I suggest using plastic and paper bags to do this with. Thats what I use with my cat. That way you dont ruin a pillow case. And as for needing air, even plastic bags work fine because the cat will poke plenty of air holes. Also plastic bags make noise when you touch them, so its more fun for the cat (and for the humans watching)

Its technically possible, but neither my cat nor I are dumb enough tfor her to suffocate. Shes played in plastic bags on her own and with me there countless times for years. The bags dont last long. She shreds them up and then gets out.

Responding to tymiesoe , this actually isn't animal cruelty. If the cat was in any discomfort, it would by trying to get out. Notice how it's tail is moving as the pillowcase is being poked; it thinks it's a game, and is having fun. A pillowcase is completely breathable.
