watch?v=_0qmRDLGfog Hi everyone! This is a new electronic band in Slovakia. If you like us you can join us on facebook (H.O.H) there you can know more about us.
@DJSTOV No! 35 can't be old! I'm going to turn 35 tomorrow! Cranes would be unbelievably awesome to see in person, though. The Cure & Depeche Mode definitely were.
I really love this, the feel has a a dark creepy edge to it. I did read the lyrics but am I the only one who doesn't understand what she's saying. Seriously am I the only one. I tried to follow her vocals with the lyrics but just couldn't follow her. Still love it though!
Gorgeous, thanks for posting. I remember going to a signing by Cranes in Glasgow Tower Records shop and about 7 people turned up, which was so frustrating for the band, but all the people at the signing got on the guestlist to their concert that night (September 1991) which was nice... :-) Fantastic band, and her unique voice is so mesmerising.
I adore , absolutely love Cranes. I will see them live in Dublin next week ( 17th of April). Looks like they're going to play only 2 concerts this year : London and Dublin. This is one of my very favourite , beloved groups. Beauty and emotions in their music, her voice , atmosphere..Pure bliss.
wonderful song, great paintings. Allison we share the same taste both in music & art. We' ll be an adorable couple!!! Vagos, Athens, Greece 22-11-1975
The main image I got in my mind from their music was of an open field, with huge gloomy thunder clouds brooding overhead with occasional flashes of lightening, and a lost little girl crying in the wind.
holy moly I forgot about them for 10 years,,,when you start traveling and leave your life behind..you forget..but thank god something triggered my mind...and here I can enjoy them once again, thank you jade4u
Cranes are def one of the interesting bands of the past 30 years. Allison Shaw's vocals, in conjunction with excellent instrumentals, have created a sound and "spirit" that can not be re-created. I can not count how many times I have both disturbed and interested friends and loved ones with the music created by these unique artists...LONG LIVE CRANES!!!
@imaginaryboy238 Cranes opened for The Cure in 1992 for the Wish tour, not 89. Pixies and Love and Rockets were the opening bands in 89 for The Cure for their Disintegration tour. = )
@jflores73 In L.A. at Dodger Stadium Cranes opened the show, followed by: The Pixies, Love and Rockets, and ultimately The Cure. It was the one and only time I've seen them play, I assure you they were there.
@3kisses4me No, you're confusing Cranes with Shelleyan Orphan. I was at the Dodger Statdium show as well and the opening acts were Shelleyan Orphan followed by Pixies then Love & Rockets. Google it. Yeah, I just found them five minutes ago too haha. Wasn't all that keen on 'Beautiful Friend' but I'm really liking this.... can't really make out the lyrics, but whatever she's singing must be pretty awesome! What album should I start with? Well, more to the point, do they even sell Cranes? I've never seen a record of theirs in stores- mainstream or indie. Cheers
As a complete outsider, let me just say that I just discovered this band about five minutes ago, and am blown away. I will definitely buy their music. However, IMO her voice is lacking in note choice, rather than texture, where it works quite well. Sometimes the pitch of her voice is weak. Insanely soulful nevertheless. Love it.
You are totally entitled to think that....for me she's got nor an angelic voice, nor a baby's voice! Her voice is fragile and fits perfectly in the music they made..(or still do make???)
Oyes. Kraalomega just annihilated that one guy via text. An epic win. I don't quite see what the last few sentences did - but they added to the epic factor.
But yeah, Cranes ftw. Am I the only one who thinks the lead singer is beautiful as hell?
What the fuck are you talking about? Bergen Bergen Allswitch? Whats wrong with pink floyd and having a room? You must live in some kind of dome. Go fuck yourself guy.
Where do you think this sort of behaviour will lead? I mean: would you physically attack a poet on a street corner? You dont want to go down this path Larry; it leads to the dark heart of the human condition, Bergen-Belsen, Auswitch. Youve got to understand, you can change.
Your urge to bully and rage against peoples freedom of expression, the abusive language (I wouldnt use the R word again, Larry, honestly that does no one any favours) is just the little boy in you wanting attention.
"definers of a musical sub era that shimmered beneath the conscious of the 80s."
Why are you trying so fucking hard? noone gives a shit about your music critic tirade, noone is impressed. And if you seriously reject dylan on principle, i feel all the more worse for you.
Sorry, your an idiot. This could go on forever but you won't get it. How does something shimmer beneath an era, can you explain this to me? it sounds like pretentious bullshit a teenager would say in a desperate bid for smart points. It doesen't really say anything, its just empty words, from an empty skull.
At first I wanted to retaliate against your tirade, but the more I read the more I could see that this was really just a cry for help. And all the signs are there. Sitting in your room with your Pink Floyd Shirt, listening to Dillon and playing such wonderful tunes. I thought my lack of God, his hearts in the right place, but hes angry (probably with his father) but sometimes it hard to live up to the high standards of ones heroes.
. I want to help you Larry (sorry I dont know your real name, so Larry will have to do) I want to help you Larry. Because youre right Larry, it will go on forever, because Im here for you. And I mean it Larry, I really mean it. I am not the sort of man to leave a fellow pilgrim groping in the dark
they're more in the realm of "severed heads"; a step beyond goth (if such a thing exists ?) definers of a musical sub era that shimmered beneath the conscious of the 80's. I can feel it better than I can describe it. It's a slice of my subconscious, not real at all...
coming from a Dylan fan boy, the words kettle and black leaps to mind in no particular order. I was also unaware that pretension has a smell. But from a man who can smell my shit all the way from the U.S.A. surely nothing is impossible. I bow to your incredible charm and obvious wit.
Loved and Forever are by far the best, and Future Songs will quickly grow on you minus a couple songs. But they're all amazing. If you want a bit of everything, get the EP album.
I would recommend Wings of Joy. That was my first album by them, but I had to buy it as an import, because back then they weren't readily available in Texas.
I did get a momement to meet them in person in a record store where they were making an appearance. I got there late when it wasn't so busy. They signed a poster and photo I still have.
I even got to ask a question of them, "How would you describe your music to yourselves?"
you underestimate early goth music, to me this sounds very goth. it has the the excessive reverb, the industrial/tribal style drums and prefers a melodic guitarline over a rythmic guitarline. i wouldn't say it's a textbook example but their early work is definitively goth
I agree with Thescarydutchman, There were seriously contemplative, internalized, and truly creative folks who simply had an affection or romanticism for darker images, elements and sounds, which better exemplify the term "goth". In the end, it was just a label given to us/them without consent, one which has since been stamped on anything dressed in black that says "boo'. Everyone seeks to define themselves, or even feel like a part of something bigger, but no one really LIKES to be labeled.
I'm loving all this stuff from Wings of Joy. Has to be one of my favorite albums ever. I like Loved and Forever a lot (almost as much), and think Future Songs doesn't get enough credit. But that first album was a masterpiece! Thanks for this.

