  • Robert Johnson ftw.

  • i don't see the real townshend in the acoustic guitar....perhaps did not want to interrupt clapton....sorry for the bad english

  • <3

  • Townshend is playing the guitar.

    Clapton is raping it

  • @Buchi8112 It's not rape if it's enjoyable.

  • Two masters of their art showcasing their talents!

  • Its not battleships but it is blown out of the water. poor pete, time for another vietnamese holiday.

  • I have nothing against The Who but if pete werent there this video would still sound great.

  • @damnheat2005 do you actually play guitar? If you did (& were any good) you would know this is a simple tune ,for beginner level. Clapton does blues well obviously. Pete wrote original stuff. He appears to be trying to be respectfull of Clapton's turn in playing here. Im sure Townshend knows this 3 chord, 1-4-5 progression, like many even basic pop/rock guitarists do . 'The Seeker' ,'Eyesight To The Blind' to name but 2 Who tunes using same.

  • @alvin01 Yes, I see he is being respectful.

  • @damnheat2005 It just wouldn't be as great.

  • Eric Clapton there showing pete what it means to be a natural.

  • how could any one dislike this, amazing stuff!

  • love it!! two guitar gods just jamming!! awesome sauce!!

  • 2 greats together.

  • What a great singer Eric Clapton is. Really soulful singer...

  • wish I could hear more of Townshend, his parts are fairly interesting.

  • i love Pete!

  • Clapton can move m. Townshend can devastate me. This is the difference to me.

  • Clapton is so full of himself, Pete is a class act!

  • @rjmprod @kickniko He isn't. He really isn't. He is very shy and humble. Why do you think Clapton is full of himself?

  • I think Clapton, not intentionally, had an intimidating effect on Townsend.

But then again, I've seen Clapton totally humbled by Beck in a similar manner.

  • in my perfect world these two just git into it n then behind them walks hendrix, singin n strumming, n an impromptu jam starts up for two hours. oh yeah my world is a trip.

  • man this is so boring

  • That's right Pete...just like the rest of us...you just watch and awe.

  • @homeblood3000 in awe of a 3 chord blues progression most kids could do at 15, maybe not. The guitar intro to Pinball Wizard Seems more awe inspiring. Townshend was probably being respectfull & trying to not get in the way .

  • sick

  • jizz on my fucking bluesy pants

  • it's so funny a master like Pete gazing over at Eric's chords tryin' to figure out, Shit., where should I go with this?

  • @Jimmyj405 Have you gone absolutely fucking mad? You think that one of the greatest song writers of all time, the man who was the prime mover behind Tommy and Quadrophenia, doesn't know how to play a twelve bar shuffle? My three year old niece could handle it.

I assume you're not a musical cove? Back to Justin Beiber my man.

  • @thetrueprometheus My guitar teacher plays John Schoefield's songs like Boozer, etc., but he cannot play the blues. Does that mean he sucks, too? Blues is so easy that some people cannot do it-their minds are on a different level...

  • Comment removed

  • sounds like gamblin man

  • What a shame Eric didn't swap/tag and let the lead go to pete for a while - that would have been awesome

  • @gabway5 fuck off and sit in a hole

  • eric clapton

  • Comment removed

  • In addition to reviving "Tommy," I'd like to see Pete Townshend revive that ponytail.

  • Geniales !!!!!!

  • This would have been better if Clapton had let Pete take the lead for a couple of verses. As always, Clapton trying to be the best guitarist in the room but on this occasion he was not.

  • 5 people have abnormally small penises and are pissed off about it

  • To see two Gods sitting together playing guitar is ... interesting....

  • @krusty627628: One playing and the other trying to keep up.

  • It's great that two minutes of music gets me to thinking...thanks! JT8800 in Boston.

  • Pete deserves points for some excellent accompaniment

  • @didostojev honestly do you think that robert johnson or B.B. King had a god damn shred of technique, who gives a fuck, stop complaining about the skill and listen to the music.

  • @ctex93 Johnson,B.B were extraordinarily skilled and gifted!!! They just never went to a "Music School" . the greatest players do it by feel, gut instinct, fuck music schools, fuck em. ctex93 is dead on right!!! you do not need "Music Schools" to play most of music from the U.S.A!!!!, just gut instinct, creativity and blood sweat and a lot of tears. Music schools? focus on the fucking music and not "Music School" bullshit!!!

