I love my 1000h, besides its compact size and power (well not that really powerful, but it works great) it handles pretty much everything I throw at it, it syncs with my phone help me with all the documents I need and play all my music and videos (up to 720p). for someone whose studying like me, this is a great mini-notebook. Pricey though but well worth it. I don't use windows xp that was shipped with it though, makes it sluggish so I installed a lightwieght linux on it and upgraded RAM and HDD
The 901 boots up faster than the 1000H because it has a SDD, and the 1000H doesn't. The computers have the same specifications, but the 1000H has a bigger screen..
Don't assume people always think that a bigger number is better.
What's there to love about XP? There's nothing to love about it, it's just that Linux has less mainstream appeal. Linux has lots more features, but you need to get into the command-line to enable most of it.
Though I do agree that XP is superior in most ways than Linux, I think it would be more professional for you to say "XP is wayyyy better than Linux" or even "Linux sux!"
I've heard that phrase around the comments, but it really sounds like something a child would say, versus something an adult, obviously what you are since you are watching and comprehending this vidoe, would say.
The SSD in the Eee series are designed mainly to cut costs and increase durability, and so have slower write speeds than more expensive SSDs. Plus, I think the SSDs in the Eee connect with a mini-PCIe connector versus SATA. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I actually prefer the 901 to the 1000s. The 1000s are larger and the point of the eeepc is it's miniature size. They cost about the same as a much faster 15' laptop so why bother with a larger eee pc?
Nice comparison between HDD and SSD, since 1000H and 901 have both the same hardware. Apparently this whole "SSDs are faster" story is bogus. Even though, no moving parts is the way to go.
its cause they use crap ssd. i ran a benchmark on my 901.. 28mb/s average.. and on the secondary 8gb ssd, it was 24mb/s average. There are much faster SSD... but most hdd probably perform better then these ssd.

I believe the number system is to do with screen size; ie 700 would mean 7"; 800 = 8"; 900 = 9"; 1000 = 10" etc.
I have had a 700 (cant remember exact version) has 2Gb SSD but only 7" screen. I now have a 1005ha which is a 10" screen.

28 Seconds for Linux yeah. But Linux is dog turd. XP is the best out there.
peaps 3 years ago
Oh noes! I have a dog turd installed on my PC's!
At least it's solid.
Going along with the analogy XP is an infectious pesticidal spray of diarrhea, and Vista is bloated constipation.
I prefer my dog turd, thank you.

It's local slang round here, for meaning something isn't very good. Dog Turd. Or, if you really want to convey the point: Dog Shit.

HHD is obsolete. SD is whats coming.
eventually we'll all laugh in hindsight at HHD as we do at tape-deck players vs Ipod (...iriver is better.)

Absolutely. You need to dial in to a provider to connect to the internet.

Yes, the HDD is impressive
but I should say the SSD of 901 is no good~~~
(it just my unit has problem, I found other 901 has a better Read & Write speed)

which eee pc would u recommend for a first yr university student? 901 or 1000H? thanks
lowBpigpig 3 years ago
It depends, they both work and do all your stuff but, I would recommend the 1000 for its larger battery capacity and its larger screen.
ExperimentalArmy 3 years ago
I would recommend 1000H as it's large HDD and keyboard. As a student, larger laptop is more important than light-travel unit. :)

Could you also test if you could install autodesk autocad 2008/2009 on eee PC? I hope to find out...

sorry, our testing units are returned to ASUS.
but what I know is Autocad should be no problem but of course, a little bit slow

I also like the 901 for its smaller size, I really wish it had the option for the 2.5" 80gb HDD like the 1000 series. : (

try to search "How to add more storage to Asus Eee PC 901" in youtube or google. You will find the good stuff from JKK.
but the HDD is 1.8"
Enjoy :)

I also make HDTune on 1000H too....I could say 1000H is similar to or a bit better than 901....
