Holy crap! That's incredible! I love how much thought's gone into matching the visuals with the lyrics, as well as some of the in-gags and puns along the way.
this is amazing man! my favorite band since milliontown, too bad the level of detail is too high to publish as one level >.< nice work! i shall mention it to their new drummer, if he doesnt know already, i'm lucky enough to be one of his students lol ;-)
@drummer4thefreaks Thanks man. I don't know if Blunders has seen it...if he did his homework before getting the gig then I hope he has! Say "hi from Pedro" for me when you see him. You're learning from one of the best.
Thanks for that. Frost* (the band) love it - but getting permission from Sony/MediaMolecule to use it in an official promotional thing is a different matter.
i pick up on a few more really clever jokes every time i watch this. just noticed "Cell Yaw Stocking Cello Side" as the first "Sell your stock in Jealouscide" goes by and "Car Pet Hides(as in animal hides) the Gilt E Duster" and then on to the scale for "Weigh" for "Carpet hides the guilty dust away"
very clever, very nice work! i'm quite sure i haven't discovered all of the goodies yet. i'm impressed with how much Frost* goodness you packed in!
@furiouscake LOL Thanks so much for that. I love it when people spot the Frost*ie details in there. When I'd finished it I listed all the Frost*ies "in" jokes/references in a blog - it took a while! All the best. Pedro
@MrT808T Sorry, it's not a playable level - waay to big (several thermometers full) and waay too "unfriendly" for players. Thanks for commenting though. :o) Can't wait to see what LBP2 can do like this.
The mirror is actually just a round hole in the thin plane. I had two identical SackBoys and ran them past the hole at the same time. A sneaky edit at the end of the run back again covers the switch of costume for the pumpkin-head in the "mirror".
@cassybug1 Hi, sorry for the delay in replying. No, it's not playable. It's actually several separate bits and I didn't make any of it "safe" so it's really too easy to die and get stuck. Sorry. Next time. :o)
@SevenIHL Thanks very much for that. It's amazing to me that it is almost 2 years to the day from when I first started the project. I'm really looking forward to Little Big Planet 2 - the potential to make something amazing is immense. Now, if I could just win the lottery and give up the day job! :o)
@HaileyHeartsU Thanks very much. I am beginning to wonder how I found the time(!). I have wnated to do a few more since that one but I just can't find the time now...real life doesn't half get in the way!! :o)
The guitarist (John Mitchell) is just a collection of bits bolted together with the right materials where friction was a problem (e.g. glass guitar neck) and careful placement of linkages etc. He started life much bigger & moved even more convincingly (more in time with the solo, correct fretting, etc)...then I realised the camera couldn't fit him in! D'oh! So I had to scale right down and make some compromises to get it to still move at all....
@nationofcreationclan ...I got the shapes right by making photo stickers of the component parts (guitar body, neck etc.) stamping them onto blocks of material and then cutting away the excess. It is roughly a scale replica of a Cort guitar, the brand favoured by John.
As for the keyboard, it is actually a fully working player piano! The "punch card" behind the keys has hidden proximity switches on it that trigger each key and a sound item that is set to play the right note. I worked out...
@nationofcreationclan ...how to play the solo on a real keyboard, positioned the proximity switches on the "punch card" and got the vertical speed of the card right (which proved tricky due to the accelleration effects) so that the actual thing played the right tune in time with the music(!). Then all I had to do was run SackBoy over the keys at the right time, avoiding him landing on a key that would launch him into the air! It took hours but I think it was worth it. :o)
@legogo100 Hi, Thanks for commenting, really appreciate it. :o)
It's all done with beer and mirrors!
Actually, if you mean the "mirror" bit, it's actually a hole in the thin plane and I controlled two identically "dressed" sackboys for the run past and back. Then I cut to a second clip with the back sackboy dressed as pumpkin-head. Thanks to the synced animation of sackboys and the repeatable camera motion, it worked like a charm. :o)
@Bobinti LOL Loads of times! It was just too easy to die or miss a grab or forget to change expressions... I lost count of the number of re-takes for some bits of it! :o)
Someone sent me a link to this vid a while back because of Little Big Planet.
It is brilliantly done, but also it was the first time I'd ever heard of Frost*. The song stuck in my mind for an age before I found it again and looked up the album on Spotify. Now I just can't get enough of this amazing band.
So thanks for an awesome vid and for introducing me to Frost*, one of the best bands I've heard in the many years.
Every single time I watch this video I am utterly blown away by how incredibly smart and subtle it is. A work of fecking art - its as if Einstein was a lift-operator... genius on every level.
@ianmario809 Sorry, no, this is not a playable level. The video was cut together from a number of fairly full thermometers-worth of stuff. All of it was very unsuitable for "playing" with death or deadlock very close if you stray off the "happy path".
I remember favouriting this video after reading about it in Official Playstation Magazine. They were in awe of how brilliant this level was, and i'm sure they still are - just like I am.
Cleanliness is next to Godfreyness! Genius! I've seen this at least 20 times and I notice something new everytime I watch it....I know, I'm a little slow
I had hoped for a nomination in the recent 'Sackies' awards but it didn't happen :o( but I did get a crown and I was in one of the PS magazines last year so I can't really complain. :o)
Sorry, no, it's not uploaded as a playable level - it's rather large and spread over a few pretty full thermometers plus it's waaay to easy to die cos it wasn't designed to be played.
I used the EyeToy camera (the old manual focus camera from the PS2 days which is strangely much better than the newer higher-res PS3 camera) to create photo stickers in the game. It's a bit tricky to get them lined-up properly but with practice you can get some pretty good results.