the music of Cranes is great, the way songs are sung are great except for the actual voice singing them. it gets annoying. sorry. she can sing very well, the melody, the tune, is create, very original, not much like it. but the voice...omg, like a Helium-addict. WTF is she saying? "Sqeeaak Sqeaaakk!"
You know. People who appreciate this song, and the Cranes in general? Just 'get' art. I had Mark Francombe tell me once (back during Loved tour) that it was really easy stuff to play. And much of it is. But the tone and the mood that it sets? Absolute and utter genius. Then Allisons vocals?
Alison Shaw's vocals are haunting. A Passage through the tryptich of the 'Garden of earthly delights'. New Romanticism where one image superimposes the other as if to merge in a virtual contamporaneity whose actual image is the voice who desires and adores.
another throwback to when music meant something... intelligent, challenging, and powerful.

Secondly, there is no tirade and no critic, as clearly I've stated my opinion as being in favour for, not against.
Thirdly, do you think Mr Dylan goes around insulting strangers because they wish to express their positive opinions on public forums ?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
the music of Cranes is great, the way songs are sung are great except for the actual voice singing them. it gets annoying. sorry. she can sing very well, the melody, the tune, is create, very original, not much like it. but the voice...omg, like a Helium-addict.

This is art ...

Geez! I wish she'd go ahead and post her lyrics online! I don't really want to buy the book, but man, I love this CD...

Alison Shaw's vocals are haunting. A Passage through the tryptich of the 'Garden of earthly delights'. New Romanticism where one image superimposes the other as if to merge in a virtual contamporaneity whose actual image is the voice who desires and adores.
