People need to remember that even the famous musicians are still musicians and prone to making mistakes in live performances. Honestly though, if you make mistakes when performing live, that just gives that performance a little something extra, a little bit of humanization not present on a recording, and the fact that Paul can just brush it off and continue the rest of the song just fine makes me admire that.
I kind of have a feeling he was mixing it up a bit, but also a strong change it was a bit of a slip up--I'm on the fence. Either way, still sounds great. And, yeah, the outro would've been a really nice addition.
Everyone needs to stop talking about how Paul messed up or whatever...he does an amazing job on this song. Oh no, his voice squeaked! Get over it...voices can't be controlled as easily as instruments, especially with added nerves. Fans are supposed to support their artist, not make fun of him. So leave him alone, please. He's absolutely incredible.
lol, your support of the guy is really cute. I agree, honestly. I admit I came to discover these guys this january. I know, where have I been? but well, never too late. I first heard them w/ Rest My Chemistry...knocked me dead, those guys. one of the main reasons I went crazy for these guys was precisely Paul's voice. it's a weird, not-so-pleasant-to-the-ear type voice...but I LOVE it. it's perfect for the music they make. in a nutshell, I'm so glad there's this live performance by them :D
@Musicgirl44444: yes, and just because someone laughs at his voice cracking doesn't mean they're insulting them, so there's no reason to get so ticket about it.
Lol, yes, 0:37 was kinda embarrassing. They are a good band, the lead singer just always sounds out of tune in live performances. What I love about this song is that you have to be a hardcore fan of Interpol to like it or even understand it. I'm assuming most people in the audience (including Letterman) weren't big Interpol fans, so this performance seemed like crap to them.
What a tune . A prefer it live

jejeje... Paul screw it twice in the same "PAST" part, or was a new arrangement?
Anyway I like this Letterman version of the early Interpol... without the boring outro part
