I took some accounting classes in high school, and to be honest it was kind of interesting. Not my first pick for a career, but i would consider it. Anyone thinking about doing this i would say go for it. Accounting degrees are usually inexpensive (because you don't have to go to expensive schools to get one), can expect a growth in accounting jobs in the future, flexible hours, and pretty good pay, (somewhere in the $60k+ region if i recall right).
Damn is that an IBM Model M? Amazing to see that I'm typing on one and they were using it way back then. And I'm Asian, too. I guess I'm cut out for the job.
@bertyblue it's typical excuse of useless trash...everything is boring for you..the truth is that you don't wanna study and end up being chronicly worthless...
lol, it's sad, but this video was made recently, not in the 90's. The 150 hours of educational credits is a rule made only recently in the 2000's I think
I work as a financial accountant for a healthcare company, which are known for tight regulations. Knowing excel inside and out will benefit you well in any accounting job I think. It's kind of stressful during close at month end, they pack alot of work and responsibility into a very small amount of time, and everything is on a deadline with a VP staring down at middle management to push you to get it all done in 8 hours. Also, my boss is certifiably insane...had NO problem getting a job though
yea my major right now is accounting but i think i may switch out due to its extreme boring life criteria like how do u keep a job like that without being bored out of ur mind??
miniscule salary plus unpaid over time is a bad combination . thats why i stwitched to finance. they might make me worked like a horse but at least my bonuses will make it all worth the effort.
yer, agree, but it's not boring if you have a lifestyle instead of working all the time, me, well, I want to finshie my apprenticeship in accountants and then work like 3days a week, and do hobbies, i don't want to be stuck in the office all the time. maybe just have enough to pay the bills and go out, if I need more money, i just work longer
Listen my Friend, Accountants get worked very hard for very little, Your very idealistic! A few years working as a qualified accountant will show you what its really like.
@insidethecourt Any colleges have centers that help you decided a major (they wont decide for you, just help). There are departments in school such as an Accounting department if that's what you want to major in.
@LilPupAnime "they wont decide for you, just help"
I think I'm just scared about making a mistake. I've visited them and I keep trying to get them to justify whatever decision I make, just so it'll give me some reconciliation. You're right, it has to be my decision. Thanks for the help!
@FenixSVUK i'm doing my major in finance now..what pisses me off the most is when people from mktg brag about how interesting their job will be and how boring it would be to do accounting\control\corporate finance...they do not realize that most of them is NOT going to do the "intellectual advertising"(or whatever) they dream about, but will end up copypasting data in a bureau, and since faculties like mktg don't teach much, they will stay there for good(:

What really draws me to accounting is the fact that you are in control of all this information. I can't wait to start schooling for it. :D

To be an accountant, You must work hard and accurately. The auditor's job is much more difficult than the accountant's job

I know what it's like, my boss 30years as an accountant tells me an awful lot.
I've been doing it for just a year now, I know the pay I know the work, I do do real accountant work you know, I don't sit around.
Infact, now I can do vat and balance books without mistakes and that is good for me, so pfft what ever
Antdemo 3 years ago
I work 4 days a week, (march-april)
earn £65,000pa,
love the job, its fun, get to go places.
everyjob has its boring parts some times, but stop using the stereotype of an accountant.
I've taken part in setting up 100's of companies and watch them grow and make millions under my nose.
What better satisfaction can you get than that?
"If you enjoy your work, you'll never have to WORK a day."
hours fly past then i go home and enjoy my home life, lots of holidays with my gf etc:)
