  • Low angle shots ftw.

  • this music is wonderful.

  • I'm a young liz phair i want to sing indie and alt rock but i'll try to play guitar and the stuff i write is explicit.

  • @DemiLovatoFanSince07

Good for you. I encourage you to listen to Liz Phair, Amanda Palmer, Tori Amos and Sheryl Crowe because your music taste is not so talented and different except for Liz. No offense.

  • the singer is so cute in this video.

  • does any one else hear weird noises in the background (like ribbiting and buzzing etc) or is something wrong with my comp?

  • @starlight1314 no, i hear it too XD

  • @starlight1314 Ha,ha! That's part of the song.

  • @starlight1314 I hear it, too

  • It's: "When they do the double-dutch that's them dancing"

  • "til I write my whole life story on the back of his big brown eyes" - What a lyric

    !!

  • whip smart means avoiding the things that bring on the whip...like doing the double dutch instead of really dancing

  • @glennmt1 - Liz Phair credits Malcom with writing the chorus of this song on the album. Bavis is right - Malcom's Double Dutch was 7 or eight years earlier and is absolutely full of hooks -'when they do the double dutch, that's them dancing' is just one....

  • is that her son at 1:40? i didn't think her son was born that early, but i don't really know

  • Thing is, when I hear that name Whip-Smart that sounds like a song that's going to really rock, but this song doesn't really rock so much. It's alright song, just not as rockin' as the title makes it seem.

  • @philnolan3d I got the opposite idea from the title. Right away I thought it was something like this. I remember hearing it when it came out and thinking "Yep. That's what I thought I was gonna hear. Cute.".

  • i think the next song is Range Life by Pavement

  • Why's the sound quality so crappy?

  • such a hottie

  • i am a fan

  • Boy does this new Youtube comment design suck major balls...

  • I like the way she dances.

  • i wish it were still the 90s

  • range life at 4:08! :)

  • I miss you, Liz. :(

    We miss you.

  • RLW... Liz toured in 2009, the 15 year anniversary of the excellent Exile in Guyville record. Liz played it from start to finish... Had to be one he11 of a show. I saw her in about 1999 or 2000. Loved it.

  • Damn- just went to her website and say the tour dates and assumed it was talking about 2010. Now I'm way bummed.

  • Has she retired from the music business?

  • Lol idk why someone thumbs downed that instead of answering it themselves...

No, she hasn't. She was supposed to release her new CD in the Fall of 2009, but she didn't. I don't know what happened.

  • Ultimate '90s alterna chick! Love this song+.

  • ha ha... you have no taste and are worthless as your uneducated opinion. LOL

  • afraid I agree after seeing people's comments, sounds like utter crap, pure mediocrity.

  • can i please her?

  • can i please be her?

  • Can i please be with her?

  • "i wanna be donna summer but i bet she doesn't wanna be me"

  • Session Americana does it better.

  • I wish should would have taken that dress off.

  • This video is sooo 1995, in the best way possible.

  • Looks a lot like a Pumpkins video.

  • Too bad more girls are into that type of music these days!

  • man evertime i hear it its like the first time...you cant be down to this song!!!

  • Liz, if you are reading this: please be mine - I'll only let you down once, and I'll then learn my lesson. You rock. Thanks for the music.

  • kick ass song, sound quality sucks though

  • OH MAN ! the song is a lot better with some bass !

  • i love this song. it makes me dance and smile every time i hear it. <3

  • Love it! thanks

  • even when she is doing nothing she is still hot

  • The next video was apparently Pavement's Range Life...

  • Okay, album came out in 9/94 and the tagline is "when the do the double dutch that's them dancing"

  • Christ. Here's another 120 Minutes favorite. And why is it every time I watch Liz Phair video I get an erection?

  • Is she saying "when they do the double dutch thats the Manson"?

  • I believe it's "When they do the double-dutch, that's them dancing" The song is about a mother imprinting her fears on her young son.

  • Why does she fear Manson?

  • Because Manson does a mean double dutch. Scares me.

  • Yup, you got the lyrics correct - for those who might not know "doouble dutch" is doing jumprope with two ropes at once. The song is also about a Mom's hopes for her son in general. Great tune.

  • @PostModVid That lyric "when they do the double-dutch, that's them dancing" is from a Malcolm MacLaren song called "Double Dutch."

  • @piledhighanddeep actually Malcolm wrote double dutch as an homage to this song.

  • @PostModVid

WHEN THEY DO THE DOUBLE DUCTCH THAT'S THE MANSON!

  • God I miss 120 minutes...actually I miss ANY music on MTV. Too bad Liz's music isn't anything like it used to be...

  • Yeah! I miss 120 minutes also! Bring it back and cancel all the other garbage on MTV!

  • Yeah, I hate it when artists grow and mature & find more than one thing to say.

You ever hear the song 'Positively 4th Street'?

  • Cool - I haven't seen this in a long time . . . thanks for posting it.