  • @ctex93 yes they do!

  • what's the name of this song?

  • @gugaad standing around crying

  • 1:59 string and the face of clapton haha

  • Clapton blues is amazing

  • smash it already

  • @menga111 After this song, Yes !

  • This is real, yeah!

  • He envied you? because you made more money, and probably got more pussy than he did. Jazz,Blues,Pop. its all part of the ancient art of weaving. They all are interconnected, one could not survive without the other. Artistic expression(Talented) does not segregate the way society does. Getting as much pussy as you want does not matter if the pussy is black or White, rich or poor, equal opportunity pussy. Affirmative action pussy. The best players(Pop or Rock) want to be around the best Jazz,Blues

  • TWO LEGEND IN ONE ROOM...THIS IS EPIC

  • Very demanding lyrics.....

oh - and harmonies as well.

  • How lucky we are to have this tow leyends alive!!

  • Technique shmeckniuqe ... I wonder how many idiots told Jeff Beck he was playing his guitar wrong . In 09 I saw Robin Trower , Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck . Roger Daltry opened for Clapton . I can die now .

  • Eric fine as always

  • how uninteresting...

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome duo!

  • Amei! Amei! Me emocionei até!

  • With buddy guy and bb king and is good friends with them and various black guitarists so stop saying he's racist and listen to what his guitar has to say

  • Why is everyone arguing so stupidly over to great guitarists jamming together? Sure there's different complexeties but when it comes down to it it's how they play and the feel that matters, no one better, no one worse, just whose feel u like listening to more. Music is emotion, so why turn it into a political racist fight? I thought it was supposed to be free? I don't know Pete to well but alls I can say about Eric Clapton is he's an amazing guitarist, great man, plays with and is friends w

  • The who just had better music in the over all picture, can you say Quadropnenia

  • @skippymaroo Can you spell it? Dick.

  • @bigbiggedybigman Yea of course I can spell it " IT " how do you spell it "Quadropnenia " Tell me , what is the correct spelling LittledickedyDICKHEAD

  • @skippymaroo Quadrophenia. Did you even need me to google it for you. You're pathetic skippymaroo. A real bell-end.

  • Two stiles diferent of guitar player blues beautiful!

  • pete's powerslde owns this performance in the FACE

  • This song have a name? Or is an improvisation?

  • If it wasn't for Robert Johnson, Rock and Roll would not be like this.

  • @kathyuk28 Hi Kathy....I agree with you. It all started with guys like Johnson, Dixon, the Wolf etc.

And maybe they took it from somebody else. Who knows.

  • @kathyuk28 Amen Sister!!! or Brother!! Louis Armstrong as well!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @taildragger53 I was comparing Armstrong to Robert Johnson!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @taildragger53 I am not discussing whether or not he is a Racist , Clapton opened the eyes!!! I never believe that anybody is as benevolent(including myself) as they like to be. Trust the art more than the Artist!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @taildragger53 Yeah, but were human, what can you do. Listen to the music, the music brings people together, it can be very liberating. You and I having these exchanges is because of our love of the Blues. Peace

  • @taildragger53 Everything we do is political!!! Music is very liberating. I agree with you. No one including myself can be benevolent all the time. As long as the music makes your pursuit of happiness a little easier. Peace again.

  • Totally cool.In my perfect world, I would rather have Pete sing, but still very cool.

  • look how smooth Clapton is, and Townsend seems ready to break loose, but has to restrain himself - a lot of pent up tension in his motion.

  • The who and The Cream

  • Comment removed

  • Why are always people talking pure guitar technique? Like that is all that matters. What matters is if you can lay down some funky tunes, some real good music.. make some amazing songs. that get people swinin and funkin' around, that makes it impossible people not to completely flip out. That's what dictates if you are a god or not.

  • @didostojev agreed i think everyone is capable of building up great speed and technique, i can see no talent there. It's in the touch, the feel, the improvisation, the sense of rhythm and melody what makes the difference. It's good to have technique but don't relay just on it otherwise you would become Yngwie Malmsteen. I call it guitar masturbation.

  • @0live0wire0 Listen to the blues/Jazz players. Expand your horizons.

  • @stella3265 well i do

  • @0live0wire0 Cool, Peace brother

  • @stella3265 I'm a blues/rock guitarist and keyboardist and I agree. The best musicians on this earth are Jazz musicians. They can play anything, anywhere at any time & "IN" ANY TIME signature BUT if you want to have a GOOD time you find yourself a blues guitarist, it's your choice.

