  • I have found a new addiction.

  • These gents along with Coroner have always topped my list. Love "Piggy's" dissonance.

  • easily one of the best bands ever -

  • Anyone know anything about who made this video? The images superimposed inside the static are really moving. I always applaud people who can take a shoestring budget (which I'm sure this video had) and do cool things with it. Always loved this band and still do, they had the balls to explore concept records without being to highbrow or precious about it or taking it into the cheese zone.

  • @jedmatic1

the images are original drawings by the drummer Michel Langevin aka "Away"...

he does all the art work for the band -

  • I'm a chick and Dimension Hatross changed my life when it came out. Words are limitations.....

  • voivod was the most unique band of their time

  • Absolutely brilliant band. Piggy was a truly unique musician. I am happy that the band will carry on. I feel Dan will be able continue where Piggy left off!!

  • This entire album was so important to me. Living in Brooklyn NY, only white girl for miles, I lived in my headphones. That means I lived with tapes and Voivod - Dimension Hatross was played constantly. I miss those days and I still love this band. RIP Piggy.

  • @BridgetC a girl who likes voivod? :0 18?

  • @666fuckoffandie 18? haha, try 44.

  • @BridgetC where you from back then i didnt see any chicks into VoiVod lol im from brooklyn

  • @BridgetC This album was hugely important to me when it came out and I listened to it through crazy & tough times, so I get where you're coming from a bit, I think. Voivod will always be my favorite metal band. Cheers.

  • @BridgetC

You're 44, me too, perhaps we moshed together at L'Amour? That place was the shit back in the day.

  • @Axxisss thats too bad because once you give it a chance for a little while, you cant live without it. I was like you, I especially didn't like the verse, but once i listened to the album as a whole and read the concept of the album, i seemed that every song needed to be as it was. Voivod is very smart that way. If you are a metal fan, then give this a chance; not just this song, but the whole album. But everyone has their own opinion.

  • These guys were always wierd. Creative, but wierd. I like their older material best.

  • voivod try to come to Antofagasta again my friends

  • I love everything voivod ever did! old stuff, new stuff, videos. The thing about voivod songs is kinda like king diamond. You have to absorb it and then you cant stop listening to it! I love this video because it reminds me of what all the songs remind me of. A beautiful euphoria, which is what this video looks like. A euphoria like on the cover of dimension hatross.

  • @grahamccollins

people is stupid, metallica is great,so voivod,so shut the fuck up

  • @SnakesBlues snakesrulez!!

  • @grahamccollins what do you mean for a change, Metallica is perfection, it's hard to get better than Metallicas first 4 albums. He left because he couldn't play with other groups whilst being in Metallica, so he left and made Metallica better by doing it.

  • @Sepultallica86 metallica is way overated and generic

  • Honestly to me Voivod has never done anything even slightly terrible I own Angel Rat, Negatron, Phobos, Voivod, Katorz, Infini and both of there DVD'S and nothing on any of those is even below average most bands wish they could write songs half as well

  • One of the greatest metal songs ever written. What even comes close to this.

  • Piggy was easily one of the most innovative guitarists out there. R.I.P.

  • Damnit, why couldn't I have been born twenty years earlier?

I really doubt I'll ever find a band I like more than Voivod, really.

  • one of top albums ever...avangarde!

  • Huh. Nothingface shows up at 0:40.

  • @Eidolon234 rofl i couldn't aggree more

  • @Eidolon234 Your first point is correct. Also i have to agree that dime inspired some kids to play and that they ended up so bad.But those werent inspired only by dime.I have seen guys who listen to numetal mentioning the big 4 as great artists, which i find sad since you can't listen to slipknot and then thrash but anyway what i mean is that dime was a great guitarist and that i dont want to see him being bashed in voivod vids the way kirk is in megadeth vids!it's just sad!thank you for your time

  • RIP Piggy

  • Every time i listen to these guys..i am overwhelmed with how original they are

  • god bless denis

  • the graphics look like they were done on an Amiga with Deluxepaint (or a 2gs with Paintworks Gold)... anyone? Anyone? :)

  • @rebusd

Haha you think this is bad, Ravenous Medicine is even worse. the video, that is. The song kicks ass.

  • @rebusd they were done on a Commodore Amiga, don't know for the software though. One of my my friends is Snake's nephew and he told me all sorts of crazy stuff about his uncle's band, like the delirious parties during the tour with Metallica in the 80's and how the whole band would all of the sudden crash at his place when he was a young teenager, "Hello sis! Got something to drink??". Pretty cool, i'm just 2 degrees from one of my all time fave, heïl Voïvod!!

