Never could understand how they failed to include this on an album (yes album - state of the art when this was composed). But at least they put out on EP. This one has been referred to as Steve's fair well...if that is true - what a way to go!
Look up the phrase "One of a Kind" in a Phrase Dictionary and you'll find this song post!!! Thank you very much for posting this! You won't hear this live song in this quality anywhere else!
Whoaaa. I've never heard this live version!! This is such a great song, often overlooked, underappreciated, even by the band itself! Thank you for posting this, really... THANK YOU!!
@Giputti, c'ero anch'io ed è stata una delle esperienze multisensoriali più belle della mia vita...nonostante il casino per entrare....anch'io comprai dopo il concerto ( o prima non ricordo ) ma non l'ho trovato più!
JUST A CORRECTION, this track is part of the official CD named as ''Match of The Day'' with only three tracks, this one plus ''Pidgeons" and ''Match Of The Day''.
Io c'ero....ricordo l'atmosfera strana...ascoltare un brano dei Genesis sconosciuto ( ho comprato il 45 giri dopo il concerto) e il finale grandioso ...tipicamente Genesis....
I went to Hawaii and sat in the sand on Wai Ki Ki at night looking at the ocean with this song blasting in my ears on my mp3 player. I had it on "repeat" with a bottle of rum. I'll never forget that moment
Thanks so much for sharing this fresh take on a lost gem. As so often, the live version of mid-era Genesis tunes take on a higher level of playing and energy where Phil takes off. Killer iconic solos from Steve and Tony. The ending is another "whoa" moment. Love it!!
great memories when Genesis where in an era of transition, if only Banks was not so stubborn and realised he was part of a team and not the leader of it.

It's a damn shame this song wasn't on Wind and Wuthering instead of on the Spot the Pigeon EP, which never got a proper re-release until the box sets came out.
They played it on the show they did at my home town (Porto Alegre - Brazil) on may 16 1977. The crowd applauded when Tony and Mike sang the backing vocal parts, cheered with Phil and Steve shinning through the instrumental and the Gigantinho Arena trembled at the end of the song. It was the 4th song of the playlist, after Sqonk, One For The Vine and Robbery Assault, as I recall.
inside and out was released on the rare 3 track album spot the pidgin but the album was originally released in the uk only. to find the album now its still a special order.
inside and out was released on an album only released in the uk called spot the pigeon. i was a rare 3 song album that was released in 1977. awesome song and album for that matter.
Great Song. Thanks for this as it was my first Genesis Concert I attended. Didn't remember that the boys where playing it. By the way, it got also released as an EP with 'Spot the Pigeon' and 'Match of the Day' in 1978 as a. bright blue vinyl. I own it
The blue vinyl release was a Canadian import. The Atlantic domestic release was standard black. I've 1 of each. Never knew they ever performed Inside and Out live tho. Cheers!
