On Iran, it is clear what obama was saying, he was not contradicting himself.

He was saying Iran is NOT a global threat. However he does recognize it as a regional threat- to the American forces in the Mid-East, and American forces their.

Still, as Obama highlighted, the threat Iran poses is exaggerated.

He stated that the troop surge would NOT SOLVE the secretarian violence. He NEVER said the troop surge would not result in a reduction of the violence.

For example, he never said Iran wasn't a "threat". He did say it isn't a "serious" threat..and really, the US is far mightier then Iran so this POV is rather reasonable. In the simplest terms, Obama was saying that Iran wasn't is to its forces and allies overseas such as Israel. Statements downplaying the threat Iran poses were factually correct(ie. spends 1/100 of US military expenditure)- he was rebuking those who see Iran as dangerous as the USSR.

Lets say a nuke mysteriously goes off in NYC. What do we do? Who do we attack (can't prove who developed the nuke or who detonated it)? Sort of a conundrum, isn't it? So...the only rational thing to do is keep nukes out of the hands of ANYONE who might be prone to use it as a terrorist weapon. Obama doesn't "get it".
