Peter seems to be a very good instructor! Wish I lived closer to him, I'd take some lessons. But Peter? We can't hear you man! Get a mic closer to your mouth, you have a lot of good things to say!
dude, you should listen to the video and what is said, like how there are MANY ways to slap and thank g*d it doesn't sound like vic or marcus, too many clones out there as it is.
and maybe he's going for more of a kiss my ass tone than a butter tone... butter.... jeeez
Bad Idea to tell people to mostly use their arm. especially beginners. It's like a drummer who uses his wrist and forearms for rolls and single stroke rolls. Use your wrists and forearms. I guarantee that will give flexibility and speed. Not a hater here.
I have been playing bass for many years and his style of slap is good for people who play with their bass pretty low..but most pros play with the bass very high and bend their arm using more of the wrist motion with the thumb upwards. This gives you a faster and more compact slap and pop.
Hey man, I dunno what all these idiots are going on about you being 1) an 'amateur' and 2) wrong about using your arm for slap. You obviously know your exercises and technique (that C major exercise says it all) and lots of good players use their arm in slap playing, including flea, Bill Dickens and even wooten to some extent. I certainly learned from this vid!
thanks a lot, glad you dug the gig and also thanks for the kind words. as for the haters... ;) hey, everyone is entitled to their opinions no matter how flaky
ok ok sry man. but i go for the mark king style where the arm dosent move much at all. but i suppose your right if you were youre bass at what most peps would call normal height, any way great vids man. ps any chance of reviewing the ebs evolution 210 I got one and its by far the best cab ive tried. The last cab i had was an eden 210 and it aint nothing on the ebs. also love to have look at the yamaha bbt500h. peace
i'll try to track an EBS cab down, and thanks for the input. as for the Mark king style, now I see where you're coming from and ya 'normal height' ;P hehehe
so peter, ive been learning slap for 6-7 months now and i suck. i can't get my pops to match my slaps, i play a 5 but have no use for the b, and its messing up my slap control, and my pop is way to loud any suggsetions?
keep your stick on the ice, but don't get it stuck (or skate over it). -Elliott

Part of it is the amp he's using, the PJB Briefcase and he's using something with actives.
I like the clarity of PJB's in a band setting but alone they dont sound quite as good =/

Practice makes permanent not perfect dude! I'd rather learn the full right technique than practicing the wrong way and developing bad habits!

what!? it's all on the wrist and fingers not the whole arm, unless you're a cave man.

ug, me cave man.
you feel free to use only your wrist and fingers for slapping and I'll do what I do... mmkay?
ovrdrvn 4 years ago
sry man that lesson teaches bad technique it comes from the wrist
canvoodoo 4 years ago
listen to the intro of the video... "for as many bassists as there are out there..."
also, how about we agree to disagree, I really don't feel that it comes from the wrist alone.
thanks for watching though.

well, from one bozo to another, thanks for your opinion now where can I see your non-amateur slap stylings so as to better myself?
ovrdrvn 5 years ago
This guy's a bozo. He's an amateur slapper trying to teach others how to do it wrong.

Go Petey go! Thanks for doing that - good to see nagging finally pays off ;) But I have to ask - WHERE'S THE BONGO? :)

ya, ya, hehehe, we had a new Z4 come in and really... that bass does play itself especially whilst 'spankin' the plank'
hehehehehehe
ovrdrvn 5 years ago
"spanking the plank" DID make the other half giggle... don't know why - daft guitarists ;)
well it looks easy enough but practising it on the weekend after i've got my bass set up will be... erm... interesting! wish me luck lol
