Why doesn't that hawk just put that dove out of it's misery, and kil it before it eats! Poor pigeon! pluck it's feathers one at a time makes it worse!
I don't understand why people have a problem with someone filming this? It's just nature!!!
I'm sat in my garden watching Swifts catching flies ALIVE! Should I intervene?
Oh my god! A Black Bird has just eaten a worm ALIVE! Poor worm. Oh no, what's that? It's a cat! OMG it's eaten the Black Bird! Where's my dog off to? Marley NO! Leave the cat! Oh dear. Poor cat.
How could you watch the pigeons die you@#$%^&#$%.
I have about 70 pigeons and if a hawk comes near, I scream on the top of my lungs so it goes away and you film the whole thing without even helping the pigeons. I mean if the hawk was eating it dead ok, but HE WAS EATING IT ALIVE! Cruel to animals! Yeah nature is nature, but if I saw a hawk eating a LIVE pigeons I would shoo it away. It's common sense you $@#%$.
@racingpigeons98 Shooing the hawk away will not save the pigeon (it has almost certainly sustained internal injuries when it's caught, and if not its puncture wounds from talons will become infected) and could result in both birds dying slow, painful deaths: one from injury/infection and one from starvation. Unlike falcons (usually), hawks eat their prey alive. Hawks are still just as entitled to life. This pigeon couldn't escape the hawk and would have been eaten eventually. Welcome to nature.
@Chinchillazilla54 I understand, but it least dont film. Yes nature is nature and their are so many other worse problems than this so it doesnt even matter, its probably dead anyway. Just 2 days ago a hawk caught my pigeon and i saved it and its alive.
This is disgusting, i nearly cried when i watched this. I dont understand how you could not save the poor bird before it got eaten alive, let alone stand there and watch it die. Whats wrong with people. Im not saying i love pigeons but there is no way i could on stood there and not tried to save it.

Also, since it was left wounded by the predator who seems to of decided not to finish its food, you should have saved it or killed it. It was obvious from the beginning that the predator would not be able to kill a food source of that size. You should respect the animal enough and humanely put it down, or take it in and post a "FOUND" sign, it could very well be a pet.

