Ahhhh, the good ol' days. My first dex experience was using the Citronic Hawaii - belt driven twin deck heaven! No crossfader back then.. Following that I tried to build my own "twin deck" monster with two Garrard belt drive turntables which I bought in an auction for GBP2 each! After nearly killing myself by introducing 240volts to my makeshift rotary "crossfader", I decided the electrics were dodgy! Now I use Pioneer DJM800/CDJ1000 :D
The SL1200mk2 was first introduced in 1981, the SL1200 had a pitch fader as well but did not utilize the quartz lock technology and had a lower torq motor... The actual 1200MK2 is still the same model as it was in 81 so that's 27 years of being the industry standard... Thought I would share the knowledge....
Addition to your information: an SL1200 MK1 had two pitch dials (for 33 and 45RPM) instead of a slider (I think, not really detailed photo's on google). It also had an other pattern of dots on the platter as most (affordable) turntables have today (ex. JB Systems High Q30D).
Citronic, Fal, Pulsar and the one not mentioned Roger Squires or Squires the first Citronic deck you showed i had it at the standard belt turntable but was fine for years! those par effects were a pain as the bulbs always blew....and carrying 1000s of 45s, 33s and 12in singles knightmare. BUT IT WAS GREAT. noticed no mixing tips we didnt have to worry about it too much fade in fade out and a bit of banter... BIT LIKE WHAT I DO NOW HA HA. thanks jay check my vid rgds jearley
WOW, thats a nice find. It's great too see things looking back, I wonder what folks will say when they see back in time to our time.. Thank-you for showing us your book!
Ha ha, i remember greg edwards (at 2.39) he had a weekend funk & soul show on london capital radio, he played some dam good music in those days, in fact i have some tapes of some of his shows from 1986, i must make a vid of those tapes and post them on here, those were the days, nice one j.
Hell that takes me back. I remember my old Citronics dual turntable combo. Mixer on front and a cassette deck in between the decks!!!
I use to use FAL kit, it was the Mutts Nuts back then and those old helicopter pars were so bloody expensive. You knew you had made it big time when you had a blue AND a red fuzz light!!!
I have this book! Is very very good!

I think the MK1 had a pitch control, but it was a knob not a slider
Grenozh 3 years ago 3
i have a technics sl-d202 (circa 1970?) and thats basically it, just a little knob for pitch control
haha i hate that bloody thing, would not recommend it to ANYONE unless you don't want to use it to mix so much
