  • what kind of photoshop you use??...eg:cs3

  • @naruto20418 Photoshop was not used in this video.

  • @Fullmetalomi Awesome work, this is pretty impressive, & also; I love the soundtrack you used whilst doing the tutorial. ^~^

  • @naruto20418 If you read what's in the title...Manga Studio is being used.

    *facepalms*

  • what tablet are you using?

  • Ok, so my friend says that she's installed the program, and was drawing a page, and when she saves, the panels disappear. i told her to check the Jpeg to see if it doesnt appear then, which it doesnt. can you maybe help??

  • @AnimeRebel13 I'm not quite sure-- It could be a number of things. Is it the only the panel frame/box that goes or the entire contents of the panel (drawings/etc)? Is she using the panel tool or making her own rectangles with the box tool?

  • I just got MS EX 4 and I have a question...

    My LINES LOOK PIXELATED!?

when i ink they do not look at nice as yours....

is there anyway to fix this?

    please and thank you!

  • @1animeandmangafan MS uses aliased brushes/quality. It does not make lines with blended edges- at least not that I know of. It looks smooth in the video since the video is lowish quality/reduced resolution and smoothed it out. It does this to help with memory use/saving/etc. and won't show up on printed paper (since ink will bleed it out at the DPI MS uses).

  • @Fullmetalomi That makes sense.

Thank you for replying and helping!

  • I'd Like to ask about this product. You know when your drawing the Base of the drawing, then when your done with it you use black Ink to darken it. How did you get rid of the red without Rubbing it out?????

    Please Answer!

  • @djdocdman Its on a separate layer from the inked lineart- when done, you just delete the sketch layer or use the "hide" function.

  • ...i like the tutorial but is was a bit too fast when you were doing the tones, i couldn't even see how you were getting the results at the end...it would be awesome if you could do a video on just tone and do it slowly so we can see the steps.

  • when I heard the music start all i could do was smile. Thumbs up to you.

  • 3:27 bottom drawing XD

  • what do you press for the original sketch to dissapear and only leave the inked one? and is it okay if i scanned a drawing with pencil and inked with the program?

  • my hand shakes like a btch what shud i do for face drawing =.=

  • @rhopflamexl2 the only solution for that is to use REALLY quick strokes... I had that problem a lot until I got used to making the strokes go the way I wanted to.

  • @rhopflamexl2 depending upon which tool you're using, you can set it so that it eliminates a lot of the shaking--but I forget which tool that works with. Saw it on another msd4 tutorial on yt.

  • I got this thing a long time ago... At the time I took one look at it and went "What... The.. Frick?" And to this day my reaction remains the same. I'm sure that I'll never be able to use this without someone at my side actually showing me what to do, lol. And plus... I lost the pen to my tablet... Soooo.. Won't be using this anytime soon.

  • ah, hi, i need ur help again. i hav trouble in using toning and coloring for my image. i finally got a mangastudio osx version (full, as far as i know). But, i dono what is the best method to use toning and coloring for my image. i tried so many ways and stuff, but they usually end up covering my ink lines too. Is there a way where i can color a certain area of my drawing without going over the ink lines and perfectly at where it is? ok, thanks

  • What tool did you use for inking/ toning ^^' I'm pretty nubish at this

  • Question... how the hell do i colour i've been trying for ages with the whole layer and 32 bit whatever and i just cant get it to work im completely lost plz make a verrrryy simmple tutorial on this plz!

  • hey friend,my colors don't work, just the black and white,do i need to get some materials or something?

  • is manga studio just like a Photo shop rip off or what is it? can someone let me know kindly pls.

  • (hi, i was thinking, that, gaah, i suck at mangastudio. so, can i add u on my gmail? u can send me a private message to my youtube account's inbox. If u dont wanna do that, then i can send mine, but, just reply to this comment to so that i know if i should send my gmail address to ur youtube account's inbox or u. k, htanks! i really want to be able to chat with u, so that i can ask u questions easier, thanks!)

