Looking closer at the video the two profile carrier planes at :48 may have been my dads! They look like a configuration that he flew. I can't tell, maybe you can, but his AMA # was 2831. I can see it is a digit # and the last # looks like a"1".I see it says "NAVY" on the left wing.
@machstang70 Thanks for the comment. I wish these old 8mm films were higher definition, but they are what i got. Glad to know they brought back a few memories for you. My son and i enjoyed flying this event in those years and it was always a good feeling to do a good flight and land well.

Great video !! My dad, my brother, and I were there that year! We drove from L.I. NY. My dad flew profile carrier and my brother and I flew fast and slow combat. I still have stickers, sew on patch and a plaque from the event and souvenir cup. My dad did some timing in carrier too. Thanks for the memories. Mike Tufano in VA.
@machstang70 Glad you could enjoy those memories. All the flyers that flew carrier knew that meeting the challenge of high and low speeds and a decent landing did not come easy. I hope the event maintains enough interest to stay on the contest schedules. Thanks for your comment.
Great atmosphere, we in UK were getting interested then. There has been a revival, if you search youtube for "CarrierUK.mp4" you will find what we Brits were doing in 2004. Keep the faith, and keep your feet dry!
@nigelch Enjoyed your video. A great combination of full scale and model action. This model event is a real challenge as is landing a real plane on a carrier. Glad there arel some people still flying this event.
Great clip of the 1976 Nats at Wright Paterson field. Last year carrier was flown under the old rules. If I remember correctly we has a total of 120 entries in the 3 classes. My Dad ran one circle, I was the event director and ran the other one. Constant action over 3 days.
Thanks for watching, wish i had saved more.
