The Vietcong is the americam name for the National Liberation of the South (NLF). It is actually an integral part of the Army of the Vietnamese People. The reason it was treated as a separated entity is for political reason so that the world understand that it is not the consent of the Vietnamese people to keep their country divided beyond 1956. When the country is reunited, naturally, this separate entity disappeared, and all armed forces are consolidated into 1 national military.

Please remember this, what US called Vietcong is National Liberation Field (half blue, half red flag). This is the government formed by the South Vietnamese people and support by the North Vietnam while the ARVN is formed by the US, support by the US and die for the US.

If you call Vietcong is Vietnamese people army, that mean the North Vietnam army has invaded the South (since that is the name of the North Vietnam army at that time).

Hey does during Vietnam War, did the Viet Cong ever like the M16A1, M14, M60, M79, and other infantry weapons? Do they ever have problem with M16 when it come to jamming due to dirt and water?

@XXM1T90XX The M79 was the favourite weapon of all these weapons. Vietnam also used it against the Red Khmer and the chinese in the late 70s. The M16 was only used by female soldiers of the viet cong because they knew how to clean and handle it. The M14 was also like the M79 a popular weapon but only in the 60s. And as for the M60, it was disliked by us.

Dislike M60? What! The M60 was the best. Why didn't Viet Cong and NVA like the M60 is it because too heavy. Plus did the NVA and Viet Cong ever like the M2 Browning Machine Guns. I know today Vietnam People's Army really love the M113A2/A3 today. The M2 is replace by DSKH and mounted on the M113. I also see that the Vietnamese commandos today are using the CAR-15. The CAR-15 was use by Navy Seals, Green Berets, and South Vietnam special forces during the Vietnam War.

I sure wish the US government would have assisted Ho Chi Mihn by expelling the French from Vietnam in the beginning. I believe 58,000 soldiers would had not had to been sacrificed.