  • please answer this.

are you using a pen tablet? if so, can u tell me which one ur using??

  • oh, hey, i need help. i just finish ink all the lines on my scanned drawing. but now, i just find out, that when i import my scanned image to my mangastudio ex4.0 (mac, DEMO), from its original pixel size (3504 × 2552), the software change it to 310 × 438 pixel size. So, can u help me on how to let the edited version of this scanned image to its original resolution (without any distortment, u c what i mean?). ok, thanks!

  • oh, sorry to ask a not so important question, but i really love this song, but couldnt find it. can u send let me know how i can get it from the internet? thanks!!

  • ah, hey, can you help me on this. i cant draw on a imported scanned images. is it just my mangastudio or is it really because mangastudio is designed to not be able to draw on scanned images? ok, thanks! (PLEASE!! i need help here)

  • @AzinazEntertainment I don't appear to be having any problem when I import jpeg files into MS. Have you made sure that the layer that you're working on isn't locked or modified someway that disallows use? If all else fails, perhaps using a new layer will allow you do complete what you need?

  • @Fullmetalomi oh, thanks! (sorry to hav u answer me after i just found out how, i just find out that i hav to put the layer for mangastudio edit at the top above the scanned image's layer. but, really, this proves it that u will be there when i need more help, since i m still new to MS). But, really, i m really thankful for ur answer and happy to receive from you! hope i can contact with u again when i need help on MS, thanks so much!

  • @Fullmetalomi how do you trace over a scanned image? do you use a quick mask? is there a tracing button? its my first time using mangastudio and its PC.

  • @Fullmetalomi can you help me out. im still new at using managstudio but im having problems with inserting backgrounds. like i understand that all i have to do is, drag and drop into the panel you want. but when i do, it tends to cut a portion off or become a pattern and repeats itself like wallpaper. which i do not want. can you give step by step instructions on inserting a background without any or any problems? it would help thank you

  • lol sorry didnt see your comment @OPH2001

  • oh noes! my computer blew up becuse i love this song too much and turned it up too high

  • what tool did you use to sketch?

  • @MrAkuheiRyoku The pencil tool (thin), I believe.

  • @Fullmetalomi but for me to even see anyline I have to press down really hard T^T

  • @MrAkuheiRyoku Is it like that with all your art programs? It could be that your pen sensitivity needs calibrating via your tablet settings.

  • @Fullmetalomi I guess

  • @Fullmetalomi how do I start coloring? what tool do I use and all

  • can you put in pictures in this program and color them if thier line art or a manga page like from an anime for example?

the reason I ask because I plan on getting this sometime in the future.

which btw the inking looks hard when it comes to the hair.

  • how do i make the drawing space bigger?

  • can anyone just grab their mouse and do this on their first try or do you need skill

  • @EMPrivateRyan Practice Practice Practice most use a tablet

  • How do you make the lines on the hair so smooth?

  • @boypaslot You can draw with a mouse by just clicking the left button down and dragging the mouse in the direction you'd like the line to go. The screen will display your drawing as your in the action of making it. I recommend buying a drawing tablet (I recommend Wacom brand), though, since tablets have pen sensitivity and a more intuitive method.

  • can it do line art? like with out the pad and pen.

  • @junelo810 You can draw on paper and use a scanner to import hand drawn images, if that's what you mean? Or draw with a mouse, if that's your tool of choice.

  • @Fullmetalomi

What drawing tablet do you use? If it's one of the cheaper ones that doesn't have the built in screen (and therefore you must look at the comp when you draw, not the tablet) is it hard to get used to? What tablet do you recommend? My biggest problem that I'm scared to death of is constantly hitting redo because I touched the pen down to the wrong spot!

  • @MissChibiChild I use a Wacom Graphire4 4x6ish size. It is one of the "stare at the screen instead of your head" type and was around $90US when I got it a few years ago. Ctr+Z will be your new friend if you decide to use a tablet regardless of how practiced you are- its just how it is, imho. I can't really recommend any particular tablet as this is the only type I've ever used.

