some of my much more skilled friends had to sequence :) (e.g. tubular bells :)
I guess it depends, I played an instrument since I was 8 so it was a little easier for me. It helps if you already know notes. But if you have a good teacher, yes it is well worth it! It's hard at times but you just push through it.
Plus it helps if you start with playing in a style you like.
*taps chin* online lessons huh? I'll think about it. :)
Nice! ;)

Do this for about 10-15 minutes. Or until you find you get less right/left independent while "pecking".
Then stop, and play just the trills. Pause. Play a few notes or chords from something else. Then repeat the trill. 2-3 times.
THEN STOP PLAYING THE SOURCE TUNE. Play something completely of a completely different style/tone, and take a break.
After a few days, you can muscle-memorize pretty complex riffs/rolls/trills etc.

Do you take lessons? I thinking about it, so I thought I'd ask you how hard is it to pick up if you're older than 25?
Maybe you could do a few on line lessons? :-)
peace.
