The webcam sees the card and creates a 3d model on it via his screen. Try and youtube ARtoolkit that should explain a lot of things for you. That or click Augmented Reality: see how it works in related videos to the right you lazy bum :P

He makes it look at lot easier than actually it is. Hard to steady the card to get a steady enough image of the player.

It;s real, except it only shows up on the computer screen, the 3d affect, the computer webcam picks up the angle of the card, and the card face, to be able to display a 3d model of it on the computer screen
