These specific mantles are old, probably from the 1960's or 1970's (the price tag on them was about 25 cents!) But as I understand it, they made thorium doped mantles up into the late 80's/early 90's or so. It is really no worry, so long as you do not ingest them or sleep with them under your pillow. When you replace one on your lamp (the old or the new type) always wash your hands before you eat. (which your mom always said to do anyway)