I met a Jazz bassist several weeks ago in hospital, he always had work, why ? Because he could play anything, any time but he envied us blues/rock guys. Why ? I'll bet you already know why.

  • @TelecasterLPGTop Pussy and money? yeah, what the fuck, it is what it is. What the fuck were you doing in the Hospital?

  • @stella3265 how about really going out there and listening to Jerry Reed?

  • @didostojev you're totaly right! It's the complete picture of talent and vibes which makes a difference....

  • @didostojev I like your comments. What I've noticed being a guitarist for like 40 years is that so many guitarists drastically overplay. The song gets lost in too much playing. Here we see Eric taking it slow and letting the song breathe. I think maybe it's because in general people want to show others what they can do.

They go overboard and want to hear others say..." Wow!! you're unvelievable."

  • @didostojev Hows this for technique? After they put their guitars down that Nice Lady interviewer took em both back stage, and blew them!

  • @didostojev I agree. "Playing guitar" is about technique, but really playing MUSIC is the whole point. these two men are sitting down with their acoustics just jamming out. By this time, both of them were both famous musicians, both excellent guitarists in their own right, but they can still appreciate the true value of music, the value of "jamming". And that's what music is all about. keep the music alive! peace!

  • Great clip. Much too short.

  • @imdoubtful Blackmore is awesome. I love his stuff with Rainbow almost as much as with Deep Purple.

  • @imdoubtful Well said. I enjoy Clapton, but also think he is way overrated. I think David Gilmour is far better than Clapton.

  • @rko815

Wouldn't say that. They just play with different styles. Sure, the differences are subtle, but nobody sounds as 'smooth' on a guitar as Clapton. Gilmour had a similar quality, but a different tone, you know. I'd put both of them on my "Top 20 in no particular order" list.

  • @imdoubtful No, the "God" was bullshit. Buddy Guy, Wes Montgomery, Albert, BB King and possibly Hendrix were God, especially Buddy Guy. Clapton was good for a white boy. Clapton should not have accepted the bullshit, hype of "God" ( Thank God, he did not) PEACE Brother!!!!

  • @stella3265

It feels so good to hear somebody mention Wes Montgomery. Most people tend to overlook jazz music, and I consider that an attrocity.

  • @mussman717word Yeah, he had a huge influence on the popular players. Charlie Christian as well. Most younger guys are not aware of the direct influence the Jazz and Blues players had on Rock, or popular music. Without the Jazz/blues players there is no Rock.

  • @taildragger53 Hey, whats up? E.C was not playing mainstream pop when he played with Mayall and then Bruce and Baker. Later on he became more mainstream, especially in the 80s. I believe that at the core of his playing is the Chicago Blues, Mississippi delta, New Orleans, Memphis and Nashville. At heart, he will always be one of the foremost exponents of the Blues. Peace Brother!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @taildragger53 Amen!!! In the U.K he was considered a Bluesman, but in the U.S he was an exponent of the Blues. I totally agree with you. don't forget Buddy Guy and Wes Montgomery. One thing to think about, Clapton as well as many other British players came to America and re-imported the Blues back to America, as a result many of the best British players opened the eyes to white America to the Blues, because of that it put more bread on the table for the likes of Muddy,Wolf, John lee, Buddy.

  • @imdoubtful i never said that you were not aware!!! glad that you are aware!!!! Clapton always down played the "God" bullshit, which he thought was bullshit, in turn, I always thought was bullshit. Bye

  • @imdoubtful Pete was not bored, just a little uncomfortable playing with clapton in a impromptu performance. i know this because pete said so in a interview!!!! FYI the blues is what popular music is based on, in the last 100-150 years. without the blues, none of this would exists.

  • Clapt oot Clapton did get very lazy though and has to be said. He should hav e hung his guitars on the hangers at least 20 years ago.

  • sensational .............bravo

  • Guys guys guys, quit it with the Yngwie comments already.

He has had his bad moments over his career, but who hasn't?..

Let's try ti focus on the video yea?

  • Nah....

  • Cool, do you have the whole interview?

  • Ahah I always like his "thank you" :p such class :b

  • yeah i agree who the fuck is malst........whatever....yknow clapton townshend,page...say no more

  • @MultiShades ..was just thinking the same of Clapton.

