I am just getting into this stuff. I have found lots of money on the beach the first time I tried it. I am hooked! Next adventure is going to my ancestor's old farm house (now gone) to see if I can find anything. This is a lot of fun!
ur right tho, i have been considering that possibility of depth. im going to search for a decent size shovel later in the spring. right now im using one with a 1.5 ft handle (just simply a long stem w/out a horizontal grip), but its like a gardening tool with a small 4x3 spade head at the top and no real foot press.
i'd like to find one around 2.5 ft with a foot press and top handle. do u know where i can get one CHEAP ($15) online?...perhaps a decent primary metal detecting warehouse supplier?
Ha! i may be big, and somewhat naive, but i cant imagine carrying a large shovel with all my other stuff in my back yard. im only 17 and my parents think im nuts as is tearing up their yard hours at a time...ha!
yeah, thats actually where i find my problem. i'll hear thatone angelic sounding beep and get so excited, than i'll put on the pinpoint feature and suddenly im standing on grass made of iron- theres hardly ever a break from the sound whether it be loud or not. I do find tons of broken pottery and nails, but i think thats because there was some sort of small dump behind my house. ive found tons of bottles, pottery, water tank, shoe soles, flag handles...but their all invaluable and blocking great
amazing finds...where do u searc that u find such valuable prizes? ive searched schools, parks, beaches- all i ever find is garbage and recent coins, and i have a new WHITE model.
I'm using the White's XLT! What model do you have? Most of my finds are fairgrounds, beaches and farm fields. If you have an old fairground near you, check it out! Anywhere people have gathered! You'd be surprised at how many locations you think would have nothing and yet, they unearth the best!
i have a new model, not quite sure though and i dont have it with me now. I've had it for three years but became somewhat discouraged. Especially since I thought I would find so much since my house was built in 1850...but it was a small dump I think because there is so much broken pottery and debris half buried in tho ground...theres a ton of iron in the ground all around my town so it's hard. I'll look into fairgrounds tho. thanx for the advice! O, HOW DO U NARROW A SIGNAL THAT SEEMS 3FT WIDE?
If you're finding pottery, you may wanna check that area better. Old pottery = old coins!Sometimes you gotta clean out the junk to get the good stuf! The iron could be masking some good finds, To narrow the signal, use the pinpoint feature and move the coil around till you hear the highest / loudest sound and that should be your center. That is of course if your machine has the pinpoint option.
