See, I believe they keep bringing up hide because he was a brother that they still haven't accepted losing yet. Sugizo is called the "sixth member", and isn't meant to replace hide. They still love him; why else do they prop up some of his guitars on stage? It's a tribute, not money-spinning. Why would they go to all this effort, creating a lifelike hologram, just to make a quick buck?

About hide and SUGIZO. I see it in this way when Taiji left the group they stop playing a few songs because Taiji was a big part in those songs. With hide is the same thing but this time they can't stop playing the songs, they would play nothing. They still need time to figure out how to combined both of them in their music. Beside is not easy to replace hide just like that, give them more time, I know that Yoshiki will find the balance between hide and SUGIZO.

I can see both sides of the argument: hide kinda is a huge part of X Japan's success at this point and they should give Sugizo his fair chance to make a name. Then again, hide' s death sent 60 people to a hospital and 200 to first Aid tents, in many cases b/c they tried to kill themselves... he's obviously not a small part of what made them successful. If it was only one song, then it's not that bad. Plus, don't you think that they wanted to show off this technology?

Most of the newer videos you find it's clear his voice has gotten weaker. Silent Jealousy at the hide Memorial was particularly strained.

That said, the guy had a phenomenal voice in his prime and these things just happen with age. He's still hitting the notes, just not with the same clarity and power.

I've noticed people are relatively sensitive about this band. I really don't get it. I mean, Roger Daltrey was one of the best rock vocalist of all time, and he's just awful now. That doesn't make the singing on Quadrophenia and Tommy bad and it doesn't knock his status...he's just not good anymore.

honestly though, if you think about it, he's a good deal older, he's probably not in performing condition anymore (not like when they toured all the time) and if you think that hearing these songs played and seeing hide again is emotional for you and me, think about how he, and the rest of the band feel, y'know? i'd say it's expected for singing to be painful for him

i guess it's just a personal opinion. i can see why you could see it that way, though he really only seems strained at the beginning, and it sounds like he's holding back tears (in my opinion) but by the end of the song he sounds just as strong as he ever was. i actually think i like this version better than the first performance. this one just sounds more...raw, i guess. more emotional (for obvious reasons) and it just strikes me stronger

You can't really blame the whole band for messing up in a few parts. They have been away for about 10 years now, let alone their longest song was the first song in their comeback tour. Yoshiki has been working on Violet UK, Toshi has been singing soul, earth, peaceful music after the band breakup so he can't yell like he used to and both Pata and Heath had different side bands after the band broke up. It still sounds the same like it always has.
