  • @MrZethyo Sorry, don't wish to be mean but you are not a victim, never call yourself that. If you were in the middle of this horror, as I was, trapped and terrified, waiting to die, you call yourself a survivor, as I do.

We need the world to see, to understand why it will take us many years to get over this, if we ever fully do.

All hail our heroes, the CFA, so many lost their homes while protecting us, other citizens who stood tall, put aside their fear and helped others.

  • @sapphire60s TOO TRUE!!! I am a Survivor and am STILL Trying to get my life back!!!

Too many people LOVE to Try to be involved/ victims etc etc...We ARE the real victims and we were Maybe saved as i was...By a Miracle..Though so so many of my lifetime friends were not..

I think you Would agree...That we would Both prefer to never ever have this happen and Not be victims ???

    R.I.P to ALL !!!!!

  • Strange when you see pictures of burned out homes that the only things left standing are the fireplaces and chimneys - where the fire should have been!

  • Seeing this sort of stuff made me become a volunteer firefighter. Why sit idle when we can be out there attempting to make a change.

  • @soupey101 same here this made me wanna become a firefighter, Volentreering is great .

  • @MrZethyo He/she put this on so people can remember that faithful day. I was a victim as well mate, but I had never looked back at this for a long time now. Long live the towns that fell! For they are now rebuilt. R.I.P everybody who was lost on that day. It will still haunt us all.

  • like for the sake of victoria! we love you!

  • When the cool change came in the late evening; i thought to myself well the danger has passed an i went to bed. Then at about 3 am someone in my street said we are losing towns an people, i jumped up an started to cry thinking omg in the distance i could see the glow of red an i prayed that it would pass without grief but that was to be put into a tragic context. But we are Australians we banded together an we came when someone needed a hand an we will always prevail. We will remember....

  • When people ask me what am I most proud of? I look them in the eye and I say I am proud to be an Australian, when someone asks you that question you too will look them in the eyes and say I am proud to be an Australian. For even in our darkest hour there is one thing we can always depend upon and that is each other.

  • @kilmalletgodsortmout for me, i am most proud to be a Volunteer firefighter and to now be apart of a legacy of heroes, i always looked up to them a a kid, and now i am one. i am so happy to be apart of that now.

  • a very sad day in our history, the day we learned that fire is an incredibly frightening and awesome power, and it moves faster than you can..

  • Omg i saw thins on the news. I cant believe how close it got to melboure. And i cant believe it riped through the whole state. Aman lost his whole family in the fires. His daughter died in his arms :'(

  • @Biebermaniac245

Ash Wednesday 1983 was even closer ... Despite how disastrous Black Saturday was, Ash Wednesday filled Melbourne with still burning leaves and the smoke and smell was quite thick.

Even though the winds were going the other way... it was amazing how little smoke was in Melbourne ... you wouldn't have known what was happening unless you looked north.

Melbourne certainly lacked the atmosphere of what was going on.

  • Aazing but horrablie sad ;(

  • This made me cry. :(

  • That final photo, of the single fire engine with the mountain of fire behind it, that for me is the photo memory of that time. It says so much about how small we are and how, as much as we like to think we are in control, yeah, right. It will happen again, that's the nature of this country, but hopefully we will be smarter and bail before it gets critical.

Lives and loves are worth more than sticks and stones.

  • IT WAS VERY Bad to see all those people that have died

  • I remember me and my grandparents drove around houses like this, months after the fire had passed, it still looked like this.

  • Use mighty power of nature

In the northwestern Australia, we have huge tides,

huge evaporation and huge dry rivers and lakes.

Evaporation is up to 4m per year.

Huge 12m tidal erosion can revive old dry paleo dormant once mighty rivers, creeks and lakes,

desalinate the country and change deserts to rain forests to provide more rain across Australia = less Bush Fires

World population is growing rapidly and we need more energy, food, land and water.

  • My father and uncle were firefighting in Ash wednesday. Very similar except it was spread out over SA a bit also. Uncle ended up being trapped under a firetruck as the fire passed. Minor burns and lost his hair and eyebrows.

  • @AMandJBproductions Thank god it wasn't worse.. My dad's a member of the RFS and has just retired from his work. He was a manager for NPWS, acted as Incident Controller for the majority of fires in our region/state (NSW) in the past 20 or so years.. thankfully that has kept him in less dangerous positions a lot of the time. So grateful to all those who are fighting, and have fought, fires to keep us safe. So utterly deserving of all the recognition and thanks they can get.