  • @Fullmetalomi Ahh I see. Thank you for answering so quickly! If you don't mind, I have a few more questions:

    1) Was it frustrating at first, having to look at a screen that wasn't the surface you're drawing on?

    2) How long did it take you to get used to it?

    3) If you're hand is resting on the tablet while you draw will it confuse the tablet?

    4) With Manga Studio is there a limit to the number of layers you can do?

    Thank you.

  • @MissChibiChild 5) Is there a blend tool in Manga Studio, and do you know if it's available in Debut or just EX?

  • @MissChibiChild No problem!

    1) Kinda, at first. It becomes second nature after you get used to it. Its been so long I hardly remember.

    2) You get past your initial frustrations probably after a week or two (maybe even days). Its different for everyone.

    3)No, not that I've experienced. There's a sensor in the pen/tools.

    4) Dunno- never experienced a limit or tested it . I've probably used 15+ layers before.

  • @Fullmetalomi how do you get your sketches by pencil and put it on the computer to trace it on the computer?

  • @TheShyGirl45 In this example, the sketch was drawn digitally into the program and not drawn on paper.

To get a scanned pencil sketch into MS, you need to use the import function (under the File tab). If you're getting it directly from your scanner, use the TWAIN function (I think).

  • Couple questions (from a prospective graphic-novelist):

    1) Is EX vector-based or raster-based?

    2) What canvas size are you using/ is the program true to it's digital size? I have issues with this in Debut so I'd like to know

    3) Is the coloring system more versatile than Debut? (you can't blend colors and such, so I was wondering what you could do in EX. I mean, the price difference is extraordinary)

  • @NekoProductionCorps

    1. It can use either depending on what layer type you use

    2. Canvas size is either custom settings or one of the pre-loaded depending on what project I'm doing. I don't have a constant size I work at. Not sure what you're referring to about the digital size question. More elaboration, please?

    3. Coloring system is the same as Debut as far as I can tell. Go with SAI Paint Tool/Photoshop/Gimp.

  • @Fullmetalomi

    1) Thank you!

    2) Like you, I have a DeviantArt account and when I upload an 8.5"X11" piece it ends up looking pretty small. I don't know if that's the software or DA's viewing format.

    3) I'll look into those, thanks :)

  • what pen do you use to trace over the drawing?

  • So Manga Studio Ex is just a MS Paint clone with a broader interface? Is it even worth it?

  • What is the point of the magic marker tool?

  • @areading12 it provides a line without variation, in case you wanted to do dead-line drawing, say for backgrounds, or if your style doesn't like lines with variation.

  • Is there any way for you to use an eraser lightly? So it just erases everything in a pressure sensitive way?

  • @LybrikVladmir Yes and no- the best way to get a more sensitive/gradual erase is to use the transparent color option with the correct brush type. The transparent option is on your tool bar- its the box near the bottom with the checkerboard- click it to activate. Now any brush you use will paint transparency onto the layer you're using (just like the eraser). I recommend the pencil tool. Mind you, it'll be a toned/patterned erase pattern but that's the best MS can do with aliased typed art.

  • Which Tablet do you use?

  • @Midnightw0lf12 I use a Wacom Graphire4.

  • wow that is so cool and helpful! im a studant in the animation deparment, frist year, at durham collage my dearm is to become a 2D animator and magna artist, i always wanted to get this software but i don't know much about it.

  • song plz :3 i wuld appreciate it a lot.:) thnx for the vid also

  • @ZekeNLutherfan1995 The song is listed in the description.

  • this program seems AMAZING!!! This is actaully the one i am downloading now...but how do you think it would work out with a mouse because i do not have a drawing pad.

  • @KakashiOfDoom It'll work with a mouse but, imho, it make things a lot more challenging and labor intensive in the long run. Really, that holds true for any program when its mouse vs tablet.

  • I'm considering getting this. It looks very similar in appearance and function to Photoshop. How is the stability of the program? Do you have any issues or have heard of any issues with frequent crashing or anything?

