I am not an American, I am Turkish-Canadian, yet the American Civil War does intrest me. The generals are some of the best of their time, and the strategic and tactical movements of armies and such are something I find worth studying. But I doubt it can make up an entire installment in the total war franchise. It is more probable to be a minor campaign like the Italian and Egyptian ones from Napoleon Totalwar, or the 4 minor maps from the Medival II expansion.
If there was any civil war that would be suitable for a Total War game, I think the Warring States period in China would rank amongst the most viable.
I actually would love to see a Total War Asia, set in antiquity ranging from as far west as the Persian Empire territory to Japan. I believe that has potential.
Shogun 2, while beautiful, lacked variety in troops/factions to have reply value IMO.

The point was to make a balanced game, loosely set in Ancient Rome. They had "Yubtseb" Elephants (read the word backwards if you don't get why it supports my point) spawning at the top of the map in Hyperboria (along with Amazon chariot women) which kind of (deliberately I guess) removed all pretence at being historically accurate. Just download Rome: Total Realism if you want that.
i think the reason rome is so good is the era, no era could have such a huge variety in ways of fighting, roman legionarys,greek hoplites,asian elephant and so many different cultures of warfare, in different area's. rome total war 2 would be a great idea, or anything around 300bc to 300 ad.
@11haythem If they expanded the map in Rome 2 so that it stretches from Europe to China, I would be so immensely happy. I can just imagine it now, the Roman Empire takes on the Han Dynasty, two great Empires from two entirely different spheres of influence, just going at it. Comparative Culture to the extreme. And the game spans from the Roman Republic to the late Dark Ages, encompassing the Punic Wars, First and Second Triumvirate, Christian reformation, and the Rise of Islam.

These days, game developers are forgetting about the basics of game design. Those basics evolved trough years. I noticed such in the last titles, such as Shogun2.

@Oyrad58 Except peasants are dirt cheap and the Spartans are not, and Spartan hoplites are super effective against them, but the AI isn't smart. It's easy to win with the peasants actually if played with a human player, you just flank the hoplites where there spears don't point, and if they switch to swords, it's a more even match.

@suonicslice A "future" total war is unlikely for the same reason a "WW2 - Total War" is. It would be focused on squad-based combat with quick movements etc., rather than the huge regimental warfare which has become the staple of the Total War series. It wouldn't be able to portray futuristic warfare in a satisfying way without changing the core aspects of the game so much that they'd be better off releasing it as something else than a Total War game.
I dont generally play many games but I have Rome Total War. I am from Lebanon and since the majority of Phoenicia was centered in Lebanon I play as Carthage because they are from Phoenicia. This game is very good. If they make Rome 2 Total War I will fall in love.

A Rome2:Total War would be a lot more realistic and accurate than the original. They've gotten a lot better at that.

@suonicslice A "future" total war is unlikely for the same reason a "WW2 - Total War" is. It would be focused on squad-based combat with quick movements etc., rather than the huge regimental warfare which has become the staple of the Total War series. It wouldn't be able to portray futuristic warfare in a satisfying way without changing the core aspects of the game so much that they'd be better off releasing it as something else than a Total War game.

I dont generally play many games but I have Rome Total War. I am from Lebanon and since the majority of Phoenicia was centered in Lebanon I play as Carthage because they are from Phoenicia. This game is very good. If they make Rome 2 Total War I will fall in love.

In italian is still quite similar: to win(ENG)=vincere(ITA)=vincĕre (LAT)

it seems like the creative assembly are making an alian game instead for consoles or something LOOOOOOOOOL.... why create a game every total war fan wants when u can make a crappy game a ton of kids will buy for their consoles? its the call of duty-strategy everyone wants to copy, they make a crappy game with graphics thats 5 years outdated every year, but people still buy it... making a total war game must be hard, the AI is a bitch I guess.
