@TheDonaldido it has nothing to do with hun....i wanted the song for another website and found youtube was sadly lacking this genius song so uploaded it next to a random picture i happened to like so i could use the audio....i guess thats the beauty of youtube, things dont have to mean things and be relevant to anything...its just people putting things on that they like and if someone chooses to listen or watch too then thats great, if they dont then thats good too:) have a good day:)
This song sounds Elizabethan, but was written in 1959. Mick can deliver a country song without making fun of it. This Chieftains album has other aging roosters from the British Isles, singing the dickens (another Brit, come to think of it) out of some folk / country material. Tom Jones and Tennessee Waltz, for example.
i always thought mick jagger was not really a singer by nature, more an entertainer , in many of his songs he does not really sing, but more or less recites the lyrics. nevertheless he does a fine job here, very good!
if you can't tell that the accent is american and not irish...you are missing something, and if you can't pick out mick jaggers very very famous voice...you need to listen to more rolling stones
Interesting, I thought I'd have to go hunting for my comment and it's only a few below yours. Your comment makes sense too. Good song, I sang it in a couple late night sing songs in Ireland 1996.
i love this song but alot of people don,t know thats mick jagger singing it,if you have the long black veil cas, tape it tells, even tom jone & other big name singer are all singing.
lol, is it sad that all I'm thinking is that the lyrics sound like something straight out of an old country song...lol

@lindsey197631 Pointless? I beleive not. What does Folk/Irish music have to do with weird girls dressed in black and some random text on it?

@TheDonaldido Even I was surprised by the uploader's hostility to your rather normal question.

Only Lefty Frizzel can sing this song. It should be illegal for anybody else to sing it.

He'd rather die than publically humiliate his best friend. He already privately betrayed him....

I have always thought that the point is that he would rather die than publicly humiliate, and destroy the life of the woman he loved
