In my first semester of electromechanical and we are doing a Formula SAE student car. I've never built a car chassis before so I'm not entirely sure where to start with that. My team will be building the chassis, so I'm wondering, from experienced builders, what is one's starting point as far as the physical building of the chassis?do we need suspension geometry or anything like that before we can begin building the chassis, how do we go about determing what the suspension geometry would be?
You should start to put the wheels in positon (that has often something to do with the regulations), then work first on ergonomics (how you will put the driver in the cockpit), then position the engine. Once you have these fundamental parameters in position (btw you can play with them to define your center of gravity position), you can start to define your chassis. Keep in mind that a chassis main function is to connect rigidely the rear and the front suspensions.
Wow nice proyect !! I would like build a chassis like this ,somebody can tell where I an get plans to build one ? It will be my dream do it ,I´m race go karts for years but I would like some formula car
what holds the front suspension up i can't see any shocks or springs. i like the design chassis. im making a less expensive version with an old snowmobile engine.
i would be glag to send you video as soon as possible !! for my first buggy its a pirhana with the front of an xrv from the edge racing with a yamaha gs 1100 it rock in the pit and for the second one for my children is a track 2 from the edge racing and a little bit of the velociraptor of the badland buggy with a honda trx 300 !! with good pictures and a lot a passion for the sport i make miracles !!and i am a perfectionist so every parts weldings and so on are show room ! thank for the respond
thanks for the idea nice machine !!! i made 2 offroad buggys but now i am going for serious business !!!!! i'm a welder and the cost for building this machine is not faraminous !!! with a 1300 hayabusa at the track it would be a monster!!!! and again very nice machine

That should have proper car wheels and tyres to be safe, i dont trust those tires and you really cant push the car to its limit with that!

Well, 10'000km (6'200miles) of testing on a racing track at the extreme limits make me confident enough even in these tires.
Rims/wheels : After having tested several brands, it was decided to choose the BRAID ones.
Don't know which company it is ? Braid is one of the major Rallye wheels suppliers.
Tires ? Right, these tires works "only" about 10'000km on a track (!). You can put slicks for a better grip of course (cost x4)
