@PVvikings33 lol you get pads you get chest protectors goalie gloves with thick padding for the fingers and a throat guard thats almost impossible to break
I'd say keep your shoulders pointed out make yourself as possible is what my goalie coach told me, also get your body in front on a bounce pass don't just rely on your stick
This is my second year even knowing about lax, and last year i got talked into playing goalie... so yeah... any tips would be freakin awesome. im not horrible, but im still far from decent. 6'3' 200 lbs.
i just started playing goalie and have a goalie shaft. i notice that alot of people use attack shafts on their goalie sticks. is this better/ easier to control the ball with.
Hey mate, I used to play with an attack shaft on my goalie stick but switched back. Here's why:
-Longer shaft gave me more leverage for long clearing passes,
-Longer shaft allows easier feed interception,
-Most importantly for me, I found that having the point of balance in the stick at the throat was more important than lowering the overall weight of the stick in making the stick easier to handle and faster on the saves.
This is just my experience, do what helps you stop the ball.
@PrimeSportsTraining i hate it when i do it too soon and it goes somewhere else..... that's the only thing i have a problem with, well that and between the legs
bad form... 1st hes making a RAMP (the but of the stick is facing outward) in his stance.2nd, u should NEVER EVER stick the back of your stick into the goal. lots of goalies tend to do this. doing this leads to your stick getting caught into the net. also, u are practically saving the ball with the back stop of the head.
not true...it's all about being comfortable and loose. These steps are bad too. You want to step up into the shot, forwards not sideways. And you should catch the shot and not pop it up....overall this video isn't teaching the right fundamentals.
I think that if you are a more advanced or more experienced goalie you can give up more stick side. this allows you to tempt shooters into bad spots. This also allows you to get balls to your off stick much easier.
This video is rediculous... I am a division 2 goalie. and you step to the shooter not the ball.. the ball can change directions. the shooter is in one fixed spot at release
I could not disagree anymore. By coming out at the shooter, your momentum is moving forward - if the ball goes to the sides of you, it is tough to get to the ball in time.
@PrimeSportsTraining Agreed. The entire point of stepping is to increase the speed with which your stick gets to the position it needs to be in. Stepping straight at the shooter defeats the purpose.
lax balls cannot change direction. It is physically impossible for a human using a lax stick to impart of spin on a lax ball to cause it "curve" or change direction. This is a myth and goes against the laws of physics. The reason is unlike baseballs, basketballs, volleyballs, and tennis balls lacrosse balls are almost completely smooth. This means it isn't possible to generate varying air pressure (the cause of movement seen in balls) around a lacrosse making it impossible to curve them.
charge a player is if the player on the crease has the ball the goalie takes a step out and attacks the player with the ball while still in this stance.
i find it easier to have my stance all like that but with my hands and stick more out and parralel to my face and down through out my body so your even on all shots weather on or off stick hand
i dont play lax but it looks really hard to play goalie.... i mean you dont get pads, all you have is a stick with a large head......

@matengel1 Bend your knees a lot. You're tall so you can utilize that height by making your entire but take up part of the cage.

i was taught to step towards the ball to cut off the angle, and to step right before the ball releases or right as it releases from the shooter.
bugred 2 years ago
How do you step before the ball releases? That is guessing. Wait to the ball comes out and then step out towards the ball at an angle.

well some of this is true but not all of it it is still good though they need to talk about to charge the player when on a fast break though
slackerboy3000 2 years ago
What does "charge a player" mean? I have never heard of that.
PrimeSportsTraining 2 years ago
charge a player is if the player on the crease has the ball the goalie takes a step out and attacks the player with the ball while still in this stance.
LILSTEBS24 2 years ago
Then the player just shoots the ball around the goalie coming out.
PrimeSportsTraining 2 years ago
no, you have to stuff him, where ever his stick goes ur stick goes nd also if hes on the crease the goalie cn hit him
LILSTEBS24 2 years ago
what if he puts it around you?
or fakes high and goes low
thekidwiththefro 2 years ago
if he fakes high and goes low u hav to see the high fake then step foward and try to match his stick or block it
ZayXanProductions 2 years ago 2
yea exactly and thus not charging him
thekidwiththefro 2 years ago
@PrimeSportsTraining with the comment u made at lilstebs24 i run out when its just me and the kid outside crease and it works most times

I think it is whatever you are most comfortable with but you should have some of these basic parts to the form.
PrimeSportsTraining 2 years ago
good stuff. but if you step towards the shooter your cuting off angle making it easier to save.
Louisd123 2 years ago
I think you step both out and to the side.
asp0898 2 years ago
for bounce shots shouldnt you get your body and stick over top of it before it has time to bounce up. it cuts down on unpredictable bounces going in
SKYLERBLEWITT 3 years ago
Yes - you should step out at the ball to the side. You are right.
PrimeSportsTraining 3 years ago
Yeah they say to smother it. Often you see goalies exaggerate it too by putting their face down low