  • The guy giving the koala water should be posted all over the world. That is what it is to be human, not blowing each other and everything else up!

  • @DelBluenose80 I'm pretty sure that would have been Sam the koala. He died 6 months ago. Had that disease that they always get or something

  • @AMandJBproductions ...Yes you are right, sadly Sam died after developing abdominal cysts due to a condition called urogenital chlamydiosis, which affects up to 50 percent of the koala population. Sam was a female koala. I believe the picture and mobile phone clip did go viral on the internet, friends from overseas mentioned it.

I am a Kinglaker who was trapped during the fire and saw so much devastation, human (we all know so many who died) animal and flora, terrible trauma for us.

  • @sapphire60s At least the main thing is it's all over now and we can work more on our prevention tactics. I strongly believe in leaving the day before but many stayed and well you don't have a chance. It's like being in a small kyak in huge 100ft waves. This wasn't just a bushfire this was a firestorm with flames raising many meters into the air blowing crazily in all dircetions and wipeing down all life in it's way.

  • @AMandJBproductions You don't have to tell me what it was, I was trapped in the horror, I felt and lived it. I had only just moved to the mountain ranges and was told about the last fire and that is why I did not leave. That is why so many did not leave. Why do people believe we knew what was going to happen and decided to stay anyway that we willingly and knowingly risked the lives of our children. Communications failed us, Russell Rees failed us because he knew and fiddled while we burned.

  • respect to all those who risked their lives to save others

  • Is that missy higgins at 0.23?

  • @ragTagblues No.

  • Very amazing photographs !!

  • 0:19 AWWWWW!!!

  • these fires were like 3 hours away from us...

  • brickie1304. R u Fucking high. What the fuck would drive u to say that the government organised that whole thing. U r a Fucking dickhead. R.I.P everyone who lost their lives in this tragic event

  • Whoever called Australia a 3rd world country doesn't know what a 3rd world country is. Just cos we had Black Saturday doesn't mean that were a 3rd world country.

  • i cant believe someone would call australia a third world country when we just went through that): obviously he didnt know how much pain and suffering we went through):

  • @dtlanshane thank-you, I found the song. :)

  • Does anyone know what this song is called?

  • @eddypimpgangsta15 the instrumental used in this is by a group or some guy called Immediate music and the song is serenata.

  • I wish that I lived closer to you, I would volunteer to help with the fires. It is hard to realise the magnitude of these fires and the sadness it leaves behind, fortunately we do not have to many forest/grass fires in the UK. Seeing your video is a stark reminder that you all had the determination to pull together. God bless you all. Ron

  • @29649ron Thank you from one who was trapped in the middle of the horrific firestorm terror. I'm glad you were not close because it was something no one could fight. Not one person would have willingly had a single child on the mountain ranges to burn to death. We did not know and that is why so many of us died. From my front window I can see where a family of 4 died so close to safety. I am so fortunate family and I survived and only lost fences, garden and veranda roof, homes around gone.

  • i <3 the chiwawa in pic 3? & also the combie one really got to me :( ( I PROBS SPELT ALL THAT WRONG PLZ IGNORE)

  • I've removed SylvieKloots comment

I don't want to see this video/comment thread turn into a verbal abuse area...

Keep up the tributes and general commenting =]

I'm just going to delete any nonsense that comes onto this video.

  • @dylanshane It's not a video....it's a slide show.

  • @SylvieKloot you fucking cunt you dont no what it was like how about if i burn your home town and see how you like it and you lose everyone you love take a good look i lost so meany of my mates and ppl like you dont care you can go get fucked hope you burn and you will see what its like

  • @SylvieKloot you ignorant slut did you watch the video, or just post something cos u seem to hate Australians. Wake up to your self before you post something like that, you fkn idiot

  • @SylvieKloot did u watch the video, it is pretty convincing. Is it me or are u blind you dick face, wake up to yourself before you post something like that, you dickhole

  • Comment removed

  • @SylvieKloot Fuck you! I hope your country burns to the ground because you are useless and arrogant. We will always prevail over scum and filth like yourself. Die cunt die!

  • @SylvieKloot Take a good look at YOURSELF. "A few hundred citizens and houses" may not seem like much to you but, to someone with a heart, we acknowledge that included fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, people's homes & memories. You have obviously never lost some one you love & you have obviously never been in a position to have to start your life from nothing. Also, where do you get off saying there is still evidence of damage? Have you visited this area? I have and things are on the mend...

