Let me restate that. The hand-off from Bolt to Asafa was the second best, the 1st-2nd baton flip was the best. However, Bolt kicked late and the 2nd leg almost ran him over, forcing him to run a LONGER leg then Asafa had to. I still believe Bolt is faster until Asafa proves otherwise. A long stride always looks slower than it really is.
Watching the video numerous times, stopping it at the hand-offs over and over, I believe Bolt ran the quickest leg. Obviously what the official times are holds, but from what I see Bolt's leg brought them into WR time, and Asafa held onto it at the end. The reason Asafa's leg was the fastest WITH the baton is because Bolt to Asafa's handoff was BY FAR the best one out of the three. In other words, Asafa had to run the SHORTEST leg of all of them.
I am happy that Asafa got this opportunity to anchor and performed so well, because prior to this, he performed below expectations and he seemed very down about it. This kind of turn the tides and gave him new inspiration to keep pushing and reminded him of his potential. Big up to Asafa and the Bolt.
why is usain bolt the 3rd runner? it makes no sense, not only he is the fastest, but he is the tallest. In my opinion he should have been 2nd or last, but not 3rd!
@sisoiyo i think because the 3 rd its the most important and difficult part of the race.
when i did the 4x100 the fastest guy on my team was too on the 3rd and the coach justified that by saying that was the most important part. srry about my english
Dude my 8th grade relay runs the 100 in 40.07. the record at our school is 38.45 ????? this relay has to be faster. Casuse im pretty sure were not that fast lol. we do always take first though. unless we drop it
@esquimalt1 After the first leg the rest are from a flying start so when they recive the baton there already at 90% of there top speed rather than starting from blocks at 0% and building up speed from there. The splits were,
Wonder what Powells top speed was in this leg and how ir compared to Usains in his WR 100m and 200m top speed. Powell really looked like he was flying here.
Yeah I know mate - I was just wondering about top end speed as in MPH compared to Usain top end. I read Usain hit something like 27.2 Mph in the 100m record but think that Asafa wouldn't be far off that here. Shame he can't do it when he is actually running against Usain....
true. dats Asafa 4 u. He doesnt like pressure. He runs better when there's less competition like he experienced in this race. he needs to work on his mind game n concentration. if Tyson Gay was rite wit him, he def would have capitulated n run a an awful race!
at the end of the race after powell comes in first, the other racers cross the line after him and if u look closley you'll see usain bolt it looks like he took 3 or four steps a cross the screen 1:36 . he has a long ass stride but it looks like he's skipping lol.
USAIN PUT OUT SO DID POWELL i liked fraters leg the most he really showed strength and power look at bolt he was behind most runners but not powell powell to quick for bolt lol !
Hey why is this comment minus, if USA was there it would have been a closer more exciting race instead of just a rout. I'd rather see them get pushed all the way then win by 10+ metres.

if Yohan Blake was in this race, I have a feeling they would've run a sub 37 sec relay

i think Bolt was still quite a bit faster cos he passed the batton quite late to asafa so he ran a bit of his leg too.

new WR this year maybe?

powell only ever runs well when he has a massive lead like that or the 100m competition he is against is average.
To many times in big races he has not performed and the beijing 100m final is a prime example.
