A lot of Europeans are sometimes (not always) cynical about the US... In my opinion this is what makes the States a great country... high school guys being introduced to bossa, jazz.... no, it wasn't great but I really enjoyed listening to these guys, so well done to them. And hats off to the drummer and percussionist.
@thepurplebottIe that statement is not true for for bossa. It's doesn't really matter whether it's electric or upright (probably a little bit better if it's electric b/c of a sharper sound.)
@thepurplebottIe I love the upright bass but it's not the ONLY way to go for "jazz". Part of what makes jazz great is the freedom that it allows it's players to have. There is no right way or wrong way to play a jazz chart. If someone wants to play an upright, great! If someone feels that they can best render the song on electric, that's also great! and just to add to the fire; I would would personally play this piece with this group on an electric upright bass!
Sounds like a high school band, i love the amazing intonation. WOW. I think this piece is best played in combos. But w/e, couple of kids having fun and thats what its about
Jazz is believed to be the origin of bossa nova, so bossa could be said to be more of a Latin American subgenre of jazz rather than completely it's own thing. After you've experimented with many songs and feels you can see how all the word "jazz" by itself is just a huge collection of styles, all smooth, clean, and involving improv about the same instruments.
i don't like this as a big band arrangement... i played with my friends. Me on piano, then friends on tenor, trombone, tenor, drums, and bass :D (it was still a bit big though, but the other tenor praactically begged to be in our combo)
i played this with a smaller ensable and with this size of band you cant realy hear the interaction of the first and second melody but it sounds ok for a high school band. an bones please work on tone quality as well as breathing i picked you out because im a trombone player. and soloist please try different ranges you dont have to do a triple g but from f to f would be fine.
This is the Mark Taylor arrangment of Blue Bossa. My jazz band just played it, but at a faster tempo. But I like the way this band plays this. LOVE THE DRUM SOLO!!!
why are they using sheets? its only 8 chords
