I wouldn't watch a reality tv show unless I was paid to which is why I watched guard posts in the Army and Army guard posts are usually more interesting to watch since you can run into the same assortment of drunks, wierdos, hot looking babes, and occassionally even might have one try to kill you which makes it much more exciting.

I'dont like it, but i'agree, every single person who exposes themself's on tv know what type of situation they are getting in, even because it's a way to construct a better financial life... And the claim reality tv is fake is not exactly supportable. Sure, directos exaggerate and take stuff out of context to make the show more interesting. But in the end people say what they say and do what they do. Reality tv is not (although many would like to believe that) run by scripts. As the gentleman in the video rightly pointed out directors try to save money by not employing writers. Life (with the help of the right setting) writes the best stories after all.

I LOVE reality TV. And its not because I'm a stalker or because I have no personal life but because I love watching human behavior. Real people, mostly younger, are being out into pressure situations they are not used to. That's when the real personalities come out.

Survivor series which aired 5-31-2000 , was the first Reality TV Show that kicked off the Reality TV craze,also Big Brother that same year,after those 2 shows popped up, the flood gate opened.Some people might try to say Real World on MTV was but not really,I mean big PrimeTime networks. TV is so ruined today with all the mindless garbage that I don't even have Cable TV or Satellite,after 2000 everything just went down hill for TV

There's too many reality shows on TV these days, I like good TV Shows and Movies, reality is ok for a few minute random filler like an old styled commercial. But you sometimes watch TV to escape reality and see something different. It was good for awhile but got old real quick when the Reality TV shows lasted for years and multiplied on almost every topic.

While some of it like certain competition shows is ok, even those are a pretty old now. If it's like a documentary it's a bit interesting.

You can't generalize all reality TV. It depends on each show.

Shows like Jersey Shore look scripted enough. Shows like Survivor, talent shows, and other British reality shows are more real. If you slip up on those shows, you WILL be caught.

Reality TV is so popular because people want to see something real even if it is contrived and artificial. Reality TV gives the impression we are viewing something, real people responding with emotion to "real" situations. Why are reality tv shows so popular? Because the television broadcasting network has lost all sense of creativity, as have those watching these shows. People would rather watch mindless shows like The Bachelor and Wipeout, instead of New Amsterdam (which was canceled) and Life on Mars (canceled too). Great shows that were not given a chance, because it actually possesses a storyline!