  • @SylvieKloot i hope u get ur fucking throat slit open and everyone u love fucking burns harder than Black Saturday, u talking shit all the way over there behind ur computer, shows ur a gutless bitch with no regard for human life.

U would have no idea wat it feels like to lose so much, u would have no fucking clue, And in the end this 'Weak country' as u call it stuck together and fought it out, something u would have no understanding of im sure.

    Fuck u cocksucker!

  • Wow Wtf, what back water country do you come from?

Australia is the only developed nation in the world to grow and expand during the recession, so how can you call us a third world country?

  • OMG, I live in Flowerdale where about 80% of the houses burnt, I lost everything outside my house (car, caravan, garage, sheds and all that kind of stuff) this is the 1st time I've watched anything like this, and it hurts, it hurts alot but what adds to the hurt is the talk of conspiracy, WTF, I'd just like to say, you can stick that theory where the sun don't shine ! Think and then RE-THINK because that kind of talk only adds to peoples hurt and we can really do without any more.

  • im sorry!!!

i didnt realise your an expert at everything. ill leave the rebuilding to you then. goodbyee...

  • walkabout09 you must be sharp as a chisel yourself mate... or blind as a moron for calling me and bricki1304 ignorant. open your eyes mr toolbox before calling anyone ignorant because developments commenced already.

  • as much as id hate to say this its plain obvious the government coupled with powerful co-operations paved this land for future housing development. briki1304 i agree with you mate its smack bang plain in your face obvious who the real perpetrators are.

  • your a dumb fuck aren't

  • never forget it. more hazard reduction, now. it won't stop a day like this; but it will save lives... with yhe upmost respect...nick, rfs

  • this made me cry.. :( gosh. this was so shocking.. we were all praying for it to calm, my thoughts with everyone who lost family, friends, pets, homes... R.I.P

  • thoughts with all affected

  • Oh god, it's been a year.. I am so sorry for what happened.

I love Australia. Much Love to all Aussies :)

  • thanks for the link, really appreaciated :)

  • god bless everyone involved in this and those touched by it.........so dreadfully sad

  • Heart Renching.

One Year On, Rest In Piece.

  • Tomorrow is the first anniversary and we will weep once again for those lost. But we will help the survivors rebuild their lives in honour of those now gone. We must, we are one we are Australian. RIP

  • Oh, that's very sad to see. Good thing is that you Australians, are capable of helping each others, no matter what, who and where, it's a very humanistic attitude that no single person is left out to get help. Keep the great soul, God is watching.

  • Wow, worse than Southern California, USA.

U.N. should buy a fleet of AirTankers to put out these world wide conflagarations!

  • Australian bush needs to burn the seeds are cracked by the heat of fire so when the rain falls new life begins.

Our problem is we let the fuel of forrests build up so when fires start they are hugh.

The Aboriginals use to burn about every 8 years to keep the fuel down.

They also used fire to flush out animals

    for food.

we need to do more controled burns and allow more clearing around towns and houses.

  • No matter how bad things get, we will always stand tall we will stand proud, for we are one we are many we are Australians. And we never say it can't be done.

  • @kilmalletgodsortmout Amen mate. The only rival to the fire destroying our homes and lives is the national fire inside our hearts forging lifelong bonds of friendship and love.

  • @Askimoula Amen

  • There is a way to protect all the fire zone population ,but unfortunately process of bureaucracy and corruption put this summer this population in risk again, hopping that the people will forget and the fire not going to be the same like last year.

Man made climate change activists within the government departments are not only the saviours but the perpetrators of Black Saturday.

  • I didnt say mother nature is the cause entirely, i said nature is fragile, i said humans are causing the damage, obviously, you have a compassionate PM, but not a crisis manager, In times of crisis you need a tough individual, who can identify the causes and ACT. you Aussies have had it a few times now, So you should know the solution, Even if they are tough, you have no choice,

  • One step would be to ban Cigarettes, And sanction smoking,

Thats one big step, Careless smokers are responsible for a lot of fires around the world,

  • This is not mother nature, this is the stupidity of smokers, stupidity of a clownesque govt, wrath of aboriginal gods,

When u live in a fragile land, you have to be careful,

or get devoured by ensuing forces of circumstances

  • The second part of your comments suggests that mother nature is the cause because we live on fragile earth.