  • @longtail4711 I've never had any issues with it personally or heard of any but I am far from an expert. I do not, however, recommend this as an complete alternative to Photoshop itself, if that was what you were hoping to use this for.

  • very nice

amm..what is your ver of manga studio

    ^^

  • @sosslli Version 4 EX.

  • @Fullmetalomi Hi! Umm, what pen would you suggest for inking?

  • @xXdemonicroseXx It really depends on what kind of object you are inking, how comfortable you are with your pen sensitivity, etc. I tend to use G pen for most inking. G pen gives a lot of variance between thick/thin lines while the others tend to stick closer to a particular pixel size in width, imho.

  • SPICE!!!!!

  • am i missing something , i cant seem to figure out how to "paint the screentones on :( could you send me a message with a description of that process ? thanks :)

  • wat it sthis song!? I love it!! :D

  • @NovaTazuna Vocaloid- SPICE! Amu and Saiya Ver. Read the description :)

  • @UnknownAngeI ohhhh thx :)

  • @MetalStorm525 You can scan and import traditional media drawings into MS BUT it will not change how anything looks about the image besides aliasing it. You still have to clean up and correct anything that may be amiss with the image via the tools provided.

  • How do you remove the sketches? It's like your remove the colour: Pink from your drawing, how do you do that?

  • @FreakyBow Its on a separate layer so you can either delete it when you're done inking or you can use the hide button beside the layer (looks like an eye) to make it invisible and still accessible if needed later.

  • @Fullmetalomi Which would you recommend, drawing in manga studios or by hand?

  • @FreakyBow Do whatever is most comfortable and efficient for you- different artists have different preferences and expertise with each medium. I can't recommend any method over any other method as long as you get the results you want.

  • How do change from beginner to advanced on a MAC???? T_T

  • im inspired

  • POOF , like magic :D (not really , more over talent and practice xD)

  • I FREAKIN LOVE THIS SONG. (the len version)

  • @OPH2001 O=O WHAT???? you dont like Amu? T_T evethough the way he answered the phone was just *blush* *evil giggle*

  • @moonlightmenuett lol i just prefer the len version

  • guys can someone please help me? when i click the color palette i cant move it or control it. i can only show and hide it. because its like, under the taskbar i can see it but i cant use it all! so can someone please help?

  • thank you

  • *just got mine

  • @MrRaikousen Oh how odd. I just mine yesterday and I was doing the same. lolz. I haven't really come across any that are really too helpful though. They either contain info I already know, go way to fast to catch onto what the people in them are doing or don't explain well enough for me to understand.

  • @MrRaikousen Alrighty. The program is so new to me and is nothing like my PS so it's taking some getting used to here. lol. Tysm for all the help. ^-^

  • @MrRaikousen Ah, ty. I think I got it now. One other small question would be that .png files are incompatible? I can't seem to be able to import those though I can my .jpg.

  • How did you do that part? 2:42

  • I have a question similar to MistyHollowDrummer's down there. I just bought Debut 4 and I need to get a new tablet so for now I just draw traditionally and scan my pics in. How can I import the line art files to MS so I can edit them in there?

  • idk how to do all of it! how to i put little boxes like real anime!

  • I really want Manga Studio but I can't buy it 'coz my mom don't allow me,, I'm searching for it but I can't see free Manga Studio.. I don't want trial coz it won't last. Can u share urs, please?

  • hello, great tutorial. I was wondering if you knew how to smooth out the tones, because when I finish toning, the texture looks too bold and rough.

  • I has lots of questions, but my main one for now is, I drew this picture in Paint Tool Sai, and I want to open it in Manga studio, BUT if won't show the file because the file type is different. I can't seem to save it in the file type for Manga studio either. How can I open that picture in Manga studio? And then how can I paste that picture into one I already have open? I think I can figure that part out, but just in case? ^^ Please and thank you!

  • Spice convinced me this was a good idea..

  • what's the name of the song??

    could you tell me? -.-

    Onegai shimasu!!!