  • @anatolzygorwski yeah... they were quite the partiers, from what I heard around the scene back then. True quebecers.... :)

  • @grahamccollins no... I think they still kept the hair and the lycra a bit after, lol.

  • @grahamccollins so what's your point?mustaine was a jerk when he drunk how does that make him a bad musician?

  • voivod is badass

  • @grahamccollins why bitchin bro?i love voivod and i also love dimebag.why dont we respect both piggy and dime as two awesome musicians?

  • @grahamccollins amen

  • 7 Bitches are ignorant

  • VOIVOD RULES! It is most excellent that they have decided to continue without Piggy. It is what Piggy would have wanted I am sure. But it really must have taken a lot of thought before they made that decision. A very heavy decision it is to make, such a thing. KUDOS you guys, and next time I see you, Snaky, I promise not to embarass you with fat joints in front of your girlfriend on the second floor of Foufs

  • it was and it will stay a cult band! it happens only to the best of 'em

  • it was and always will be a cult band! happens only to the best of 'em

  • Voivod All the time writes good music, in the thrash and in the progresive, they're great musicans, they found their sound in progresive and not in the thrash, but i think this a realy good band and this voice sound like Mustaine lol

  • Voivod All the time writes good music, in the thrash and in the progresive, they're great musicans, they found their sound in progresive and not in the thrash, but i think this a realy good band

  • low budget = most psychedelic things ever loll

on est les meilleurs dans ces affaires la,se débrouiller ak s'quon a pis réaliser des trucs sa coche!

  • MTV headbanger's Ball back in 1987-88. Damn, this song goes waaaay back. Showing my age here, but this was cutting edge good shit back then. Still is.

  • one of my personal favorite records of all time. I remember buying it the weeks of its release and was so shocked at the amount of balls it took take music to another plane that really wasn't accepted in the mid 80's

  • Man, the drums on this are insane... fuck yeah \m/

  • One of my fav albums of all time.

  • Oh my goodness, I think this may be my favorite record ever.

  • Awesome! My favourite Voivod album, no doubt!

  • Pity Piggy had to die so young, while Bob Dylan is still alive and kicking. Proof of a godless universe...

  • @FedorEight Why you dissing Bob Dylan he's as much of a genious as Piggy was.

  • @toxicwaltz89

    hahahaha sucks for youuuu

  • @toxicwaltz89 Beautifully so to me.

  • Well, I'm not about to have an argument with someone on you tube. I only comment on stuff i like, not stuff i don't. As far as ME being ignorant, I study classical and jazz at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and I have much appreciation for many styles of music from all parts of the world, musicians of all of races. As much as you want me to say something mean to you, I'm not. You are entitled to your opinion 100%. Have a nice day.

  • NOTHING CAN STOP THE PSYCHIC VACUUM!!!! HAIL THE VOIVOD!!!! R.I.P. PIGGY!!!!!

  • hehhe since 1984, fucking genius!!!!! far ahead at their time, i love this album

  • Sick solo 2:11

  • Voivod kills... I love Voivod, John Coltrane and Mozart... open your mind or you'll be doomed by ignorance...

  • @MilesMingusMonk428 your right !

  • @MilesMingusMonk428 mmmmmm coltrane :3

  • Remember when they played this on 120 Minutes? Neither do I.

  • some parts are ok, but a lot of it is a tuneless mess, and the singer sucks.

  • @slantyrock

    Tuneless? Certainly not.

I'm guessing that you're trying to expand your horizons. So listen again.

Music is as much about your engagement with it as it is about the musicianship that created it.

What makes you engage with music?

If you just want sing-along tunes, stick to Pop music.

Voivod is worth your attention, so don't make silly naive comments.

  • @krysylys It seems to me like they are trying to hard to write off the wall complex stuff, but it just ends up being a bit too messy, i've listened to a few of their albums but just couldn't quite get into them, the singer does not help at all, lets be honest here, by the way, i'm not saying the bad suck, i'm just saying i personally don't believe they very good, i see they have a loyal fanbase.

  • @slantyrock I understand your personal taste. That's fine. But I would never waste my energy criticising music I don't like. I either like it, or I don't. I'm "into" music. Clearly, so are you. Don't try to analyse. Just listen. You may be surprised. For example, it took me a while to realise that I liked Frank Zappa. Writing "off the wall, complex stuff" in the "Metal" genre had not been done before in the way Voivod did it. It's OK if you don't like Voivod. You don't have to.
  • voivod means f***** metal bottom line!!!

  • it sound so pink floid but the earlier stuff......but witha metal touch.

