  • lol, is it sad that all I'm thinking is that the lyrics sound like something straight out of an old country song...lol

  • The best version yet' thanks for posting.

  • what are the words on the picture?

  • the picture is of a woman dress in a long black veil kneeling by the surf! Dah!

  • Best version ever.

  • Mick's voice is so well-suited for this song :)

  • What is that picture doing there?

  • @TheDonaldido im not sure maybe its just pointless like your comment!

  • @lindsey197631 Pointless? I beleive not. What does Folk/Irish music have to do with weird girls dressed in black and some random text on it?

  • @TheDonaldido it has nothing to do with hun....i wanted the song for another website and found youtube was sadly lacking this genius song so uploaded it next to a random picture i happened to like so i could use the audio....i guess thats the beauty of youtube, things dont have to mean things and be relevant to anything...its just people putting things on that they like and if someone chooses to listen or watch too then thats great, if they dont then thats good too:) have a good day:)

  • @lindsey197631 she's holding a black veil.. it makes sense to me

  • @TheDonaldido Even I was surprised by the uploader's hostility to your rather normal question.

  • That is lovely

  • i remember my dad singing this song when was a kid, it wasn't until i was older than i understood. but now im glad i know.

  • My respect for Jagger just rocketed!

  • Only Lefty Frizzel can sing this song. It should be illegal for anybody else to sing it.

  • @johnrambo55555 aaahhh... a musical Nazi... guess one was bound to appear,,,walks the hills with a bright red swastika....lol

  • @mccurryburg Oh my God dude I was jokin.

  • I'm am young and I love the Chieftains and this album!

  • This was the first CD we bought Kids now grown CD keeps missing? They never borrowed any other CD. Chieftains and Jagger still got it!

  • sad true but so moving

  • SWEEEEET love this ballard sad but so moving.....also try jagger with peter tosh

  • so freaking SAD. Just love it.

  • @GreenRad2012 yup sad but so moving..try jagger with peter tosh....u tube

  • @GreenRad2012 yup but so moving

  • she doesn't seem to be walking really.

  • but is it better than the johnny cash version i have my doubts

  • Nice artwork used for the Video - Does anyone know the artist?

  • same melody as the band's version

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • where the hell r u people this is the best

  • great version of this song

  • Love this version.

  • love it love it

  • One would think this song was written for Mick

  • This song sounds Elizabethan, but was written in 1959. Mick can deliver a country song without making fun of it. This Chieftains album has other aging roosters from the British Isles, singing the dickens (another Brit, come to think of it) out of some folk / country material. Tom Jones and Tennessee Waltz, for example.

  • This is such an amazingly beautiful and haunting version of this song!!! Love it!!

  • It's always interesting when Mick uses his 'hick' voice, like in far away eyes etc.

  • i always did think it sounded a heck of alot like mick.

  • Best version i think of this song.

Its the most heart felt in my opinion, love the pic aswel. as for a deeper meaning, i don't think it needs 1

  • very beautiful and lovely version, Mick does it with class

  • i always thought mick jagger was not really a singer by nature, more an entertainer , in many of his songs he does not really sing, but more or less recites the lyrics. nevertheless he does a fine job here, very good!

  • if you can't tell that the accent is american and not irish...you are missing something, and if you can't pick out mick jaggers very very famous voice...you need to listen to more rolling stones

  • He'd rather die than publically humiliate his best friend. He already privately betrayed him....

  • I have always thought that the point is that he would rather die than publicly humiliate, and destroy the life of the woman he loved

  • Interesting, I thought I'd have to go hunting for my comment and it's only a few below yours. Your comment makes sense too. Good song, I sang it in a couple late night sing songs in Ireland 1996.

  • i love this song but alot of people don,t know thats mick jagger singing it,if you have the long black veil cas, tape it tells, even tom jone & other big name singer are all singing.

  • A wonderul song of unspoken and undying love.

  • this is actually mick jagger with the chieftains playing.

  • @Mr1Stargazer uhhhhh....and deceit and shame. i think those are the real themes of the song.

  • @acrucialdood /agree