  • @anime4520 it's a nico collaboration cover of Spice!

  • @chiyokosama Spice!?

  • does this come with a tablet?

  • @RyuukiArtsTV no lol

  • Oh my, I was so caught up with the music that I didn't read/pay attention to the video. //shot Er.. Anyway, xD Your video was really helpful. ouo Thank chu~ Ohoho.

  • can you tell me if there is a magic selector tool that makes selecting areas of lineart easier for shading?

  • how do you change the boxes from beginners to advanced? its annoying me :)

  • @VirtualAmortentia I believe you want to turn off the "Beginner's Assistant" Mode? Two methods: 1) Open the Window tab at the top and click the Beginner's Assistant if it is checked. OR 2) Hit f10. You may want to check out the Window tab, though, since it has a lot of the advanced options that may not be checked and visible.

  • @Fullmetalomi ^^; yeah.. thank you :D <3

  • @Fullmetalomi How do you custom make the boxes that are used to show different scenes?

  • @jamesonton I assume you mean the panels? I use the line or rectangle tool and create a box on a layer.

  • could you tell me how you make this vid XD

I wanna make tutous too but I have no idea, how to make them

(sry for bad english ^^ i'm a stupid german XD)

  • this is perfect to make my handdrawn comics look professional.

  • @joshzamaki LOL I was thinking the same thing and then I saw your comment 0u0

  • Does this program have pre-made characters and clip art to use?

  • @ExorcistAnime Not really- its mostly an art creation program.

  • hey do you think you do a video solely for toning in the near future? but for total begginers?

one if my questions wa how exactly did you "paint" the tone in his hair?

  • Would you recommend this program to a manga starter? Like I new to anime, but can draw good but will i get better eye for detail and drawing of this magnitude?

  • just fyi, its not much of a tutorial if you just do it and dont explain how

  • LOL, "SPICE" it out! nice^^

  • @celestermoon It is not a tutorial in any sense- as the description clearly says: its a quick tour and then a demonstration of the tools available in Manga Studio.

  • this is going to sound stupid, but how do you zoom in?

  • did you use a tablet???

  • @citara1986 Yes, a Wacom Graphire 4. :)

  • draw a happy tree

  • I'm not quite sure I got the 'toning' part. D: How did you get the different shades to appear?

  • I really like your style and great vid, thanks.

  • that song is Len Kagamine's! am I right?

  • what pencil or brush did you use for this example? and how did you get your lines to be so smooth? i tried with mines and they are like... bleh. plz help :(

  • is this squall from final fantasy 8

  • @sjok101 Nah, its an original character from an old work of mine (Skin Deep).

  • You are awesome at Manga! Good job! I don't think I could ever draw manga like that. O.o

  • can u tell me what tone u used 4 the hair im kinda new to this and it's hard to notice from my laptop

  • Very good!! Thank you ;3

  • Really great work - Love it!

I'm very new to drawing this kind of style and have only just purchased Manga Studio Ex4, but I know how to use Maya quite well as I used to use it a lot to make video games. Trying to do a video that looks 'cartoony' rather than 3d using Maya along with MangaStudio - this is what I've got so far, but it's gonna take ages!

  • good tutorial,awesome draws there ^^

hey let me know:is there THAT difference between a tablet and a common mouse???

    O_O

  • @TheMrLipschutz Yes, definitely. Its like comparing drawing with a pencil (tablet) and small rock (mouse).

  • @Fullmetalomi hahaha thanx i wont forget that ;D

  • Comment removed

  • i just started using MS and when i try the pen and pencil tool on the layer that you can make into a single colour, there seems to be a dotty pattern overlaying it

do i need to change some settings?

  • @vivelda I don't believe I can diagnose anything without a screencap of both your settings and the actual problem.

  • @Fullmetalomi hmm well the problem is i just got manga studio so i'm not very familiar with the stuff.. for what settings do you want to see?

  • Wow! So many pretty lines!!!!! I always find inking on Manga Studio so time consuming compared to traditional inking....