  • Dimension Hatross is their best cd and my youth!!!! ha ha, I can compare only hendrix to this song

  • I mean... just listen to 02:32-03:14 - this transcends the whole universe! No metal band has ever written such stuff, fuck no

  • c'est des rois!^^

  • Though these guys don't mix in a bunch of obscure genres like Mike Patton, I would say these guys are one of the first avant-garde metal bands along with celtic frost. Their time signatures and drum patterns are so unusual. The guitar and bass grooves are so weird with so many chords not found in heavy metal, even though it's technically prog metal. Anyone agree?

  • @subhumanmaster agreed

  • So glad I saw them at Ozzfest 2003 in Scranton, PY. F'n amzaing.

  • Bands like Enslaved or Code have great influences nothing like following the great King Crimson current ;-)

  • Im tripping balls.

  • " 2:10 I'm the 3 Pygmees from the Hatross dimension in the back of Piggy doing his solo. (for real). I was also the Director's assistant during the whole production of the clip. Unforgettable moments.

  • Voivod were always so far ahead of their time. Nothing can stop the psychic vacuum!

  • Nothing can stop the Psychic Vacuum!!!!!

  • @BigBozSicenunow it's the best Metal release from 1988. Does that answer your question you retarded pile of feces?

  • LMFAO,muc much better than Metallica,Motlety crue,Guns N Roses etc,isn't that right dickhead,LOL!!!!!!!!!

  • I can't truthfully answer this as I'm only familiar with the very early albums of these shitty bands you mentioned. Guns N Roses I never listened to but that's not even Metal so it's irrelevant.

However Metallica's "Kill 'Em All" or "No Life til Leather" as great as they are still don't come close to VoiVod's Dimension Hatross. Crue's first 2 albums (the only ones worth checking) aren't even comparable.

  • Metallica sucks for more reasons than I have time to explain!

  • & what this "classy band" are better ,LOL,even the shitty "St anger" is better than this shit!!!!

  • If you ever had the opportunity of listening to the album Dimension Hatross, from start to finish, with the lyrics, then perhaps that might change your opinion. I'll admit that the video is stupid, low-budget, poor quality, and so on, but the marketing of this kind of music was very limited at that time(1988), There was no internet back then, and save for a few magazines, there was virtually no other way for this band to reach their fans, plus the rash decision making of the record companies.

  • Sorry dude, I thumbs downed you totally by mistake - it was meant for the douche hole above.

  • @xretrovertigox LOL! Now that really hurt my feelings. Relax man.

  • Voivod!!!!!!!!! Piggy and Michel are my heroes! You don't like them, you didn't live through the 80's!!

  • It isnt thrash. Its something beyond description.

  • i saw them live yesterday ... didnt like them

  • Shut the fuck up. Voivod rules!

  • @EliteBeast That's what any retard would say but hey, they still perform lobotomies. Take advantage of it before the obamacare kicks in.

  • @EliteBeast

ok ima just simply say your an idiot i was going to write an essay on how it is but it would be much easier to just tell you straight out.

go shit im not a fish

to be honest i would cum myself if i saw voivod for u to be taking that for granted i shall laugh at you haha!!

  • @MorbidMayhem they were just an opener for Kreator. relax dude.

  • @EliteBeast just an opener? you have any idea how the voivod albums influenced and shaped the metal scene

they had the balls to be different and out there

    those beautiful canadians

  • piggy we miss you man!!!!!!

  • these guys couldn't write a bad song to save their lives

  • it's like a mix of metal, 70's progressive rock and plain weirdness awesome

  • synster gates is a way better guitarist than this guy

kidding! synster gates/ avenged sevenfold sucks balls

  • you scared me their for a second Synster gates is very very by the books and boring. While piggy wrote his own book with well I don't what he wrote it with but it kicks ass and I believe Piggy helped a close- minded dude realize you don't have to shred a million notes to be a great guitar player

  • snake looks like a cool version of the joker from the dark knight

  • 90's were boring. 80's 4 life !

  • yes! in 90's the most good bands get commercial and fucked up. metallica for example

  • this song is epic. wasnt it blacky who did alot of the artwork for the covers and videos.

  • I think it was Away, not Blacky.

  • Haha... this is incredibly odd and fantastic, I mean listen to 02:31 , have you ever heard another sphere put in music like that?

Listen to that bass and guitar....

and realise how much crap and abuse are done on instruments on other records.

  • Yeah, listen to King Crimson, Van Der Graaf Genertaor and Bauhaus, this is who Voivod said they were influenced by... Especially the King Crimson stuff, you would love the "Red" album.

  • Oh yeah, I know all that stuff... damn right, the "Red" album is a key, for sure.

  • All of those amazing bands. Check out Gentle Giant, Magma, Henry Cow if you havent!

  • Gentle Giant are incredible (esp, "Power And The Glory album), but would sadly alienate most Voivod listeners because they aren't "metal enough". I still think anyone who likes Voivod or Primus should listen to GG...