Yes we have to be smarter, but not for the reasons you give us (other than cigarettes).

With the media getting hyped up as it will, the arsonists will be creaming their pants again. I hope the firefighters get on top of it quickly.

  • true that. so important that your family knows how you feel about them! especially when everything changes in an instant. three houses lost in Tasmania and it's only November.

  • These images are so upsetting for me :-(

THIS MUST NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN BUT YOU CAN DO NOTHING , JUST ABOUT THE MOST POWERFULL THING MOTHER NATURE CAN THROW AT US

  • yes me and my mate were talking about this summer fire storms.we are building a firebunker on our property here in queenland we have had hi winds and heat .the idots are already out lighting them, 70,000 hec burnt out last wendays just near my farm south of 1770.councel workers seen a man pull of the road minnets later up it went..dam crazzy

  • The photo at 1.06 is Melbourne. The view from King Lake West. It was on the back of the Herald Sun on Thursday the 12th of Feb 2009. I kept it as a reminder that we are all at risk no matter where we live. I live in one of the towns that made it to the top 50 towns at most risk for the coming season of 2009/10. When I look at this photo I realise we can never be too prepared.

  • what city is that at 1:06 coz that isnt melbourne lol

  • its melbourne

  • So true . compered to the resent fires in the USA were 4000 +fire fighters close in backed up with 747s,huge choppers and the likes dumping gallons of retardent .makes us look like a joke!

  • Thats right the state goverment couldent give a rats ass ! the commuity and towns people will have to build there own bunkers .property owns the same.

  • Did you not pay any attention to the media?

Besides, the Fire Department, CFA etc did well to prevent massive fires in the years since A.W.

  • Are you for real? do you even live in Vic?? There were hundreds of ads and warnings in the media all year before about getting a fireplan and so on. A lot of people were in fact very well prepared, they just didn't realise how quick the fire was moving.

  • I dont think it will happen again at this same magnitude becuase last time we were not prepared and we didnt expect it. But this time, we are prepared.

  • it will happen again people, this summer temperatures are rising another 3 degrees

if we see a 50degree day..... we're all screwed.... im volunteering for the CFA start of december WHOSE WITH ME?!

  • best of luck if you do man, those fire fighters have some balls doing what they do, im just back from a holiday in melbourne(from ireland) and man reading about what happened on black saturday is heart breaking

  • i am its possible for it to happen you are right the best thing is probaly move or build a new one and leave that one.

  • R.I.P MACCA ALLWAYS IN OUR HEARTS

  • Im sitting here now listening to fire trucks screaming past. Im in Nowra NSW and they are heading to another bushfire that has started at the bottom of Cambrewarra Mountain this is the fourth fire in the Shoalhaven area today. It is still Winter, and we are officially classified in a bushfire emergency. God help us this summer.your vid is brilliant, you can actually understand it better when you hear people describe fire zones as "the air was on fire" your pictures clearly show that. RIP ......

  • Thank you.

Well my area has always been classed as a high level bush fire zone ( South East Queensland ) But I don't think it is as bad as central north of NSW and parts of Victoria as well but these things happen we just have to deal with them as best as we can.

I hope all is well in your area.

  • I live in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. I've been keeping up to date with the emergency your towns are facing and it is shocking, how fires are startin in winter and classed as an emergency. This summer is going to be a bad one and hopefully, there won't be any bad fires like Victoria. All we can do now is hope and pray.

  • R.I.P for ppl who dies :(

  • could it happen again ?

  • ha ha, you're funny!! how much more funnier would it be if someone soaked you in petrol and set you alight, that would be impossible to contain the laughter!!!

    you fuckin tool.

  • could you send me the video for school purpouse thanks (it's very well constructured)

  • 00:18 what is that

  • its some one that was injured in the fire........ you know the out come

  • charming aren't you?

  • Very Moving Video. Thankyou for posting.....

  • Your quiet welcome :) this video was also played in Cinemas in Romania, a magazine editor in romania seen this video and contacted me and asked for it to be played over there and I got 2 videos sen't back and one of the videos showing this being played in the cinemas, a full cinema too! :P

  • 'MyNameIsMarijuana' - show some respect yeah asshole.

  • @MyNameIsMarijuana oooohhhh.... ill light you into a barbeque...

