I'm sooooooo glad to see this video up it gives me beyond amazing joy and excitement to be a music therapist! I'm planning to major in it in college and be one and it's just so beautiful how you can help those with music. I have a little brother with autism and I want to help people like him and more in the future!
I got major goosebumps watching this video! I work with Alzheimer's and Autism and I want to become a Music Therapist more than I can put in to words. I've wanted to become a m.t. from the age of 16 or 17. Music has helped me through things and I want to give back to people what music has done for me
First of all....not all children/people with autism are savants and not all savants are musical...there are other types...and NONE OF THEM ARE IDIOTS!!!!!! Idiot savant is quite an outdated term. Joshua doesn't seem to be savant, although he does seem to have a great musical connection and ability to hear and play, what this video illustrated was not savant behavior (savants usually are shown playing sonatas and other larger difficult works. This is not to discount Joshua at all he is amazing.
Marisa sure made improvements, and I hope she is still doing so.
It was cruel of people to say that Marisa and Joshua were hopeless.
I've had similar encounters like that when I was little. Also, I used to get upset at the drop of a hat. Now I'm a grown woman, and I think music is the best thing that happened to me.
