@Lee77. the haka can be used by greeting people, in a way. but when done by the AB's or any other rugby team in NZ, its us putting forward a challenge, saying we respect you and by accepting the challenge you respect us. when we do haka we are not disrespecting anyone. and what the welsh rugby team did was awesome. they accepted the challenge by standing their ground which was phat!!! maaad respect for those boys!
Look mate. Either you stop wasting your time looking at 'Pathetic' videos like this or piss off, and learn the language before you try and insult us in it.
haka is traditional. in nz rugby is our passion and religion and therefore carries our tradition of the wardance aka the haka b4 we commence in war (rugby) on the battlefield (rugby pitch). as a maori i agree that th haka should be left out of other sports. but still remains a fine tradition since maori found aotearoa (nz)
If you think the all blacks over do the haka then your lucky you dont live in nz now! every time someone does anything worth recognising they do a haka for them, its well over done
I personally think the whole thing is ridiculous. The haka is a New Zealand tradition...instead, Wales, or indeed any other team should just accept it, and concentrate on winning a game of rugby, which is what its all about...get on with the game, especially if Wales cant live up to their threat.
Why should they? The whole point of the Haka is to intimidate their opponents, so shouldn't the New Zealanders just get on with it too?
Its hardly a tradition, they don't do it with any other sport. Its purely to intimidate, yes there is some tradition but not much. Wales rattled the All Blacks by standing up to them. They should just drop the haka (which would be a terrible thing) if their going to get rattled by people doing stuff (or in this case, nothing) back to them.
The only other national team that performs the Haka in the Rugby League team. The "Tall Blacks" may also do it but I have never seen them play.
The NZ football team doesn't do it, neither does the cricket team.
To answer your final question, yes it meant to be a dance and dance of the Maori tribe and NOT a dance that is purely a war dance which is the popular misconseption.
And it isn't really a tradition because its there to intimidate the opposition and it isn't used for every sport.
how did we disrespect the haka? the haka is a challenge, if you call responding to your challenge disrespectful, then dont lay out a challange infront of us to start with! idiot.. and all we did was stand there silently, thats hardly disrespectful anyway!
the only response wales needs to worry about is actually beating the mighty ALL BLACKS!!!

The skinny welsh boys looked terrified, the Welsh response was pure fear factor. The All Blacks crushed them as usual.

Wales didnt respond to the haka, they just stood around holding hands. responding to the haka depends on what you bring in the next 80minutes.

You are talking out your ass, im a kiwi and it as great to see other teams having new ways of responding to the haka, no one is disrespecting anyone
