Anyone know anything about who made this video? The images superimposed inside the static are really moving. I always applaud people who can take a shoestring budget (which I'm sure this video had) and do cool things with it. Always loved this band and still do, they had the balls to explore concept records without being to highbrow or precious about it or taking it into the cheese zone.
Absolutely brilliant band. Piggy was a truly unique musician. I am happy that the band will carry on. I feel Dan will be able continue where Piggy left off!!
This entire album was so important to me. Living in Brooklyn NY, only white girl for miles, I lived in my headphones. That means I lived with tapes and Voivod - Dimension Hatross was played constantly. I miss those days and I still love this band. RIP Piggy.
@BridgetC This album was hugely important to me when it came out and I listened to it through crazy & tough times, so I get where you're coming from a bit, I think. Voivod will always be my favorite metal band. Cheers.
@Axxisss thats too bad because once you give it a chance for a little while, you cant live without it. I was like you, I especially didn't like the verse, but once i listened to the album as a whole and read the concept of the album, i seemed that every song needed to be as it was. Voivod is very smart that way. If you are a metal fan, then give this a chance; not just this song, but the whole album. But everyone has their own opinion.
I love everything voivod ever did! old stuff, new stuff, videos. The thing about voivod songs is kinda like king diamond. You have to absorb it and then you cant stop listening to it! I love this video because it reminds me of what all the songs remind me of. A beautiful euphoria, which is what this video looks like. A euphoria like on the cover of dimension hatross.
@grahamccollins what do you mean for a change, Metallica is perfection, it's hard to get better than Metallicas first 4 albums. He left because he couldn't play with other groups whilst being in Metallica, so he left and made Metallica better by doing it.
Honestly to me Voivod has never done anything even slightly terrible I own Angel Rat, Negatron, Phobos, Voivod, Katorz, Infini and both of there DVD'S and nothing on any of those is even below average most bands wish they could write songs half as well
@Eidolon234 Your first point is correct. Also i have to agree that dime inspired some kids to play and that they ended up so bad.But those werent inspired only by dime.I have seen guys who listen to numetal mentioning the big 4 as great artists, which i find sad since you can't listen to slipknot and then thrash but anyway what i mean is that dime was a great guitarist and that i dont want to see him being bashed in voivod vids the way kirk is in megadeth vids!it's just sad!thank you for your time

@rebusd they were done on a Commodore Amiga, don't know for the software though. One of my my friends is Snake's nephew and he told me all sorts of crazy stuff about his uncle's band, like the delirious parties during the tour with Metallica in the 80's and how the whole band would all of the sudden crash at his place when he was a young teenager, "Hello sis! Got something to drink??". Pretty cool, i'm just 2 degrees from one of my all time fave, heïl Voïvod!!
VOIVOD RULES! It is most excellent that they have decided to continue without Piggy. It is what Piggy would have wanted I am sure. But it really must have taken a lot of thought before they made that decision. A very heavy decision it is to make, such a thing. KUDOS you guys, and next time I see you, Snaky, I promise not to embarass you with fat joints in front of your girlfriend on the second floor of Foufs
Voivod All the time writes good music, in the thrash and in the progresive, they're great musicans, they found their sound in progresive and not in the thrash, but i think this a realy good band and this voice sound like Mustaine lol

