I always get taken back to that Christmas when I hear a song from this album. But, I fell in love with this song then, so this song really takes me back to that Christmas:)

  • what type o crap is that lil wayne is no match

  • Every classic hip hop video has multiple Lil Wayne related comments.

  • Can we stop pretending that Lil Wayne is anything other than hot garbage?

Stop referencing him when true hip-hop is present.

  • 0:00 diggy

  • The best album of the 90's. Hands down.

  • This one is dedicated to all the FAKE ASS BITCHES out there...

  • Epic just Epic...... the beat is Awesome....

  • This beat is chillness.

It sucks that alternative rap never fully made its mark on mainstream music in the 90's.

Putting jazz into hip hop when it comes to the beat is just an amazing thing, nothing can come close to atcq, de la soul, digable planets, etc.

  • Shaheed out did himself with this beat.

  • @Noops89 q-tip made the beats first 3 albums it was revealed in the movie

  • Gotta love the samples, man!: Weather Report's "Young & Fine" and Gary Bartz's "Gentle Smiles (Saxy)"

  • Tsk Tsk another Lil Wayne reference is the top comment

  • @grisson1 It's a Young Money one now actually

  • @grisson1 hopefully ur comment wont be voted up enough to be on top...

  • @grisson1 You are severaly underthinking the importance of environment upon one's thoughts. Just think about it

  • @grisson1 thats what you are though?

  • @darbyblake Yupp i guess so.

  • @grisson1 And Yet another one.......... oh... shit

  • @grisson1 Whats ironic is now yours is the top comment and it's a lil wayne referance. :)

  • USED 2 LOVE EM, LEAVE EM, SKEEZE EM, TEASE EM, FIND EM, LOSE EM, ALSO ABUSE EM...

  • phife had:

    tonia

    tameeka

    sharon

    karen

    tina

    stacy

    julie

    tracy

  • @jalees Haha, that was actually kind of funny! lol

  • I had this on a mixtape I made back when....

    killed niggaz with this one

  • hip hop didnt get worse it just changed.Tribe called quest is my favorite group hands down.but us sayin the new school is whack is just like the people who listened to run dmc sayin that this is wack.I personally like all hiphop new and old.i just understand that its changing and will continue to change just like rock Rand B and every other genre.O yea and Lil wayne is a beast....dont hate

  • Weather Report samples are great, love it.

  • @manjishkardam no doubt, but don't forget about the Gary Bartz loop on the chorus...

  • I've been a huge rock fan my whole life. I never really got into hip hop until my friend showed me all of the old school groups like Run-DMC, Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, etc. The bass in this in really hypnotic. Its fucking awesome

  • i listened to this maybe 1000x back in the day. jesus. definitive!

  • Good song

  • Slum Village sampled Phife saying "Slum village" here on verse two, they threw it at the end of their intro to Vol. 2

  • @RTistic yup, 2:24

  • god im 14

i wish i had a time machine i feel like i missed out on a decade of absolutely amazing hip hop

  • Comment removed

  • @mixmaster291 you did

  • It's something about this beat that brings me to a place of peace. It doesn't matter what's going on around me...

  • @lilhavin yea man, complete hypnosis by its beauty

  • Back in '91 i was just a young man tryin to bust a nut...And tribe was my theme music.

  • Comment removed

  • @BeatsBysantinoHope you not up there with my age kid, your comment was-all that and a bag of needles!Tribe,Leaders,De-la,Jungle Bros.,so many more bubbled back then, and still do!!!!Knah Mean!

  • This is one of my absolute favorite songs of all time. Man, is there anything better than throwing on a Tribe album? I've probably played this album literally a thousand times over the last two decades and will never ever get sick of it. Musical perfection.

  • I am older and really never became part of the rap/hip hop crew. However, I really like this type of rap. It is unadulterated and overly Photoshopped so to speak. The beat and the words remind me of the "Last Poets" (back in the day for some of you young folk).

I actually like this. I am surprised!

  • @thelipstickfemme

. . . It is unadulterated and is not overly Photoshopped so to speak . . . .

  • Wanna Hear A Joke??? Young Money!!! LOL

  • @neosouljazz wanna hear a better one>? lil wayne!!!!!!!! LOL

  • @neosouljazz loll trashhh much

  • @neosouljazz XD XD XD

  • MOst hiphop today has a 100% computerized souned. From the voices to the music.Hiphop is hiphop. Its not the flow.Alot of guys got skills that just have songs that sound like spaceship music.Everybody got this star wars as music.its like aliens is in the studio.some new futuristic shit is real good, but music back then just had real instruments it would be a whole different sound.a simple beat ois all hip hop was. They tryna contort it instead of restore it.

  • Im not too big on the lows. But this shit booms. Phife is so dope.

  • @GivenTheOkieDoke Right! I'm listenin like, Phife ain't the illest MC out there, but this dude remains one of my favorites

  • @djsweethots No doubt.

  • boner

  • man the way they tune it down a step each bar is sick as fck :S MAN

  • Comment removed

  • @YoungOldSchoolRapper i agree, but theres not hundreds of other rappers with good albums.

  • i cant believe the highest views on this shit is 33k,im telling you people these days are soo fucking retarded and listen to shit music.Dont even get me started on what is rap/hip-hop nowadays. This is TRUE HIP-HOP,i refuse to listen to all that new school shit.

  • @YoungOldSchoolRapper ok thats your opinion and yes i do know that there are more than those two. i love all of the rappers from that era. and I believe 2pac is the greatest. thats MY opinion

  • I brought me herre.

