@hotpot8oproductions These are Vic Firth SD1 Generals. I love them for practicing and concert music but too heavy for drumset unless I am playing punk or heavy rock.
Chop builder? You mean chop destroyer this think makes your cans dependent on that bounce it gives you and when you play on real drums they suck. Get like a Xymox pad with the thinnest rubber.
@thatguyuknow1 I didn't name the pad, dude. It's just what it's called. Some of us prefer practicing on the actual drums. I like this pad but use it about 1% of the time.
@garrettmillerdrums I know I used to have that pad I wasn't directing that comment at you lol I was just saying in general. And are you in a marching band?
@drummerjosh100 It is literally called the "Chop Builder Practice Pad" by Vater. Take it up with them if you think it doesn't build chops. In my opinion, pads don't build chops, people build chops.
@sweetfly66 Well now that I think of it I dont like my vader except for articulateing my Xymox. But I haven't played much stick control my foucus atm is Roll This and it kicking my ass.
@GigaMushroom are kidding this pad will give you really bad pad hands it feels nothing like kevlar! the xymox and invader are for building chops on a no rebound surface like kevlar... please get you facts straight.
@drummrboyee ..the problem with practicing on non rebound surfaces is that when you do get to a snare drum you might not be comfortable with the rebound ... the sticks feel like they are bouncing and flying all over the place ...i prefer a rebounding surface to practice on since i can do finger control , rebounding exercises , and do non rebounding wrist and arm exercises as well .... i use this vater pad .. i prefer the black side , it is a little less reboundy than the red side .
@sweetfly66 Yeah this is a good point but BOTH sides give you pad hands, not just regualr pad hands but really bad pad hands. The method I use is play double strokes on a pillow 15mins a day then move on to a concrete floor then finally practice pad.(XymoX or invader) the only time i use my vater anymore is for The Drummers Bible STICK CONTROL! i recomend this book for everyone!
If your method works for you that is all that matters . But I definitely do not see the logic in using , and worrying about all these different surfaces ... one thing about me ..i do not do drum corps , i play drumset so I am most concerned about being able to control my sound and feel on the set ... playing on a pillow is not good for ME when i get to the set ... by contrast , working out rudiments , drum corps style cadences , and finger control on this pad has translated well to drumset
@sweetfly66 I don't use it exclusively for stick control. I have 5 or 6 pads and I use them all at various times. Just depends on what I feel like playing on.
@rodriguezaarondream dont get the xymox custom snare pad. there is literally no rebound i mean it looks really cool and all but it is not a good deal since the rebound is terrible.
My friend has the Invader V3, which isnt bad but also lacks rebound.... but its cool because you can play shots on it and it is a big as an actual snare
@garrettmillerdrums One of my friends got the Xymox and i didn't really like it. it was TOO slick, my sticks kept sliding everywhere. I have the V3 and its the best I've ever had haha
@RayezProductions It's more of a marching percussion sort of thing. Your hands get so used to the drum pad, once you get back to the marching snare, it's impossible to perform.
i have this pad its alright to learn on until it gave me severe pad hands when i moved to a real snare. to me it feels like the pad is absorbing all your attacks and there is a lack of dynamic contrast when playing. I highly suggest buying the Invader V3 like i did. best investment ever.
Its an ok pad..I had it for about a year and then gave it to a friend..i found it to have too much rebound. (even the day i bought it) but i did what i can with it, and got some descent practice out of it..not my preferred pad, but not at all my favortie. If you don't like too much bounce you can just use the other side..i eventually went back to my vic firth regardless..but its all about the feel your looking for..
@bejay20x The Vic Firth Slim pad is the closest I have come with the pads I own to getting great kevlar bounce. I love how it sounds and how it feels but it is still not exactly like a marching snare. I don't mind so much because I don't march cept when I was in high school band.
i really want that exact pad my friend just got one and i love the fill. would u say this double sidded vater or a double sidded vic firth would be better ,and where can i order a red vater or blue one like this
@Rhell13 I got mine at Guitar Center and it's all up to you what is better for you. I have 7 practice pads and they all feel different. One is even for brushes.
familyguy lol how do you chop like dat

@ironspideravatar What do you mean? How do I practice while watching Family Guy? lol It's incredibly easy...turn on Family Guy...start playing. ;-)

Is it better to have a less bouncy pad to build snare chops or an Offworld percussion V3 practice pad?
patman173 8 months ago
@patman173 I don't know, it's up to you and what you like. IMO, practice pads don't build chops, practice builds chops.
garrettmillerdrums 8 months ago
@garrettmillerdrums well a really bouncey pad like this vater one would take more time to build those chops then any other pad.
patman173 8 months ago
@patman173 lol, as if "chops" have an end point. Just play.

where you play on a pad too much and then you play on a real marching drum and your hands SUCK.

really. i've yet to find a pad that has as much bounce as a high tention kevlar head, let alone one that succeeds the rebound tremendously
