@RoyFive The fact that Jim is dumber than Buddy, but dignity blinds him to it, makes them more like Laurel and Hardy, rather than Abbott and Costello.
My parents say that they knew one these actors (I think Buddy), and that he had stopped the sketches because his kid was getting ribbed at school about his dumb father. That's love for you...
When I was a kid, Buddy and Jim were my favorite part of Sesame Street. In later years I would mention the duo and get blank looks - no one remembered them! Thanks for posting this memory. The shoe sketch and the sandwich sketch are the ones I remember most, even though I haven't really seen them since I was 4 years old. :)
Do you remember the singer Kate? I remember her when I was three, and I recognized her in the photos on Wikipedia's Sesame Street episode guide. Also, do you remember a milk sketch when a man pours milk across a table instead of into a glass, and the other man says, "Oh, you can't do anything…"? It might have been on the Electric Company, but I'm not sure. I remember it when I was four.
My favorite Buddy and Jim episode was when they tried to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. They ended up with 3 slices of bread with peanut butter between the top and middle slices, and jelly between the middle and bottom slices. Wonder if anyone has a copy of that one.
They are like George and Lenny from "Of Mice and Men".

Brandon Maggart played Buddy and James Catusi was Jim.

I didn't like the show as much after they left. Jim thought he was smarter than Buddy, but he was just as clueless.

@professortheremin I was thinking it was almost a Ralph and Ed dynamic from the Honeymooners.

I remember them but jim is a lot dimmer than i remember!

I think these guys were on only in the first season. I barely remembered them, but remembered them nonetheless!

@trishpip Ah yes, the sandwich sketch - "It's a triple decker peanut butter and jelly club sandwich!"

Does anyone have any other Buddy and Jim sketches? Those are funny.

Jim was just as dumb as Buddy--just cockier.

This 2 are like Laurel and Hardy.

Does the piano tune in the background have a name?

Sorry to report James Catusi (Jim) has died earlier this year.
raakone: I think there were 8 such sketches, and only in the first year with these actors.
The same idea was done (although I don't think as well) with other actors the next two seasons.

Lets not forget the actor playing Jim:
James Catusi
I wish all Buddy and Jims were on, like eating soup with a fork.

I think the two last lines on the sandwich sketch were:
Jim: "Just as I thought. It's impossible to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich."
Buddy: "Boy -- is he smart."
The thing I love about these sketches is I can just see the kids screaming at the TV set, "No! No!"

could only of been funnier if Pacino was JIm & DeNiro was Buddy

Buddy: You broke it! Jim
Jim: I know i broke it! I can see that!
mabmb1987 3 years ago
LOL! At first, it looks as though Jim might be a bit brighter than Buddy. Then he chooses the balloon!

Didn't ya know? The dumb guy is always the smarter of the two! (-;
RedVynil 2 years ago
My favorite involved changing a light bulb. Jim would ask for a bulb, Buddy would nonchalantly produce one from his coat pocket.
Jim: "Why do you keep a light bulb in your pocket?" Buddy: "If I put it in my shoe, it'd break."

Golly, I'd love to see that bit.
I think my Old School Sesame Street DVD just had this one sketch of these two. :C
But, gosh, I must say. I have never laughed harder at something on a children's programme.

I'd love to see that, too. YouTube also used to have the clip of them making a sandwich.

I can't believe it! Out of all of these years, I completely forgot about this "Abbott & Costello" like skit!

Please post more. I've seen the one where they have trouble putting on shoes. I don't have a copy of it, though.

"Buddy and Jim"? They're kind of an Abbot and Costello. Except that they're stupider. Where there any more of these sketches?