@decoymans -]. Well nature is nature but, I really doubt the pigeon said to this Hawk "Hey I sacrafice my body for your Dinner, I'll lay calm so you can eat me" I think the pigeon was too wet to fly and too weak to fight back it was probably thinking, when is it getting off me. The pigeon probably can't scream anyway, there's just nothing it could have done but let the hawk get on with it .[-
Amazing footage and well done capturing it, I'd like to think I would have done the same but I'm a real underdog person I think out of instinct I would have scared the hawk of. Not saying that would be the right thing to do, nature should take its course with these things.
good work dont listen to the other faggots...its not enuf they cry about people hunting next it will be exterminate all preditors!!! so the.....pigeon,s can live lol fuck as if thers not enuf of the stinking things!!
@boaraxa You dont need to be a faggot to have a point of view! Whether you think pigeons are stinking or not, they have just as much right to life as any hawk! AND by the way, if you are american - or english, you are only alive because the "stinking pigeons" helped us win the war, so dont slag them off, if it were not for them we would either not be here or would have very different possibly opressed life styles!!
@lynnemcmorgan i gess your rite your not a fag your a cock the pigeons won the war geta grip i dear ya to say that to the old war vets lol shure the smelly shitting pigeons carried a few messages but won the war get real.
@boaraxa OPEN YOUR EYES YOU NASTY PIECE OF WORK! I wrote they HELPED us win the war, and Im sure the vets would agree that they did help a great deal. Its you that wants to get real, and not be so nasty and aggressive in your comments!
I am all for nature, but because these birds are protected too many other birds are suffering. Hawk attacks are being seen more and more often in peoples back gardens. I have lost 3 doves in the last month to them, and what can I do to protect my pets - nothing! I dont want to see the hawks hurt, but if we let nature take its true course and stop protecting them, we will see more beautiful doves and songbirds about - they deserve a fair crack at life too!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
your a sick twat, you could of atleast scared the sparrow hawk away so the dove had a chance to live, instead you record it for 7 minutes, and i read some of the other comment about it being nature.... well it isnt because in one of the comments you said you had to kill it yourself because the sparrow hawk didnt!!! hardly nature you stupid twat!!!! :@
Im sorry you find the video offensive but you must not go looking for things like this on you tube if you dont like it, the title is quite clear, Sparrowhawk eating Dove / Pigeon alive! I found it a sorry thing myself when I took the footage but who am I to interfear with what the hawk would of done if I wasnt there anyway? All I did was film nature and that is all, at least I was able to finish the birds misory, and give the opertunity for others to see this event unfold like I did.
@decoymans don't listen to that guy i understand him not liking watching a living creature suffer but you would of been a bigger asshole for interfering because that could of been the meal the hawk needed to survive. anyways, i'm glad to hear though that you finished the bird off afterwards i would of done the same thing. Weird though as it may be that dove did not look at all like it was in pain. No struggling or making loud noises or nothing. In fact, it decided to take a shit during it.
@adamf7252 Hi, decoymans actually did a decent thing by putting the dove out of its misery, this is indeed nature you are watching here. When the likes of David Attenborough are filming chimps ripping smaller monkeys apart does he scare them off ? Id say no! I dont even think they would finish one off as indeed it is nature at work Peace
@adamf7252 I totally agree with you. All the raptors and birds of prey who are hungry and wants to eat should starve to death or convert to vegetarians.
Did you ever watch what People do to animals when they cut them into burgers?Did you ever see how foxes loose their fur?by human hand?Go and find some footage. After you see all of the crap WE do to animals, you'd be happy to see a wild and proud creature killing only to keep him and his chicks alive. They don't kill for money or wealth like us.
Not nice to watch but it is nature. Saw the same thing happen back in 2004, a Sparrowhawk ponced on a Dove in our back garden and raked its claws through the Dove's stomach (well thats what it looked like from what I saw)
Both me and my parents witnessed it. The Sparrowhawk then flew off leaving the Dove in the throes of death, after a minute or so the Sparrowhawk returned for his kill and took off with the body. The whole scene shook me a bit.
We all know that nature is very cruel, but as far as I am concerned, I would have spoiled that sparrowhawk's meal. Until I saw this I used to think that hawks would first decapitate their prey. I take exception to the statement that the pigeon was not in distress. She is seen fighting for her life until she is too weak to do that. I would have chased -perhaps killed, too- the damned hawk without second thoughts...
this is nature correct but if local councils are actually, unaturally breeding these sparrowhawks by putting up breeding boxes in all the towns around the country then before we know it all the little song birds and hedgerow birds have no chance and will be gone for good as i dont see the councils giving them the same chance. At least people now know what the councils are doing with our money. Give all birds a chance dont put your money in the collection boxes
and when the country is saturated in these killers, then you will have no wild birds left for your children or grand children to see ,,,think about it,,,,the rspb breed them for release,,,so where is it just raW NATURE ONLY,,,,????
a female sparrowhawk will catch a pigion and it will last her 3 days if she hides it away from predators returning the next day to the carcase, she will only catch 3 a day when she has young.
she will survive on 2.5 small birds per day
and there is a lot ot tit size birds in a pigion kill.
once the carcase is light enough to carry she will place it in a fork of a tree so its safe from ground predators.
its weird how the dove at one point just stops fighting and almost acts like it doesnt feel anything or care anymore. i mean if i were a dove i would at least tried pecking him or something!
Doves can't really fight back when they fall prey to hawks. They just try, unsuccessfully, to get rid of the hawk's powerful talons. This poor bird was just too weak after been pierced so many times... We can also fall prey to sharks, bears, lions, etc...