  • God bless them all

  • Hey man , great Vid. 4 months on it still raises strong emotions watching what we went through. Now its snowing in Marysville. Mother Nature is a cruel mistress

  • Life is so much easier for those who don't live in bushland prone areas, life goes on for you guys, even though these events were 5 months ago, we still suffer through this. I guess for all those people who dont give a shit about anyone but themselves. When your house is on fire, who do you hope will save you?

  • My head and my own two hands.

  • no, your not funny....thats....thats just harsh

  • R.I.P Stuart and Parents, May you never be forgotten.

  • I would like people to spread this video around more, show people the devastation and horror's that went on that day..

  • hello people. Well hope mine hello brings some rain up there. Gosh i was out of action since news up here ( lithuania) don't show much at all about australia. But after i saw this.. God i feel sorry for people who lost so much cause of such joke of nature... (or not). I say 5 for the video since for me ( and i bet most of those who watched it) allmsot or did thrown a sorrow in their eyes. That's just horrible :( be strong people. There's allways a light which comes after dark.

  • brilliant just wanderin where you got the photos and stuff from i m doin a skool project on bushfire relief and this would help me a lot...amazing video really shows the devestation and the pain,

  • Great moving vid , Thanks, Puts peoples winging really in perspective does'nt it...From one that lives in the Adelaide hills

  • Thanks for the appreciation. This short video was also played in a cinema in Romania and the people of Romania donated what they could for the people of Victorias bushfires. Check it out, it's amongest my videos.

  • You are a loser...

  • how can u b so fuckin stupid?? making jokes about that..

  • hi there from one woodlands firefighter to our Australian brothers I know you guys did all you could and then some. As for the idiots that try justify things like this they are immature fools looking for attention ignore them good vid and awesome score

    What is the songs name?

  • May ever man and women who died in the fire rest in peace. No one deserves this.

  • to whom that would like to poorly comment this video should be ashamed. to those who argue about god and tries to curse someone under his name, Gods loves everybody no matter what. Spare a thought for those who fought the fires and those who'd lost their lives.

  • Even I'm a non believer we have to put all that aside and just acknowledge the life's lost and remember them...

  • oh and I wish any of you who lost your homes or a loved one good luck and know that we're thinking of you

  • YEAH! God came to punish all the good country people of Victoria! Lol people here are so stupid

  • ignore the mistakes...im tired **conservationists

  • anyway...getting back to the actual issue (jeez, it amazes me how much crap has filled up in these comment spaces of these bushfire clips, when you'd hope it would all be well wishing, and any anger should be directed at the bloody arsonists or narrow minded conversations who prevented clearing fires breaks) the fires were devastating and tragically affected so many lives, lets help them recover what they can from this disaster, and work to ensure that it never happens again, cheers.

  • To all you normal, decent human beings: don't bother replying to the low-lifes like socceroo1990, they're either just trolls trying their hardest to anger you and elicit the exact response youre giving them because they are very sad, pathetic people, bored with their own lame lives, or just truly horrible people who, hopefully, through a karma type event or through their own act of stupidity eliminate themselves from the gene pool, and we never have to hear their crap again, cheers!

  • haha OWNED

  • Your nothing but a piece of shit.

This so called god probable fills you with nothing but hate thus he hates you...

  • the day one of your family die cunt, take a step back and think about what you just posted.

think how it feels to have someone you love die.

and when you do realise it, give yourself an uppercut you little cunt.

  • There is no almighty God. Weak people think that something like that exists so that it can fix their weaknesses and punish others for theirs.

Hope is the opposite of the will to act. In having faith or hope, you demand of others to do what you cannot, because are weak.

Nothing is perfect, everything is merely a product of chaos. That is why there is no almighty God. Having hope is only natural since we are not perfect. But that does not mean one should be passive. Praying achieves nothing.

  • Woooo, steady on there mate.

Victoria is a partailly christian state, why would god punish his own?

And what is so unholy about Victorians? seriously.

But mostly, that is so freaking inconsiderate. I don't go around to funerals laughing at corpses saying 'Ooooh, god got'cha!'

Your acount has been reported for bullying.

  • Your such a dick!

  • I hope the person responsible for this gets what he deserves!

  • You are to be commended on this video.

Tonight for the first time I felt ready to view what was available and your video had me crying. I lived through the Ringwood fires in '62 and was helping out in the Whittlesea and Flowerdale area for the first 9 days after this fire - the loss of so much is soul destroying.
