Interestingly enough my ex bought the cd for me the day it was released. Peter Gabriel was one of the things that brought us together and saw me through the end. Completely POWERFUL!
Not really, but I think the instrumental version was made for the film. The original song perfortmed in the 90's was a lot different compared to the one in the album.
Peter is great about bringing world music into the popular consciousness. MANY people owe their careers to his vision and access. He has been doing this for so many years, I have lost count of the great musicians and singers he introduced over the years.
sadly the singer from pakistan nusrat fateh ali khan is no longer with us otherwise can u imagine him being there. so nice of sir peter gabriel to still remember him this way.

This song is probably one of the most poignant songs EVER for me-- symbolizes something that happened to me years ago and I've survived. If I had to choose ten songs to set my life thusfar to, this would DEFINATELY be one. It is THE most breathtaking song I have ever heard in all my life.

No it was first written and performed in the mid '90's. Then it appeared on PG album UP and the GONY soundtrack in '02.