Well, I'm not about to have an argument with someone on you tube. I only comment on stuff i like, not stuff i don't. As far as ME being ignorant, I study classical and jazz at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and I have much appreciation for many styles of music from all parts of the world, musicians of all of races. As much as you want me to say something mean to you, I'm not. You are entitled to your opinion 100%. Have a nice day.
@krysylys It seems to me like they are trying to hard to write off the wall complex stuff, but it just ends up being a bit too messy, i've listened to a few of their albums but just couldn't quite get into them, the singer does not help at all, lets be honest here, by the way, i'm not saying the bad suck, i'm just saying i personally don't believe they very good, i see they have a loyal fanbase.
@slantyrock I understand your personal taste. That's fine. But I would never waste my energy criticising music I don't like. I either like it, or I don't. I'm "into" music. Clearly, so are you. Don't try to analyse. Just listen. You may be surprised. For example, it took me a while to realise that I liked Frank Zappa. Writing "off the wall, complex stuff" in the "Metal" genre had not been done before in the way Voivod did it. It's OK if you don't like Voivod. You don't have to.
Though these guys don't mix in a bunch of obscure genres like Mike Patton, I would say these guys are one of the first avant-garde metal bands along with celtic frost. Their time signatures and drum patterns are so unusual. The guitar and bass grooves are so weird with so many chords not found in heavy metal, even though it's technically prog metal. Anyone agree?
" 2:10 I'm the 3 Pygmees from the Hatross dimension in the back of Piggy doing his solo. (for real). I was also the Director's assistant during the whole production of the clip. Unforgettable moments.
I can't truthfully answer this as I'm only familiar with the very early albums of these shitty bands you mentioned. Guns N Roses I never listened to but that's not even Metal so it's irrelevant.
However Metallica's "Kill 'Em All" or "No Life til Leather" as great as they are still don't come close to VoiVod's Dimension Hatross. Crue's first 2 albums (the only ones worth checking) aren't even comparable.
If you ever had the opportunity of listening to the album Dimension Hatross, from start to finish, with the lyrics, then perhaps that might change your opinion. I'll admit that the video is stupid, low-budget, poor quality, and so on, but the marketing of this kind of music was very limited at that time(1988), There was no internet back then, and save for a few magazines, there was virtually no other way for this band to reach their fans, plus the rash decision making of the record companies.
you scared me their for a second Synster gates is very very by the books and boring. While piggy wrote his own book with well I don't what he wrote it with but it kicks ass and I believe Piggy helped a close- minded dude realize you don't have to shred a million notes to be a great guitar player
Yeah, listen to King Crimson, Van Der Graaf Genertaor and Bauhaus, this is who Voivod said they were influenced by... Especially the King Crimson stuff, you would love the "Red" album.
Gentle Giant are incredible (esp, "Power And The Glory album), but would sadly alienate most Voivod listeners because they aren't "metal enough". I still think anyone who likes Voivod or Primus should listen to GG...
One of my all time faves! Saw them live several times. Hung out with Away when they played with Soundgarden @ Numbers in Houston. Only time in my life that my high school French ever did me any good! One of the greatest thrash bands ever!
Why the fuck couldn't i be born when this awesome 1 of a kind band was around and in their prime. Instead I'm from an era where everyone likes Devil Wears Prada. Jesus this generation of people suck
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
for your consoliation...I am from that era and saw all these bands...love em to death...but you know there is always a generation to be missed...wish I saw Led Zepp...but nowadays I equally get excited about Devil Wears Prada...its new blood and things evolve...still Voivod rules
yes i play guitar people tell me to sound like this and that yet i think people forget to try something that sounds different. I hope to end this piece of shit "Metal scene" in my hometown
The 80's and the 90's had their own, very distinct evolution of underground heavy metal. Unfortunately this decade has done nothing but recap what happened over the last two decades, and as you pointed out, without it's own spirit.
same here, 19 but i dont even care about newer groups, i do listen to good old trash metal hard rock, especially megadeth and guns n roses! LONG LIVE TO VOIVODDDD im going to see them next saturday 12!
Man I haven't listening to them in years. And it's still as good today as it was back in the day. They truly are pioneers of prog-metal. Thanks for posting this stuff guys!!!
Fuck, that must have been sweet! Miss the stone. I saw them with Testament(?) at the warfield. Alot of the crowd looked like they didn't know what to make of these guys.
unique sound ,unique band this is one the best metal album ever made !!it s to be heard to be beleive ,it s right in the face!!at the time i ll dream that a band like that exist !
Insane science fiction rhythm guitar. This along with Overreaction, Tornado, KT, Brain Scan, Ravenous Medicine, Forgotten In Space, and Order Of The Blackguards!
Oh yeah.Away was always mentioning them in interviews. I listened to a radio interview at the time of Nothingface's release, and Piggy and Away were talking about favorites like King Crimson, Soft Machine, Pink Floyd and Van Der Graaf.Wonder if that's on a torrent somewhere.
its such an honor to know that there are crazy fuck out there who can love an album like dimension hatross ,i thought i was the only one in the world who loved that album to death.
I have found a new addiction.

Amebixfan 2 years ago 2
Gentle Giant are incredible (esp, "Power And The Glory album), but would sadly alienate most Voivod listeners because they aren't "metal enough". I still think anyone who likes Voivod or Primus should listen to GG...

One of my all time faves! Saw them live several times. Hung out with Away when they played with Soundgarden @ Numbers in Houston. Only time in my life that my high school French ever did me any good! One of the greatest thrash bands ever!

No one will ever be like them.

Why the fuck couldn't i be born when this awesome 1 of a kind band was around and in their prime. Instead I'm from an era where everyone likes Devil Wears Prada. Jesus this generation of people suck

for your consoliation...I am from that era and saw all these bands...love em to death...but you know there is always a generation to be missed...wish I saw Led Zepp...but nowadays I equally get excited about Devil Wears Prada...its new blood and things evolve...still Voivod rules

This times that we are living don't have their own spirit, did anyone notice that?
Yarpenn 2 years ago 5
yes i play guitar people tell me to sound like this and that yet i think people forget to try something that sounds different. I hope to end this piece of shit "Metal scene" in my hometown
mikeman117933 2 years ago 2
The 80's and the 90's had their own, very distinct evolution of underground heavy metal. Unfortunately this decade has done nothing but recap what happened over the last two decades, and as you pointed out, without it's own spirit.

Damn straight man Im 18 but feel closer to music back in the 80's and 90's.
mikeman117933 2 years ago 3
That's because you have taste!

Metal sucks nowadays, so I guess it's all their fault.
sirroxalot 2 years ago
Voivod were real avant-garde metal pioneers!
Thanks for the vid!
They used chord sequences you would more commonly find on King Crimson/Robert Fripp records, and doesn't it just sound cool?
Voivod made Industrial Metal of their own invention. Totally unique.
Viva Voivod!

Fuck, that must have been sweet! Miss the stone. I saw them with Testament(?) at the warfield. Alot of the crowd looked like they didn't know what to make of these guys.

Any band, with a drummer who lists Van Der Graaf Generator as one of his heroes, are cool with me.
swans1997 3 years ago
fan of Van der graaf too...didnt know the drummer was a fan too hehehe
insektuo 3 years ago
Oh yeah.Away was always mentioning them in interviews. I listened to a radio interview at the time of Nothingface's release, and Piggy and Away were talking about favorites like King Crimson, Soft Machine, Pink Floyd and Van Der Graaf.Wonder if that's on a torrent somewhere.
swans1997 3 years ago 2
Dimension Hatross is my fave VoiVod album of all time. Got to see 'em at that tour at Blondie's in Detroit.
