This quack is placing needles that have not been sterilized with his dirty hands into a non-sterile field. MRSA here we come. This is one of the dozens of things wrong with this "medical" program.
Acupuncture seems like it would be a really good endorphin relieving experience. I think it is somewhat of a pseudoscience however. Its dressed up to look like it is very clinical and everything but usually acupuncture is build around some sort of "chi" balancing BS, which there is no evidence for. I think there could be some good benefits to this treatment on this video. Anyone know of any studies on this method?
Well, much depends on how skilled the practitioner is...and the vast majority are not very skilled, at least in the US..So the question then is: If an acupunture treatment (including research trials) is not shown to be very effective nor conclusive, Does it mean that Acupuncture itself does not work? Or does it mean the practitioner's skill is lacking? As to a Proof of How Acupuncture actually works, Whoever figures out the intricate physiological mechanisms at work would get the Med Nobel Prize
@Arizona4Christ, I'd say that it is more likely the practitioners's issue. I know there are many research publications on acupunture in China. At least here in the US, you will find it very hard to find a reliable source, esp. in the wide-media and even in established academia (little exposure & fund). I can personally attest that Acupuncture works by the Results, I've personally seen it and experienced it (family member practices) I think science hasn't caught up w/it.
@pagielme4ever I don't know if science really needs to catch up to anything. I mean you could easily figure up some sort of test that could show if it truly works, or its some sort of placebo. I do however know that it is a good endorphin relieving thing....however its hard to say that "chi" or anything extra special is at work considering there is no evidence for that either.
Agree: wouldn't simple trial tests be enough to show it works? I think the "Chi" model is a broad description of what is actually happening in the body, while science is in the details. It's just a big picture theory. Science would explain the particular physiological workings. I know a heart surgeon from China who explained that "Chi" is just bioenergy or "ATP". I'm not criticizing the scientific model itself, I'm just saying there are a lot of things left for science to explain. This seems one.
@pagielme4ever Well I mean IDK what ATP would have to do with it, but I don't know tons about what Chi claims to be, but I do know tons about ATP. We have done studies on if in fact the needles being placed in a certain spot makes a difference and we figured out that it didn't. Then we figured out that it didn't have to be needles and it could be the electoral charge we put between peoples hands. I just don't believe in chi if it cannot be demonstrated to exists. Seems like endorphins to me idk.
@Arizona4Christ, "Chi" is simply body's energy or overall bioenergy which the body harnesses from ATP to maintain homeostasis which is not incompatible with molecular biology(Tho TCM purists disagreement is theoretical). In think you are overcomplicating the issue. It's just semantics (& theory)_if it's useful fine, if not chuck it. There is no contradiction. Like I said, results depend on the skill of the practitioner: just poking one spot doesn't do much w/o manipulation. Use message board?
@pagielme4ever I'm just against people making money on placebos like homeopathic for instance. Sure it will work for some people, just as a sugar pill will, but charging people money for nothing...scam. Like Chiropractic for example, all that magical non sense of it curing asthma etc yet no research validate anything besides help with back pain. I think its simply an endorphin releasing experience, which does have benefits, but lets just call it like it is. Not all the unproven chi nonsense.
For sure, I am also against scams out there! I personally know someone who practices acupuncture who happens to be very good at it and it is Not a matter that for some people it works & not others. ALL of the patients (for various conditions) this acupunturist has treated have seen dramatic improvement healthwise & seen their main complaint/s taken care of. We know it works (properly done). We don't know precisely HOW it works.Scientifically we are at Observation/hypothesis stage. message board?
@pagielme4ever What does message board mean? Yes but you have to realize that people get cured from things like sugar pills and faith healing and we do have a good reason why...placebo. Other than a relaxing time that eases stress anything outside of that I'm saying placebo.
@Arizona4Christ Seems you have your mind pretty much made up (as to what to believe). I begin to wonder if you have even bother to read & understand what I wrote previously. These aren't the mere "feel good" placebo effects: I could go into details if we used youtube messages to each other rather than rely on comment threads w/word limit. Few examples include help w/addiction & psychiatric conditions by REDUCING the dosage of the drugs, reducing to eliminating dosage of cholesterol med etc.

You are right arizona4christ..
many tests have already been made and its been proven that it doesn't work as anything more than a stress relieving experience and placebo effect.
There is no such this as chi or bio energy either.