  • Comment removed

  • @MultiShades yea right, petesend is better than clapton any day you dweeb

  • @MultiShades I think Pete Townshend sucks,,only me -no need to have a mess--you win

  • @MultiShades @MultiShades I listened to & played along with Clapton records long before i listened to The Who. The 'intro' chords to Pinball Wizard are put together quite well, its not derivative music, its pure theatre. I have no idea if Townshend "wanted everything so much" or not , or wot "everything" refers to, but glad he was ambitious, he had vision, he was original & the 60's didnt only offer us blues players. Nothing wrong with what Clapton does.

  • Yeah. Malmsteen sucks. You guys are all guitar gods and totally blow his lame ass away. Fucking awesome.

  • so clapton is like a guitar god and townshend is a guitar demigod

  • where the f...s ur book pete?

    adour u eric!

  • Great video. I stumbled on to it while watching Eric Clapton on the Johnny Cash Show with Carl Perkins. Pete was a close friend in helping Eric recover.

  • Eric's just a different class. Don't need any fancy gimmicks besides his old guitar friend. So relaxed but right on the money.

  • @BJrok yeah,if you like the blues that is. Give me Townshend's writing anyday.

  • the interviewer is gettin real hot

  • who the fuk is malmsteen???......do`nt tell me he plays a million notes a swcond but has never come up with a tune in his life.........genius is creating somethinng tangible from nothing,so say hello to eric

  • As talented as Ynwie Malmsteen may be, I'd much rather listen to these 2 old geezers playing old blues songs. Yeah he's amazingly fast, but his ego is bigger than David Lee Roth and Ozzy Osbourne put together.

  • Enough of the “who’s better than whom.” It doesn’t matter in the long run. Let’s talk about this seemingly simpler performance. Clapton is doing the Robert Johnson lead that he’s done time and again over the years. It is Townshend’s backing performance that is interesting in my mind. He’s doing for Clapton what the Ox did for him for over 30 years; playing both the bass line and rhythm fills. It’s so integral to what they are doing that you only miss it when it’s gone . . . like the Ox.

  • There people with soul and heart like Clapton, and wankers like Malmsteen who see music as a kind of competition...An idiot who has nothing to say but use sooooo many scales to prove it!

  • @221961LIO Agreed!! Comparing Yngwie to Townshend/Clapton is apples/oranges nonsense. Completely different skill sets. Yngwie can't write an infectious tune to save his life (he's been at it better part of 30 yrs would have done it by now) and neither could Clapton play most of Yngwie's passages. Personally, I'd much prefer to have Townshend's compositional skills as there seem to be thousands of shredders, speed freaks and technique junkies but only precious few who compose classic rock songs

  • @ritter89 Clapton could easily play "Mr.Cheese" "Yngwie" passages. Yngwie sucks!!! sorry.

  • About Malmsteen, exactly...where is he now?

  • very nice bro

  • Clapton = God

  • @Guitarstring187 what?

  • @bennyhaist tape

  • They both use to play Fender Sratatocasters at the time, like Hendrix did. I wonder what guitar my hero Brian James playd?

  • Standing Around Crying - Muddy Waters

I love the version of Clapton and Waters in 1978

  • Awesome beards.

  • 1:59

Eric to Pete : Oh that fucking string!

  • A lesser person would have crawled in a hole and died, not ERIC CLAPTON. he came out and performed with complete awesomeness!!!!!! 110 % GO CLAPTON!

  • WOW, Two Legends

  • WOW

  • Beautiful.

  • exellentissime mr Clapton

  • @guitarcapo Please point us to a video demonstrating your "acoustic improvised jam" superiority to these 'old pentatonic hippies'. Looking forward to it!

  • @devabarry

Seriously you can hear this quality of music at any bar these days.

If you go into any mega guitar store you'll hear dozens of middle aged guys wanking these same riffs out. Because it's easy music to play. Check out all the Youtube demos of equipment. Pentatonic minor scales. It ain't exactly Django Reinhardt. or Segovia. Just more dumbing down of music for the masses. Hip hop/rap/techno whatever and sampling is the further extension of this pop phenomenon in music.

  • @guitarcapo blues is simple in its form.. but not easy to do well.. very few master its art.. just like most the Beatles songs are very simple.. try writing one.