I agree with ThlnTrm. Are people that out of touch with reality in life? Do they think the sparrowhawk gets its meat from the grocery market too? C'mon people, this is raw nature and one of the most beautiful spectacles in life.
sparrowhawks need's to kill 3 doves a day to survive he's massive apetite , I wish I could just kill the bird and finish his painful life. he won't survive the attack!
After reading the comments to this video, something's painfully clear to me now--too many people are out of touch with what nature is really like.
They seem to think that wild animals live in happy harmony with one another, like Bambi ... Then they get all upset when they see how cruel nature really is.
More "animal rights" activists need to see videos like these. Maybe then they would stop clamoring for all pets and companion/working animals to be "freed from humans."
thintrm ,for anyone to watch that type of film and then condem viloence in the streets then its no won der society is the way it is ,maybe its raw nature but it has taken a SICKO to film it
@ThInTrM i agree with u 100%. this is raw nature no different than a cat catching a mouse at home and yet people applaud that type of action.animals will hunt for their food when ever need be. fact is, i have absolutely no use nor need for these so called activists that know shit about half of what they're talking about. i think they only want to be in some kind of picture and on t.v. i know, i will get response on this post no doubt. i will tell them the same thing. be real, this is raw nature.
it made me cry when the pigeon looked straight into the camera and then the head slowly digressed.
The pideon, given to his fate, must have lot of pain.. It is cruel. But nature. But being eaten alive is wrong. Sparrowhawk doesn't even cared that his prey was still alive.
Very hard for me to watch stuff like this, even though of course, the Sparrowhawk needs, as has been said, to eat and cannot go down to the shops to buy a packet of food like us humans.
What I find interesting is that the Dove at a certain point, gives in to it's fate and seems to be dealing with itself being eaten - almost as though it has blocked out the pain and is not feeling anything.
Also, 'nice' to see that the Dove wasn't killed in that moment (and hope it survived the attack).
Nice film feel bad for the dove, but feel good for the falcon. I don't care what people say this is NATURE people. The falcon can't go into Mcdonald's and order a number 7 with a small coke like we can.
NEVER NEVER EVER enterfere with NATURE!!!!!!!!! Let it play its course and admire the power and hunting abilty of the Falcon. ITS ONLY DOING WHAT IT WAS BORN TO DO!!!!!
That's what the pigeon thought, too! Motto: " Never Believe Your Own Propaganda". Oh, & it's 'Peregrine Falcon', btw, addictedjun.,, which is the fastest predator to fly in a straight line, either horizontally or vertically. But uses up lots of energy. Sparrowhawks are cleverer: they hide in a nearby tree, like a cat, & fly-very-quickly/pounce on their victims at high speed on their short wings when the victim's back's turned.
why didnt you stop the hawk from killing this helpless dove im a pigeon fancier and we have are birds ripped apart like this all the time and its soul destroying when your bird returns home with a big hole in its back or even reported dead
lol GOD IS LOVING because if he would not let this happen , then each animal would produce neverending times and we wouldnt be able to live on earth...
I just saw this outside my cottage! I thought it was 2 pigeons mating! So i looked it up here. It was same as this vid!. The sparrow hawk flew off with the dove. It was still alive. Poor bugger
I think the pigeon was suffering just on the iniciation of the fight, because then its body made a lot of endorfin, witch came the pain down.
Specially pigeons do it like that. I think so, because once I saw a pigeon hit by the bus (its body was squeezed but neck and head were OK) and the bird was as calm as the pigeon on this vid.
Hi there i'm put my two cents in, if you dont mind.
I have had pigeons for a long time know and man o man. I can tell you i have lost some beautiful birds in my time, and expensive.birds at that. I have two questions though. Y didnt you stop it? and when that P O S finished eating , did you go to help the pigeon or leave him to die?
As I have said time and time again, all I did was film what nature provided, it was his meal after all, Oh and I killed what was left of the pigeon as the falcon had left after scenting me, I might add I love nature in all its forms, if I had of saved the pigeon from this the falcon would of had his meal else ware and not on screen as some of you enjoy or not. I am sorry if this offends but this is how it is.
yes I killed it afterwards, we don't run after a lions meal and kill it for him do we, it is just that on TV they don't show you the bits you don't like to see, BUT I DO I don't interfere with nature it looks after itself in my book. I don't take pride in watching things being eaten alive either.
this is incredible! i cant belive the dove stayed alive for all that. and why the helll have the last three comments been thumbed down for gods sake?! the people who think this is cruel need to get a grip and realise that this is all part of life. good on you for filming it. stoping this would have been the wrong thing to do.
I am a falconer and im not sickened by the sight, because its NATURE.If it was one of my birds on the dove i would have dispatched it but because they are wild birds i wouldnt disturb them.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yes i fully understand this happens in the wild. It is still in my opinion wrong that you would rather record and exploit it than put the bird out of its misery. You got the chance to see it and i know myself the adrenaline pumping its great, you got to enjoy it. I still feel you should have dispatched the bird not record it. Believe me the sparrowhawk would not have starved to death it would have simply found something else whether alone or not. u were there and vid should have ended diferently
Yes OK I could of killed the Dove , then the hawk would of flown away without his meal and kill some were else, all I did was film what he was doing what he does every day, I am not a bad person only one that watches nature at work. I am sorry if it hurts people to watch this but you are warned in the title Sparrowhawk eating Dove / Pigeon alive best not to view it in the first place.
How would you feel if someone dispatched you from your Cheeseburger when you're hungry? That's how nature takes its course.. When you're arguing over this, there could be like another 100 pigeons eaten alive.. So just live with it..
Why doesn't that hawk just put that dove out of it's misery, and kil it before it eats! Poor pigeon! pluck it's feathers one at a time makes it worse!

