This song isn't really 'sad' though. It's a very intimate and progressive song because it plays on minors and majors in the melodies. The thing is talking about how much it could be sad, but then he did get to spend time with that person, etc. It's almost the very root of emo love songs lol. Love this tune. I found Jim Croce as a kid--my favorite song was Bad Bad Leroy Brown. I got his album and discovered I loved all his songs. Then I found out about the plane crash and couldn't believe life could be so cruel to take away such an amazing talent. If anyone put their heart and soul into their music, it was Jim Croce.

My brother died in a motorcycle accident on Oct. 2007 at 30 years old. He looks very similiar to Jim Croce Son when he was little. My brother was born in 1977.
