  • Very hard to understand. I need a basic class,

  • Its very good presentation on Android Architecture.

  • I loved this video!!please post more videos on android for newbies like me....

  • Wow. Ikaw na talaga, kayo na talaga. This is so informative and comprehensive.

  • damn its realy hard to follow him at some points.

  • Are the red boxes what are called the "root"? What is rooting and why is it a problem?

  • @L00kng correct me if i am wrong , but the red boxes are the kernel. kernel connects the hardware .its the first layer of an operating system. root i think is above that where /opt /dev and etc directories are there . when u dont have root u cant access to these and thus u cant control ur device completely . Plz someone respond to me if i made any mistakes :P

  • 240p <3

  • hmm what does this mean!!!! i like android apple is not legit

  • blablablabalbal

  • I was waiting for him to mention Chrome coz it uses webkit too.. then realized it wasn't made yet.

  • We hit it off so well after another visit busizz4me.info

  • Excellent video. Nice presentation.

  • short version is that virtual machines are known computer science

  • The subtitles seem perfect, did they actually manually write that, or is it all automatically generated by youtube (software)? or maybe generated then revised by humans

  • @TheXV22 They are man-made. If you press CC you can select "transcribe audio". Audio subs work well, though

  • I am wondering why they are using low quality? God's sake!!

  • @atarikguney - Maybe because it was uploaded back in 2007?

  • ok, at 10:40 when he talks about the pick photo, you know how in html all you have to do is create a link between the two and it would get the photo from the gallery to gmail, is he saying that for this to work in android, that you have to create the building block for intentreciever and do everything from their...

  • Couldn't those videos be in higher resolution?

  • Hey, that not Picasso, but Picasa.. lol

  • hahahahahahaha!!!! On transcribing audio in English, at 00:39 it says "we use a latex condom that's our program for action where" :D

  • if u put on transcribe audio at 00:39 it says "we use a latex condom that's our program for action where" lol

  • (via transcribed audio) DEX files = X-FILES

  • (via transcribed audio) kernel = colonel

    LOLMAO!

  • Objective C vs. Java ...

  • (Via Transcribed Audio) Linux Kernel=Latex Condom

  • @gawbagecan that's f-ing hilarious!!

  • Very nice Overview !!! Keep posting android videos.

  • Good overview! :-)

  • There are strange errors in the subtitles, the person who added the subtitles was obviously somebody who has no clue what the video is about...

  • Very concise and effective presentation!

  • I know that I am really late with these comments, as apparently some of the information is obsolete now, but (a) I'm so glad I watched this, because maybe I'll soon be able to understand Android enough to write my own application, and (b) at 9:42 THE LECTOR POINTS TO *HIS* LEFT, OUR RIGHT! Teeheehahahaha!!

Anyway, I already have two application ideas, and watching this makes me understand it's possible and very easy to do! Thank you, Android! ^_^

  • but how concretely android linux kernel interact with framework layer...through libraries i suppose but what are the technical steps that occure in order to do that???

  • wit can the G1 play .jar and .jad

  • YAY linux phone

  • What about Java!!??

  • This was posted in Nov 2007. The layer where he mentions C and C++ is now Java. The native libraries layer. Java compiles to dalvik instead of bytecode.

  • Ah . yah. Next time I'll watch the whole video. He mentions Java a couple times, but Java is in the applications framework layer and the applications layer. oops. Native libraries could still be C.

  • dalvik VM is not reading a standard bytecode? :o

  • Right. When talking Android just replace bytecode with 'dalvik'. Also no .class files, its .dex.

  • Comment removed

  • java and xml.. didn't technology advance the last few years?..

  • Just like IP has stood the test of time, and will for many years to come, Java and XML have matured and are now very, very ready for very, very prime time over the coming decade+.

IP + Java + XML are the critical pillars of the evolving Web.

  • Yes, thanks to Java and XML.

  • somebody know.....When the Gphone in Mexico is commercialized??

    thanks.

  • gostaria de receber informações em Português (BRASIL)

  • Android is very promising. It's only the beginning and it will become better like in any Linux distro. It's funny that we now have AGAIN 3 platforms but in phones. Apple, M$ and Linux. But unlike M$ that has some standards and Apple that has only one piece of hardware to worry about, android is a more difficult project to deal with, since it is geared to run in as many hardware variations as possible. So we have to give the android team and Google some credit for a great engineering effort.