All I did was film nature and that is all, at least I was able to finish the birds misory, and give the opertunity for others to see this event unfold like I did.
decoymans 1 year ago 21

TheBigfishcatcher01 1 year ago
We all know that nature is very cruel, but as far as I am concerned, I would have spoiled that sparrowhawk's meal. Until I saw this I used to think that hawks would first decapitate their prey. I take exception to the statement that the pigeon was not in distress. She is seen fighting for her life until she is too weak to do that. I would have chased -perhaps killed, too- the damned hawk without second thoughts...
Raydel75 2 years ago
Why would you do that? And why is the hawk "damned"?

@Raydel75. Why? Imagine next time your in Macdonalds gettin a burger, some freakin huge dude comes in an scares you out? Its just eatin dude.

this is nature correct but if local councils are actually, unaturally breeding these sparrowhawks by putting up breeding boxes in all the towns around the country then before we know it all the little song birds and hedgerow birds have no chance and will be gone for good as i dont see the councils giving them the same chance. At least people now know what the councils are doing with our money. Give all birds a chance dont put your money in the collection boxes
1SKPN 2 years ago
and when the country is saturated in these killers, then you will have no wild birds left for your children or grand children to see ,,,think about it,,,,the rspb breed them for release,,,so where is it just raW NATURE ONLY,,,,????

hi joy5710
a female sparrowhawk will catch a pigion and it will last her 3 days if she hides it away from predators returning the next day to the carcase, she will only catch 3 a day when she has young.
she will survive on 2.5 small birds per day
and there is a lot ot tit size birds in a pigion kill.
once the carcase is light enough to carry she will place it in a fork of a tree so its safe from ground predators.

Doves can't really fight back when they fall prey to hawks. They just try, unsuccessfully, to get rid of the hawk's powerful talons. This poor bird was just too weak after been pierced so many times... We can also fall prey to sharks, bears, lions, etc...

sparrowhawks need's to kill 3 doves a day to survive he's massive apetite , I wish I could just kill the bird and finish his painful life. he won't survive the attack!
joy5710 2 years ago
After reading the comments to this video, something's painfully clear to me now--too many people are out of touch with what nature is really like.
They seem to think that wild animals live in happy harmony with one another, like Bambi ... Then they get all upset when they see how cruel nature really is.
More "animal rights" activists need to see videos like these. Maybe then they would stop clamoring for all pets and companion/working animals to be "freed from humans."

it made me cry when the pigeon looked straight into the camera and then the head slowly digressed.
The pideon, given to his fate, must have lot of pain.. It is cruel. But nature. But being eaten alive is wrong. Sparrowhawk doesn't even cared that his prey was still alive.
That's why i'd love to shoot this bird.
Nonetheless 5 stars
GreenyCookie 2 years ago
which bird? It would be illegal to shoot the sparrowhawk. If you did shoot the sparrowhawk I hope you get caught, prosecuted and locked up.
The sparrowhawk isn't being cruel! And of course it doesn't care that its prey was still alive - it is an animal and can't care!
As a predator it is doing what predators have evolved to do - eat their prey!
EdinburghSparrowhawk 2 years ago 6
@GreenyCookie, nonetheless, I'll shoot you.
TheFalconryFan 1 year ago
Very hard for me to watch stuff like this, even though of course, the Sparrowhawk needs, as has been said, to eat and cannot go down to the shops to buy a packet of food like us humans.
What I find interesting is that the Dove at a certain point, gives in to it's fate and seems to be dealing with itself being eaten - almost as though it has blocked out the pain and is not feeling anything.
Also, 'nice' to see that the Dove wasn't killed in that moment (and hope it survived the attack).
Jez2008UK 2 years ago
Oh and another 5 stars for the Dove because he fought hard.

i thought when doves/pigeons fly they can dodge the fastest predatory bird the perigine falcon
addictedjun 2 years ago
That's what the pigeon thought, too! Motto: " Never Believe Your Own Propaganda". Oh, & it's 'Peregrine Falcon', btw, addictedjun.,, which is the fastest predator to fly in a straight line, either horizontally or vertically. But uses up lots of energy. Sparrowhawks are cleverer: they hide in a nearby tree, like a cat, & fly-very-quickly/pounce on their victims at high speed on their short wings when the victim's back's turned.

i have to wonder if birds are even capable of feeling pain
freakhyena 2 years ago
I think the pigeon was suffering just on the iniciation of the fight, because then its body made a lot of endorfin, witch came the pain down.
Specially pigeons do it like that. I think so, because once I saw a pigeon hit by the bus (its body was squeezed but neck and head were OK) and the bird was as calm as the pigeon on this vid.

I have had pigeons for a long time know and man o man. I can tell you i have lost some beautiful birds in my time, and expensive.birds at that. I have two questions though. Y didnt you stop it? and when that P O S finished eating , did you go to help the pigeon or leave him to die?
Maxzarlasht 2 years ago
As I have said time and time again, all I did was film what nature provided, it was his meal after all, Oh and I killed what was left of the pigeon as the falcon had left after scenting me, I might add I love nature in all its forms, if I had of saved the pigeon from this the falcon would of had his meal else ware and not on screen as some of you enjoy or not. I am sorry if this offends but this is how it is.

Believe me the sparrowhawk would not have starved to death it would have simply found something else whether alone or not. u were there and vid should have ended diferently
sakergoddess 3 years ago
Yes OK I could of killed the Dove , then the hawk would of flown away without his meal and kill some were else, all I did was film what he was doing what he does every day, I am not a bad person only one that watches nature at work. I am sorry if it hurts people to watch this but you are warned in the title Sparrowhawk eating Dove / Pigeon alive best not to view it in the first place.
