Recently I heard my neighbour listening to this song & had no idea who was playing, The music flew through my window & made me love it. The day after I met my neighbour in the lobby & asked him about the author. Here I am now, stupefied & amazed <3
The opening of this song would make a nice audio answer to the question, What does metal fatigue sound like? From a musical standpoint, when this album came out in the mid 1980s I'm sure more than a few people had at least a mild case of Heavy Metal fatigue. I searched for "Allan Holdsworth" on google recently and checked the News section. Among the items: An obituary for Gordon Beck and a tribute to Randy Rhoads. Not many musicians span the range between those two musical greats.
I read an article about Holdsworth in Guitar Player Magazine and went out and bought all the albums I could.I had never heard any of his stuff, just went by the article.
I've always been into metal and jazz,so this was the perfect combination.I also bought a Allan Holdsworth songbook.
I never try to play the songs though,I just look through it and just sit back and analyze his brilliance.
i show this song to my friends and the reaction is 50% think that the music that they are listening are shit and 50% thinks WTF is this?... either it blow your mind or it takes you beyond of the sound there are in this galaxy
meh, i still think shawn lane is the greatest guitarist of all time, but holdsworth is way up there imo. it's nothing worth arguing over. allan was a huge influence on shawn after all.
@NathanSnyder13 Fuck off retard...only a brain dead person like you can think Zappa had any knowledhe of fusion and jazz harmony.and fuck off with poison.
@NathanSnyder13 Wow you're not really smart, aren't you. Zappa is Zappa, and Holdsworth is Holdsworth. Zappa defined Holdsworth as the "most interesting guitarist on the planet" though. Holdsworth is transcendental and intergalactic, little man. He's a guitarists's guitarist. And Jeff Berlin is or was one of the greatest bass players ever. One of the greatest bass solos is to be found on "road games". You have a long way to go dude, seriously.
@NathanSnyder13 No, no, you got it all wrong. Just take it easy. It's not about the music - it's about you having a bullshit attitude. It's ok though, you're not alone. Now go back to your boring classic rock you listen to all day, and don't mention Zappa again.
@NathanSnyder13 here I am thinking I would get to listen to a few guys play some tunes and I find true greatness in your awesome phrase. Thanks for giving my life true meaning. ;-)
YES! Finally some AH that doesn't sound identical to all other AH! (Oops... I meant just the beginning part.) I like AH when he's surprising me, and NOT when he's doing Allan Holdsworth 101, which is 99% of his output sadly.
@ratbatblu I think it is a question of intent... if you truly intend to become so occupied by theory and sound and technique as Allan did then that will be your path too... don't give up on yourself that easy! Think about it like this... AH is respected... awesome... but does he have as much money as Britney Spears or Lady Gaga? I doubt it... and can one of the Rolling Stones play this? Hmmm... a conundrum... what's it all about? Well you be you... I'll be me... and I love this track!
@dudemusicspace Oh I love it too! This song is what got me into Holdsworth (as well as reading interviews with EVH and Frank Zappa praising him) in the first place! I picked up Road Games after this, then went backwards to I.O.U., Bruford and U.K. Amazing, amazing guitarist.
@ratbatblu LOL Yeah... he is insanely good... saw him live in London... though I was basically not an experienced enough listener to appreciate him at the time... that's the thing with music and all art... there is some training involved with the taste... hence why things have devolved to how they are today so often.
@SirJamestheIII The harmoniser intervals seem to be set up to sound like (surprise!!) the sound of a metal structure gradually collapsing do to (wait for it...........)Metal Fatigue.Tah Dah!
Dem harmonics...

When I was in music college, I learned the solo to Devil Take the Hindmost on my electric violin. I was in love with this album.