  • unique sound. One of the best trashmetal-bands ever....Voivod rules

  • i was lucky enough to see them on the nothingface tour in New Orleans....truly one of the best shows I have ever seen!

  • Unique, ahead of their time = VoiVod

  • One of my all time faves! Saw them live several times. Hung out with Away when they played with Soundgarden @ Numbers in Houston. Only time in my life that my high school French ever did me any good! One of the greatest thrash bands ever!

  • No one will ever be like them.

  • I think this song is the equivalent to crack for me

  • Why the fuck couldn't i be born when this awesome 1 of a kind band was around and in their prime. Instead I'm from an era where everyone likes Devil Wears Prada. Jesus this generation of people suck

  • This times that we are living don't have their own spirit, did anyone notice that?

  • yes i play guitar people tell me to sound like this and that yet i think people forget to try something that sounds different. I hope to end this piece of shit "Metal scene" in my hometown

  • The 80's and the 90's had their own, very distinct evolution of underground heavy metal. Unfortunately this decade has done nothing but recap what happened over the last two decades, and as you pointed out, without it's own spirit.

  • Damn straight man Im 18 but feel closer to music back in the 80's and 90's.

  • That's because you have taste!

  • same here, 19 but i dont even care about newer groups, i do listen to good old trash metal hard rock, especially megadeth and guns n roses! LONG LIVE TO VOIVODDDD im going to see them next saturday 12!

  • early 90s that is

  • Some great faces going on there from Snake...

  • long live the iron gang!

  • My favorite song by them

  • Voivod sure knows how to thrash prog metal!

    I LOVE IT!

  • best progressive band with toxik...

  • hell yeah

  • Man I haven't listening to them in years. And it's still as good today as it was back in the day. They truly are pioneers of prog-metal. Thanks for posting this stuff guys!!!

  • Voivod - Psychic Vacuum fucking RULES!!!!

  • great vid too!

one of the trppiest ever made!

love the way it gets all creppy and grindhousey at the end!

  • Voivod were real avant-garde metal pioneers!

    Thanks for the vid!

They used chord sequences you would more commonly find on King Crimson/Robert Fripp records, and doesn't it just sound cool?

Voivod made Industrial Metal of their own invention. Totally unique.

    Viva Voivod!

  • Well maybe Celtic Frost more-so when it comes to Avant-garde, but i hear ya!

  • Dimension Hatross tour....saw then at Fender's Ballroom, Long Beach, CA....back in the day.

  • I saw this tour at the stone in San Francisco.

  • Fuck, that must have been sweet! Miss the stone. I saw them with Testament(?) at the warfield. Alot of the crowd looked like they didn't know what to make of these guys.

  • Yeah, I did too. One of the most underrated bands IMO.

  • so good music, it's still up to date. i'ved seen every show at the spectrum and other place around quebec! it's still good!

  • unique sound ,unique band this is one the best metal album ever made !!it s to be heard to be beleive ,it s right in the face!!at the time i ll dream that a band like that exist !

  • \,,/... HAIL VoiV0d...\,,/

  • dimension hatross and nothingface were my favorite records when i was in highschool. its cool to see this video. thanks

  • metal would not be what it is today without voivod!

  • Awesomeness again!

  • voivod rules!

  • insane and tres cool..this was from a truly great album...HUGE,,,,

  • Insane science fiction rhythm guitar. This along with Overreaction, Tornado, KT, Brain Scan, Ravenous Medicine, Forgotten In Space, and Order Of The Blackguards!

  • YES!!!!!!!!

    OMG YESSSSSSS

i've been looking for this forEVER

    <3<3

  • I love voi-vod.dimension hatross underrated album.

  • One of the best songs from DH

  • Any band, with a drummer who lists Van Der Graaf Generator as one of his heroes, are cool with me.

  • fan of Van der graaf too...didnt know the drummer was a fan too hehehe

  • Oh yeah.Away was always mentioning them in interviews. I listened to a radio interview at the time of Nothingface's release, and Piggy and Away were talking about favorites like King Crimson, Soft Machine, Pink Floyd and Van Der Graaf.Wonder if that's on a torrent somewhere.

  • Dimension Hatross is my fave VoiVod album of all time. Got to see 'em at that tour at Blondie's in Detroit.

  • its such an honor to know that there are crazy fuck out there who can love an album like dimension hatross ,i thought i was the only one in the world who loved that album to death.

  • no dude trust me there's plenty more of us crawling out of the woodwork

  • these voivod brakes...awesome

  • voivod rules! Yeah,we're gettin' old fuckers.

  • This is like freak out and fuck you metal.

  • Voivod rulez!
