this fight about all the versions is so petty. they all did a good job, but to be quite honest none of them have a classical dance background so their dancing is horrid. Shobana was by far the best in terms of dancing, and the tamil version took SO much out of this version for 'raa raa'

the music is most soothing in hindi version...the malayalam version music seemed to be a remix and less for a cultural performance...although shobhana did exceptionally good on that.
i dont know any of the south indian languages...i ws watching classical dance of vidya balan in its hindi remake 'bhool bhulaiya' wn i cam to know of itsoriginal versions. i watched shobhana's performance and i simply loved it. this script is itself so nice and i was amazed to see that it is filmed in so many languages. the shobhana's version being the first was nice and a landmark. all others are based on it i think. the hindi version being the last and on a higher level was also up to mark.
Obviously,she knows nothing about classical dance.Those who think this or any other remake better than original malayalam version,no doubt,they are totally ignorant about classical dance .And these remakes are really intended for such audience.Who cannot see art or creativity or talent but only the faces of their favorite heros and their heroism.Malayalam movies are for a different kind of audience and that make it different,at least in those days.
For navalli character Shobhan performance well but soundarya performed extremly well. if soundarya is alive insteaded of jothika she would have taken to chandramuki of tamil version

Note that Malayalam is spoken by only 3% of india's population and it won the most popular movie in india that year competing with hindi, telugu and tamil movies which has 4 times more viewers..!!

I am a tamilian.Had seen the first original version in malayalam in 1999. SHobana and mohanlal rocked. When chandramuki was released I went to watch it in theatre ,I was dissappointed. The suspense, the thrill , the gripping story line was lost. Mohanlal way of explaining the disorder was awesome. Anybody here who claims that the telugu or tamil or kannada version of the movie is better than the original..I am sorry to call you FANATICS. Appreciate and give credit to people who deserve it.

first of all, know that original version of this film was made in malayalam "MANICHITHRA THAZHU" then it is remade in tamil,telugu,kannada.when compare this film in different language i like the song "rara" better than "oru murai vanthu paarthaya"(malayalam) but everybody should accept the unbeatable acting of "shobhana" in manichithre thazhu. really ,no actress can beat her acting in this scene, so that she has won the national award
I liked Soundarya the most. Jyothika and Vidya Balan were no doubt like jokers but the thing with Shobhana is that her dance is too perfect and looks way too rehearsed for an episode of schizophrenia. This is what was nice about Soundarya. I don't think she is a trained dancer so even her moves as the danseuse were not that good. But they suited the patient. The character should be kind of crazy but not scary and intense like Shobhana.

Fyi, this is the Kannada movie Apthamithra which the tamil Chandramukhi (which was dubbed and simultaneously released in Telugu) follows almost scene by scene. Apthamithra was the first remake of the original, Manichithrathazhu. The song is in Telugu because the dancer is supposed to be a Telugu, as the Shobana in M. sings in Tamil because she is supposed to be Tamil. Similarly, the corresponding song in Chandramukhi is also in Telugu, and for the Telugu dub the song is in Tamil (Varai).
she wanted to shoot for this song after the campaign probably this movie wouldnt have been made and thus there wouldnt be chandramukhi.. bcos rajni was so impressed and wanted to do this in tamil ... but by them shivaji productions held the rights and thts how rajni pitched in ...

lot of idiots here doesn't know that when the original mallu movie was made they were in nappies...!! Malayalam original won the national award for the most popular movie in 1994 and it bagged Shobana the best actress award, Yesudas won award for playback singer and best cinematography...
Note that Malayalam is spoken by only 3% of india's population and it won the most popular movie in india that year competing with hindi, telugu and tamil movies which has 4 times more viewers..!!

I am a tamilian.Had seen the first original version in malayalam in 1999. SHobana and mohanlal rocked. When chandramuki was released I went to watch it in theatre ,I was dissappointed. The suspense, the thrill , the gripping story line was lost. Mohanlal way of explaining the disorder was awesome. Anybody here who claims that the telugu or tamil or kannada version of the movie is better than the original..I am sorry to call you FANATICS. Appreciate and give credit to people who deserve it.

I liked Soundarya the most. Jyothika and Vidya Balan were no doubt like jokers but the thing with Shobhana is that her dance is too perfect and looks way too rehearsed for an episode of schizophrenia. This is what was nice about Soundarya. I don't think she is a trained dancer so even her moves as the danseuse were not that good. But they suited the patient. The character should be kind of crazy but not scary and intense like Shobhana.

Fyi, this is the Kannada movie Apthamithra which the tamil Chandramukhi (which was dubbed and simultaneously released in Telugu) follows almost scene by scene. Apthamithra was the first remake of the original, Manichithrathazhu. The song is in Telugu because the dancer is supposed to be a Telugu, as the Shobana in M. sings in Tamil because she is supposed to be Tamil. Similarly, the corresponding song in Chandramukhi is also in Telugu, and for the Telugu dub the song is in Tamil (Varai).

@sikenthreads Just shut up.The I dont know about the Manchitrathazhu Movie over all.But the Manchitrathazhu climax song just sucks.The Music is Hopeless for Manchitrathazu.The Malayalam movie became popular because of this RA RA SONG.There is no comparison to this song whether it was in Hindi or in Malyalam.Both the songs in hindi and Malayalam just suuuuuuuuuuuuuck!!!!!!!!!!

@abhaycharan32 If you haven't seen the Manichithrathazhu movie then who are you to reply back to my comment? I didn't say this song is bad - I think it is very catchy and has a nice melody. What I said was that the Malayalam original was better; not just the music but the movie as a whole. And to be perfectly honest, if you believe that the music for the Malayalam original is 'hopeless', then I can only assume that you are an idiot. So why don't you shut up, yeah?

@sikenthreads I saw the movie today.Its hopeless.Hopeless villagers like will like to see that silly malayalam movie.The Profile of the Movie got noticed because of the Kannada Remake.Otherwise it would have been rejected even by dogs.
