DOTM Sentinel isn't a jerk, he is a tragic but noble hero that puts his race and planet as his highest priorities. He was willing to play the role of the villain to ensure that his race survives.

i can't stand transformers animated. maybe it's just because i grew up on g1, but even transformers energon was better than this. having said that, i was VERY impressed with the toys. my son has grimlock, lugnut, black arachnia, bumblebee, and soundwave, and i must say, they all highly resemble the cartoon versions in robot mode, they transform easily, and hold together very well in their alternate forms. oh, but the cartoon still sucks.

Sentinel Prime is a jerk to stir up conflict, drama and interesting stories, and to provoke character development, in a similar way that Dinobot's Predacon nature stirred things up among the Maximals of Beast Wars. Transformers Animated (TFA) Sentinel Prime is not TFA Optimus Prime's father.
TFA Ultra Magnus is the supreme commander of the Autobots.

Sentinel Prime is a name that has been around since the 80s, usually as a predecessor to Optimus Prime. However, he's never been quite like this one.
Originally, the jerk character was going to be called Rodimus Prime, but Hasbro didn't want a well known name tarnished, so Sentinel got the gig instead. The character was redesigned with attributes of The Tick when Townsend Coleman (Tick's voice actor from the cartoon series) came on board to voice Sentinel.
Sentinel can't drive. Ultra Magnus, the biggest vehicle there, easily passes everyone. Sentinel, who is smaller, takes out two cars. someone need to take his drivers lisence away....
G1 gave us Optimus Prime and Megatron and many other names that were household names years before any other incarnation. And it had its flaws. Noticable ones. You don't have to like it, but show it a little respect, because Transformers would not exist today without it.
Indeed, big giant slabs of Animated would not exist, as they are direct references/homages/callbacks to G1.
Maybe not, but the answer isn't either side trying to beat the other down. It's remembering what each series has to offer, and who it is intended for, and letting people decide for themselves.
Unfortunately the Geewunners often consider themselves arbiters of what is or is not "acceptable" (as if it was up to them), or just plain having some imagined seniority. That's the bit that should be railed against, not the series itself (beyond your own personal preference for the shows, anyway).
In TFA, the structure is one Magnus (Latin for "great": Ultra Magnus), there are multiple Primes (Optimus, Sentinel, Rodimus, Longarm, etc), and there are Minors below that (Sentinel Minor, etc).
The approximate equivalents would probably be General, Captain and Sergeant.

@lucariolord12 Actually, in the previous episode (Megatron Rising parts 1 and 2) there was snow and hence within the episode it's still "winter" just no snow on the ground. Then again,this show does take place in about 2108 so it shouldn't be too surprising that weather patterns aren't what people are used to though yes, Sentinel should have chosen a different alternate mode anyways.
While the original G1 toys originated in several Japanese toylines, the Transformers characters, story and mythology originated entirely in the US.
My point about the toy franchise was that the cartoon is there purely to support the toyline, and both are naturally and correctly aimed first and foremost at kids.
Well yeah, if you consider that it only got good after they had sgone about halfway through it. Oh and let's not forget what they did to Starscream: They turned him into a whiny little weeaboo who only wanted Megatron to respect him. It took them three series to get his personality right (in Cybertron).
The americans got Starscream right in the very first episode. As well as most of the other characters.

Sentinel Prime is a jerk to stir up conflict, drama and interesting stories, and to provoke character development, in a similar way that Dinobot's Predacon nature stirred things up among the Maximals of Beast Wars. Transformers Animated (TFA) Sentinel Prime is not TFA Optimus Prime's father.
TFA Ultra Magnus is the supreme commander of the Autobots.

Sentinel Prime is a name that has been around since the 80s, usually as a predecessor to Optimus Prime. However, he's never been quite like this one.
Originally, the jerk character was going to be called Rodimus Prime, but Hasbro didn't want a well known name tarnished, so Sentinel got the gig instead. The character was redesigned with attributes of The Tick when Townsend Coleman (Tick's voice actor from the cartoon series) came on board to voice Sentinel.

Sentinel can't drive. Ultra Magnus, the biggest vehicle there, easily passes everyone. Sentinel, who is smaller, takes out two cars. someone need to take his drivers lisence away....

G1 gave us Optimus Prime and Megatron and many other names that were household names years before any other incarnation. And it had its flaws. Noticable ones. You don't have to like it, but show it a little respect, because Transformers would not exist today without it.
Indeed, big giant slabs of Animated would not exist, as they are direct references/homages/callbacks to G1.

Maybe not, but the answer isn't either side trying to beat the other down. It's remembering what each series has to offer, and who it is intended for, and letting people decide for themselves.
Unfortunately the Geewunners often consider themselves arbiters of what is or is not "acceptable" (as if it was up to them), or just plain having some imagined seniority. That's the bit that should be railed against, not the series itself (beyond your own personal preference for the shows, anyway).

In TFA, the structure is one Magnus (Latin for "great": Ultra Magnus), there are multiple Primes (Optimus, Sentinel, Rodimus, Longarm, etc), and there are Minors below that (Sentinel Minor, etc).
The approximate equivalents would probably be General, Captain and Sergeant.

@lucariolord12 Actually, in the previous episode (Megatron Rising parts 1 and 2) there was snow and hence within the episode it's still "winter" just no snow on the ground. Then again,this show does take place in about 2108 so it shouldn't be too surprising that weather patterns aren't what people are used to though yes, Sentinel should have chosen a different alternate mode anyways.

While the original G1 toys originated in several Japanese toylines, the Transformers characters, story and mythology originated entirely in the US.
My point about the toy franchise was that the cartoon is there purely to support the toyline, and both are naturally and correctly aimed first and foremost at kids.

Well yeah, if you consider that it only got good after they had sgone about halfway through it. Oh and let's not forget what they did to Starscream: They turned him into a whiny little weeaboo who only wanted Megatron to respect him. It took them three series to get his personality right (in Cybertron).
The americans got Starscream right in the very first episode. As well as most of the other characters.
Seriously, TFA is pure fanservice, Yet people whine about it not being G1 or Japanese.
