Hey a talk box takes sound from a speaker and then puts it into your mouth thats why its has to be inside your mouth. it is not a microphone. and if you put it in front of your mouth you wont get any sound. :0 hope this helps.

One of the things I did for my micro was get a different mic. The little condenser mic that comes with it doesn't pick up spoken nuance too well. Head over to Best Buy or something, and grab a karaoke mic with a 1/4" jack. You'll notice a big difference in the quality of your vocoding.

Another thing you can do, is Midi out your vocal line, then run back into the micro Korg on the desired Vocoder setting, and sing along to the midi'ed track. You don't have to actually play the notes as you sing them. I Also recommend using a regular microphone on a second, separate track, (positioned right beside the vocoder mic, and then balancing them out in the mix.
