Could be. I was down in the nave with the recording equipment and did not see the exact registration. There is a floating Bombarde Division on this organ with 16-8-4 En Chamades and Tubas so it could have also been a tuba coupled with a Diapason.
But I am referring to how this is not part of a typical organist's repertoire. I think it goes very well with the unique architecture of this church, also in how Scarlatti is the pride of many classical Spanish musicians today.
Many of the original pipes of a 4-manual pipe organ are still in the chambers (six chambers), and the Swell openings have boarded, but the pipes are not buried. The organ fell into disrepair in the late 50's and early 60's, and has not been in use for 4 decades.
Several of the ranks have been sold off or discarded, and the remainder are badly damaged and the windchests are falling apart due to many roof leaks and hurricanes over the years. The old console was removed when a 4-rank Moeller replaced it.
Holy Name of Jesus (the other Jesuit church of New Orleans) claims that HNJ's first church had the organ from Immaculate Conception installed. However, records indicate that the original HNJ had an A. Cavaile Coll (WOW!!!) organ. When HNJ's first church went into storage, it later became Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Westwego. The organ there has some Cavaile Coll pipes, but after many additions and screw-ups the organ is now a "mutt". You can read about this at neworleanschurches(dot)com
I can see this church from my apartment window and enjoy listening to the bells every day at 6pm. We turn off all tv, music, and conversation to listen.

thanks for the info. sometimes i wonder what church would be like if the reformation never happened. in some ways i understand martin luther's argument with the church of his day, but i wonder if it could have been dealt with differently??
this is, quite possibly, the only church in the world with moorish revival architecture

This is certainly a strange song for organ.

Not at all... Many of the Scarlatti Sonatas work marvelously on the organ.

Indeed. I have played them.

this church's architecture was deeply influenced by the Morrish. I live in nola and sometimes go here, it's nice.

Is it true that the original organ and/or pipes are literally buried inside walls of this church? Please clarify.

How sad. Reminds me of the Boardwalk Hall organ in Atlantic City.
By the way, do you know the fate of the Solo Stentorphone rank?

Nice rendition of the K.159. It is true that many of the Scarlatti Sonatas work marvelously on the organ, as shown here.
Cheers.

A nice sounding organ. I am curious what happened to the Moller organ that was there?
TeDeum20 4 years ago
The 4-rank Moller was sold to an individual for a residence organ.

The Jesuits are a Catholic order of brothers who teach traditional values and Catholic ways. They have VERY good schools.