  • Slum Village...Slum Village...Slum Village...Slum Village...RIP J-Dilla

  • HOLY FUCK

  • I cant stand no bionic lady....word

  • this is buttery...

  • I'm 8

  • MATT MARTIANS BROUGHT ME HERE

  • I'm 14 and I only listen to old school like Tribe. Only for the realest!!!

  • the name of the chick i like is mentioned in this song. lol

  • When this hit dropped I played it for a year straight in my 91 Bronco II. Damn those were the days.

  • maaan, people need to shut the fuck up and be thankful the bomb shit like this ever existed.

  • this is one of the dopest songs from this album. check the rhyme and scenario

  • man damn if people know what hip hop is.wayne and sb are entertainers, and hip hop legends were too. back then lyrics were everything, now its production. if we ever got back to lyrics then the "new school" would keep up and surpass what has already been done. I'm 33 and i grew up durring tribe and krs so ive heard it all. and if we remember that rap is music and actually love what we hear .... then who cares if people remember back in the days..or if the old mc's were better than new mc's .one

  • Weather Report MF's

  • makes me happy

  • Tribe's the coolest mothafucking shit!!!

  • completley agree! im chilling in my mates car and hes got shit on the radio, some pop corny shit that just sounds the same as everything over the last 5 years....im like, yo, put some of this big L or tribe on and just chill the fuck outt....i whack it on and hes like "this is shit" its good to see that i aint the only person whos a teen, who bumps 90s music..

  • @BigL2502 THUMBS UP TO YOU BUDDY.

  • Beats, you speak the truth.IMO,the late '80's to the mid '90's were the "golden age" of hip hop.Long live groups like the Jungle Brothers,PE,Black Sheep,Poor Righteous Teachers.

  • @BeatsBySantino ya know, if ppl would get in the media and start saying that, i bet my bottom dollar that they would start listening to real hip-hop because they are lab rats. they just do what the media tells, and then assume it was their own ideals. i dont even own a tv. cause those muthas know how to mislead and deceive. and i wont let that happen to me.

  • THE UMMAH

    BUSTA RHYMES

  • weather report - young and fine

(listen to the biginning of the song)

  • Just listen to their flow.

  • This was the coldest sh!# ever...

  • it's like butta, it's like butta baby.....thats my jam

  • lil wayne and drake you know they ain't flowin', theyre the headache and we the ibuprofen

  • i heard this on a subway in new york on a boombox (i tell a lie it was an ipod dock styled "boom box" and it always reminds me of the essense of hip hop gritty raw but smooth hip hop

  • I'm loving the raw, dirty beat....real hip-hop.

  • im 15 I Love OldSchool Hip Hop De LA soul And Tribe Called Quest That it Tho Lol....And im Smooth Liike Butta

  • PURE MASTERPIECE

  • One of the best hip hop songs ever! has 14,500 views, such a joke, shud have at least a million views!

  • Strickly Butter babyy :)

  • It's All About The Guns And Butter Baby! You Little Dumb Motherfuckers!

  • Weather Report forever

  • a yoo iamm smooth like butter

  • ''''

  • 20 YEARS OLD AND STILL THE JAM!

  • like butta baby

  • All i gotta say is good rap stems from good producers. Top 5: J DILLA, D.R.E., DJ Khalil, and DJ Muggs. Any1 disagrees, shows how ignorant and tone deaf you are to Hip/Hop not opinion, fact.

  • @xxIVIANEUVERSxx sorry, must disagree. the real top five: DJ Premier (undisputed #1), Pete Rock, Dr. Dre, RZA, and Large Professor.

  • personally i think that kanye iz a better producer than large professor but the rest is on point

  • @mrcruscade i was seconds away, literally, from including kanye over large prof! But i chose large prof because he is sooo underrated, and he was around making beats in the heyday of hip hop, so much of his work was significant. He doesn't get the credit he deserves at all. Kanye is amazing in his own right too, just not quite large prof. But kudos to you, you obviously know what you're talking about!

  • @missdetroit87 u got a point the prof did his thing on illmatic. i jus like to name top ten cuz i feel lyk i hav 2 include evry1 like kanye, q-tip, and the like

  • I use to listen to this type of music until i heard N..W.A. an GETO BOYZ

  • This song was out before I was even thought of, but the style of Phife and Tip is unmatched. Of course they couldn't be them without Shaheed. (bumpin' Award Tour)

  • i see people wearin run dmc or ATCQ t shirts but when i look at their ipod they have weezy or trey songz all on there -___-

  • so what?

  • watch?v=U9rj_RJAbxY

  • A TRIBE CALLED ..BEST..

  • If Tip Got a verse on this WoW but Phife's awesome as well (banging Dilla Beat )

  • @oOViperrrr6Oo This isn't a Dilla beat man, ATCQ produced the entire album and that probably means Q Tip did this.

  • @TheQwerty92x Shaheed and Tip did beats Duh

  • @mufa241 Yeah Ik, I don't know why I never write Shaheed's name, I just always attribute Q-Tip to production because he has a rather large catalog for making beats. This track is timeless.

  • phife nutted in this track

  • I Think lupe is just being true to himself as are most

  • Now get some real appreciation and go listen to Weather Report's song "Young and Fine", the sample for BUTTER.

  • 'I had Tonya, Tameka, Sharon, Karen, Tina, Stacey, Julie, Tracy!!!'

  • People need to stop blaming soulja boy and lil wayne what about the media and the records companies. They demanded the dumbing down of music jigga even said he wants to rhyme like Common Sense look at what their doing to Lupe.

  • @cmtgforever Lupe is on his own shit, he's trying to SAVE Hip-Hop NOT abuse it by telling lies.