  • What about Symbian? Looks promising, if they really do open Symbian as well. Then we have two open platforms for mobile phones. I think the more the merrier. Possibly even a fusion of the two since they are both open.

  • UUU Yeah, I luv the 21st century I luv it I luv it!!!

  • dont we all my frien? dont we all?

  • You're probably able to use it for development. See, even this presentation seems to be made in Apple Keynote.

  • I was going to buy an iPhone.

I think I'm going to wait.

  • @osakanone best choice

  • @osakanone dont buy it they just want our money

  • is this free

  • I think so

  • cool

  • It is called open source for a reason.

  • well if something is open source than you can compile it for yourself and it will be free....

  • You can compile anything yourself, doesn't makit free.

  • What are you talking about? It's Open source, that means you are allowed to see all of the code put into making the OS and from that you can compile it so it's exactly what they distribute, the only thing that will cost is the MOTHER FUCKING Service . . . But the OS is free

  • What a heck are you yelling at?

There is another meaning to "free", on that is older than "opensource".

  • Sorry, ignore last comment.

  • WoW! taht is something really amazing! cant wait for the first prototype to hi the market! Keep it coming GOOGLE!

  • this is going to be amazing!!! just hope the multi touch android is not to expensive :)

  • so when is Android gonna be on commercial cellphones?

  • Once we get this ported to the processor I help develop, we shall RULE THE WORLD!

  • What? Urr...

  • It looks and sounds promising, but at this juncture, I remain skeptical.

  • MFCrow:

It's "Chick Dig Unix" and it's funny cause of the double entendre from the statement when said aloud. :-P

  • Well done..Super..you what? I admire you guys.. At the place where I live(not the country of course, in a much smaller distinct) there are couple peoples what a OpenSource means... Since these sort of projects r the ones which'll eventually bring up more investment, I don't expect more, though..But in any way I'll give a trial to get into the way through this.. cheers..

  • Mentira, estan durmiendo como piticli.

  • am not going to believe that android is completely open source until they release the whole code base...

NOTE: we have only the SDK available as of now..

  • Hey, Man. Just watching the video, and he explain something about how Linux 2.6 Kernel works. Nothing new, but i'm really excited they starts to do OpenSource Mobile OS. Nice case of study. And please -.- spamming about "Android" name, is not this video's topic.

From Wikipedia: "An android is a robot designed to resemble a human, usually both in appearance and behavior.". Nor sexualism nor "Hamburger". Please, read b4 write :P

  • Good thing they named it Android.

  • Why not you're looking too far into things. People are retarded and don't know that andr- means man. But if I wanted to be a dick about, who is doing all these info videos? Who put the majority of work into it? Who will be putting most of the work into it? Who will be buying it? Men, men, men, and, uh, men.

Also, GYNAIKOID and ANTHROPOID are terrible product names.

  • ANDROID too.If you have not any idea about the humanistic sciences and the culture you can give names like ANDROID to the next vegeterian Hamburger.

    android = ANDREIKELON

  • I'm going to be honest with you. I have no idea wtf you are talking about.

  • Mesa wants Androids now.

  • why not use a fail driver instead of a win driver

  • He has an Apple remote controller :) Google uses Macs. The presentation theme looks exactly like a Keynote theme.

  • actually they use google ubuntu... a ubuntu tweak for google ;)

  • *drool*

  • Chicks Dig Linux

  • This is awesome ! Any info on minimum requirements ?

  • good one i like

  • pretty neat... im downloading the sdk as i watch these videos... was this presentation made using keynote? it looks so much like apple's presentations... lol...

  • fascinating!

  • Interesting. Might give a think about developing for Android in my final year project.

  • For Mobile phones java already proven his power, just take a look at the many applications and games that are being made for them.

The java langauge isnt that much slower to C++ and its library for mobile phones is very extended.

  • every real dev is aware of the limiations of Java

  • Good developers should be proficient in more than a single language and know about the respective strengths and weaknesses of their tools of choice.

As for Java, speed compared to C/C++ - as the last two comments imply - has not been an issue for a long time, given the many optimizations to compilers and VM implementations.

  • Look, no JVM has ever been comparable to native speed on constrained mobile devices, Creme, J9, etc are all slow and buggy. You are thinking of full blow desktop JVms, here its different.

  • 10:00 "Replacing and Reusing Components"

This part is amazing. it cuts up android apps into interchangeable parts. a distributed application platform.
