There is a difference. The latter of the 2 is a hospital used predominantly for tuberculosis patients. Sanitarium is more or less an insane asylum.

This is one of the best scary movies I have ever seen. I freakin' love it. While it didn't scare me to the point of peeing my pants, afraid of the dark, need someone to be with me at all times, can't sleep for hours or anything like that, it was definitely awesome and I am just the kind of person who isn't scared easily. It was an awesome movie and I loved it. :)

The history of the place is I agree very scary...but come on people the movie is not by any means scary, not even remotely...it's a predictable stab at trying to make a scary movie and fails, like a lot of scary movies miserably...I've honestly come to the conclusion that no movie can give me that "can't-fall-asleep-for-at-leas­t-3-days-never-gona-be-alone-i­n-the dark-again-i-think-i-just-peed­-my-pants" feeling....nice try though...

The kind that can hurt you, but only very rarely, are called poltergeists, which move objects or throw them. And yes, some spirits are actually murderers or rapists. Also, if a spirit passes through you, you sometimes develop their emotions, like overhwleming sadness or rage.

its not really, five girls put in a huge hospital/asylum for TB sufferers, they said that there were ghost of the people that died of TB and the ghosts of the nurses/ morgue workers, the nurses sometimes didnt do their best to save those who had TB and left the hospital ( afraid of getting TB) and there was one doctor that ended up being locked into the hospital when it closed down, meaning he died along with the res of the unfairly abandoned sufferers, he was mad and haunted the building
